Well, seeing as this is "What are you working on month"  and no-one minds something a little rough around the edges, here's my humble submission (my first on this forum I believe).

This short jazz fingerstyle tune is something I wrote a while back (still a work in progress... Ive since lengthened it ); played unplugged on my Godin archtop. (1 take recorded on my cellphone so I apologize for the low quality)

Thanks for listening.

you're on the board @NeilES335 .. that's one small step for .. guitar-kind..

gazing into my crystal ball I see a new mixer and mic on the horizon..

(actually I should get a new one as well.. but I hardly ever use my DAW and mixer as it is)

yeah I know hard to post with such other 'polished' sources of music,,,

hopefully my "chainsaw" approach will help others post their recordings as well.

Here is my training this month. I have attempted to do a cover version of "Eagle" by ABBA. It is pretty bad but I believe that I have learnt a lot by trying to do it!?

I tried to sing it but my singing was absolutely dreadful ?so I have done the melody using an acoustic guitar through a GarageBand amp. It is heaps better than my singing but it is still not all that good. I am wondering if I made a mistake in the chord progression.

@Eracer_Team-DougH,

It's good to see you posting your work in progress and I hope many will follow your example!

 If I may give some feedback on your work: you are playing the right notes, and now the next step is to focus more on the right timing.

Well done,

Wim.

Hi Neil,

I can't play m4a formats on my iPhone or iPad. I'll try on a Windows PC tomorrow.

@Nutty 1

Hi Mandy,

I enjoyed your cover a lot. The tone is great. What Garageband amp and effects did you use?

If I may, I would also advise to you to focus on the right timing more , now that you have the notes and the tone right.

Great piece of work.

Wim.

Well done @Eracer_Team-DougH, I enjoyed listening a lot. I hope you'll post up recordings of your progress more often, I'm sure it will help you and I'm sure we'd all love to hear it.

Thank you for your kind comments @Wim VD1, yes I will work more on my timing, it is dreadful!

For the lead guitar I used "Surfing' in Stereo" amp with "Guitar Sweetener" EQ

and "Surfing' in Stereo" with "Clean up guitar" EQ for one rhythm channel and "Brit and Clean" amp with "Classic Guitar Improve" EQ for the other rhythm track.

The Bass guitar was "Modern Stack" amp with "E-Bass EQ"EQ

@NeilES335,

That are some beautiful jazzy chords that you are playing, Neil. I also like the combination of bass notes and chords. Makes me think of bossa nova.

Thanks for sharing,

Wim.

Thanks @Wim VD1 Wim; I was actually thinking Bossa Nova when I played that ? One of my guitar heros is Joe Pass, who often played a bass line with his chord melody (which I tried to throwi n a line or two as well) so I sort of had that in mind too.

Basically (as I read it) it's a 1 - 2 (with passing tones)  - 5 in Gmaj.

 Solo jazz guitar is real art... just you and your guitar and your expression.

I plan to record that again in a more professional amplified manner (like your's I hope) in the near future. This was just a shortened version.

In case you're wondering,some of the chords are (not necessarily in order)

Gmaj7, Bm7,Bbm7Am7, D13, G9  Cmaj7,  Gm7  Am7 Cmaj7/B , Bbmaj7, Amaj7

Neil, Congratulations on posting your first recording! That is a really nice piece, with a very sophisticated sound. All of the chords rang out very cleanly, well played!

@Eracer_Team-DougH Well done! I have been playing the main riff and the rhythm part for a while now, but you are ahead of me with the lead.

@NeilES335 Nice! It has a sweet gentle sound to it. I would recommend some compression to bring up the soft parts.

@Nutty 1 Good one! I haven't heard this song before. Now all you need is the multi-part harmonies.

@Randy120 Thanks for the suggestion Randy... this recording was just a cell phone on my lap, so when my recording gear arrives and I figure out the DAW I'll record it again with compression as you suggested.

Thank you Ian, I am really trying to get my mixes less muddy and trying to produce the desired sound whilst delving a lot deeper into GarageBand.

Thank you Randy. There were some guitar harmonies in the sheet music, you are right, I should have a go at adding them in.
