Theme:  What Are You Working On?

Description:  Let us hear what you are working on, a new song, a new technique, a new style whatever you are working on.  It doesn't have to be perfect, we don't expect something you are working on to be completely polished.

Deadline: 11:59 PM PST  November 30, 2018

1. @Texaspackerfan  - "Drowns the Wiskey"

2. @Wim VD1 - "Hide Away"
3. @IanD -  "Don't Let Them Break You"
4.  @Eracer_Team-DougH "Day Tripper"
5. @NeilES335 "A Tune for Judy"

6. @Nutty 1  "Eagle"

------------------< RULES >-------------------------
SUBMITTING: To complete the challenge, record an eligible song and reply to this thread with your your direct-linked or embedded track (Soundcloud's great) before the end of the month.

GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix.

GEAR: All content must be recorded with your home studio equipment. You may use BIAB or loops as long as you play the majority of the song with your real guitar. This is a guitar playing challenge not a sampling/recording challenge so keep that in mind.

TIME: A recording made at any time before the entry deadline counts, but do not enter a recording in more than one challenge.

ONE ENTRY per person or collaboration. But, I doubt anybody will complain if you want to share another on-theme track too.

NEXT THEME: The person to choose next month's theme will be chosen randomly from those who complete this challenge.
-----------------------------------------------------

Have fun, try something new, and give us something to listen to!

Believe me @Eracer_Team-DougH you are not the only one who has said that to me  over the years.   I am sure there are a lot of members who listen to some of the really great professional level players play a song and think, "Wow, I can't do that so I don't even want to try."

The challenge is supposed to be just that a challenge no matter what level you play.

I have heard  many people say (and said myself more than once) that they have learned more from participating in the Monthly Recording Challenge than anything else they have done on their guitar learning journey.

So for everyone sitting on the sidelines thinking "I don't think I am good enough or have enough confidence  to record and share a song."  I hope this month will encourage you to just try it.  I promise everyone that listens will be very supportive.

@Wim VD1

Thank you Wim, nice to hear from you as well.

We dissolved the band and had to cancel a gig, it was very disappointing.  But I found a new singer and  rythm  player that has some original songs and I'm going to try to get some recordings down and see what we can do.

While working on the Blues Course, I am rediscovering the music of the old blues masters. Freddie King is definitely one of my favorites.

This is my version of Hide Away. I tried to stay close to his style, so I got rid of the pick and played with index finger and thumb.

Thanks for listening,

Wim.

Thanks, Danny.

I would expect some SRV fans in Texas, who want to hear the blues.

Pride and Joy is on my list of next challenges ?.

Take care, and good luck with your new band.

@Texaspackerfan that sounds really smooth and professional. Is that you singing?

If you need any help with recording, then post specific questions on things you'd like advice on and I'm sure you'll get loads of suggestions.

@IanD@Nutty 1

Thank you for ya'lls kind words. I think the mixing is harder than the actual playing, lol!

I was singing backup vocals. The one singing was my old band member, he has since  moved away.

Well done Danny and Wim. You guys are really talented and I love listening to your stuff. Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about the band challenges Danny. Seems to be a common thing but it is always inspiring to find new connections and reenergize the music. Best wishes on the new band.

I've been working on Steve's latest course on 'Money Chords' and trying to move away from the default open position simple chord shapes. To apply what I've learned, I'm trying to build a chord progression/song structure incorporating some of the money chords and other slightly more sophisticated chord voicings than usual, such as a Cmaj7.

Here's where I'm up to so far. Draft title for the song is 'Don't Let Them Break You' and you'll hear me humming the start of a melody at the beginning.

@Texaspackerfan This is really good! You really are a good old boy in the best possible way.

@Wim VD1 Finger pickin' good mash up.

@IanD Nice start Ian. I would add some compression to bring up the soft parts.

Hi Randy,

I was surprised to find out that one of the main riffs from ELP "Peter Gunn Theme" comes straight out of "Hide away". So Freddie King did not only  inspire Eric Clapton and SRV, but many more.

Wim.
