So, with a milestone birthday coming up, and having killed my first real tube amp the previous day (sometime I'll tell the story of the exploding Princeton... ANYWAY...) I decided that I would get myself a present, and yesterday one of these followed me home: This is a Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, and it is GREAT!!! It sounds incredible. Just plugging my Strat straight into it, half an hour flies by in seconds. I am mostly a clean player (and my neighbors prefer it that way) and this thing has the most beautiful cleans. If you haven't tried the silver face amps that Fender is putting out these days, definitely check them out. These are not direct reissues, if you want exactly what the blackface amps were like back in the 60s, they do still make those with the same circuits and speakers and such. The Customs that are in the silverface cabinets are meant to be updated a bit from the old designs. On this amp (vs the normal Deluxe Reverb), the reverb and tremolo are available to both channels of the amp. It still has the Vibrato channel (now called "Vintage") with the classic sound, but the Normal channel is gone and replaced by a channel called "Custom", which has the 'Bassman tone stack'. I have never played a real Bassman, but I actually like the Custom channel even more than the Vintage one! It's similar but fatter and fuller sounding. These amps also break up a little earlier than the blackface reissues do. I almost got the Princeton version of this amp (it's 12 watts instead of 22), it sounded really, really great - but the cleans on the Deluxe were so enthralling that I just wanted to play it until the store closed 😎 Go ahead, leave me in here with it guys, I'll lock up when I'm done... or see you in the morning maybe So if you're looking for a great Fender amp that is a step up from your starter amp like I was, check these out, they're awesome!3 points

Important Medical Public Service Announcement for Guitarists. If, after reviewing this test, you have symptoms do not consult your physician or healthcare provider. I suggest you immediately go to Chicago Music Exchange, your local guitar store, or online at Sweetwater😉😅 ps. I probably don't need to say this, but.......approaching 1700 members from around the world we have many languages and cultures. In case of a language barrier, this is not real. This is a joke. This is absolute bunk.3 points

Hey, I'm looking for a combo amp that I can run my electric guitar & electric bass through. I've tried the Peavey Vypyr VIP 1-3 models and all have been major disappointments. The one I bought & returned has a high pitch whine & static sound whenever the master volume is turned on. The display models in a local music store all presented with the same issues. I think it's no coincidence that that many models indicate some faulty problems straight from the factory. The reason I'm looking to shoot two birds with one stone is to clean up clutter with my current amps and get down to a much simpler setup. Additionally my current amps Ampeg Ba-108 has a non-working aux input (I use this feature heavily) while my Kustom KG1 lacks sufficient tone controls. I'm wondering if I should just get a decent 12" bass combo amp and run an electric guitar through it? Or maybe a keyboard amp since it should cover a broader range of frequencies?1 point

Anyone have the Looper Pedal songbook? I see it has 50 song hits arranged for guitar. $11.55 on Amazon.1 point

Thanks!! Funny enough, I JUST got a PRS SE Custom 24 Zebrawood, and was trying it through all the channels the other night. Clean channel with that guitar is very jazzy. I was LOVING it. The 1st Gain stage is very Allman Brothersish with the HB, and got it screaming on 2nd Gain Stage. Dialed back a bit on the volume pot and was getting that nice distorted Black Magic Woman tone. So far, this amp is really hitting it out of the park for me.1 point

Nice playing and great tones too! Ever play humbuckers through it? I tried one at a shop, admittedly just for a few minutes, but it didn't seem to like them as well, it got pretty dark. Are you able to wring all the tones you want from it? Thanks for posting!1 point

Bass amps and keyboard amps share much in common. Guitar amps, and particularly guitar speakers, have quite different characteristics as they colour the guitar's sound. The all in one solution would be to have an effects unit such as a Kemper or Helix LT (or much cheaper) which has amp and cab modelling. These work best with a FRFR (full range, flat response) PA speaker, and you would choose a bass amp and cab or a guitar amp and cab within the software to get the desired sound.1 point

Actually, Sandy, our friend John has written a book, a novel as I recall. I tried to find a link to it but failed. John must have posted about it over at the old forum. Hopefully he will get back to us here and post information on it again.1 point

I have just looked at it on Amazon UK. There is also a blues looper book. Now blues would be easy work with a looper!😎1 point

That is interesting, I have just bought a pedal with a looper. Presumably all the songs in the book contain repeating chord progressions. Interesting idea.🤔1 point

RIP King of the Surf Guitar. **** Dales dies at 83. How many of us loved that " twangy" Strat sound of the 60's? I did. " CBS Los Angeles points out that Dale had never let age slow him down — he was on the bill for a show May 31 in Agoura Hills, California, and July 14 in San Juan Capistrano. "1 point

A really interesting tribute article in Premier Magazine. So much I didn't know about him. He was of Lebanese descent and " Dale was taught by a musical uncle to play the tarabaki (aka goblet drum) and oud (a Lebanese and Middle Eastern stringed instrument similar to a fretless mandolin). He would later say that the rhythmic tarabaki technique influenced all of his playing since"1 point

As I lament on the passing of Mr. Dale, I think of other players who have predeceased him and think of the sound. These artists have had distinct sounds attributed to them. In this case I will never forget the "Surf Sound" from this amazing guitarist. Henk1 point

@matonanjin Thank you. I was going to start the blues course but instead i'm trying to learn chicken picking, pedal steel licks, etc. However i play a lot of blues, find fairly easy to pick up and the other is pretty challenging. what can i say, im a sucker for a challenge. lol Danny1 point
