Theme:  Precious Metals and Materials

Description:   Precious metals and minerals? Anything about gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, rubies etc?

Deadline: 11:59 PM PST  October 31, 2018

1.  @WATSON43 - "Fields of Gold"

2. @Wim VD1 - "Celestine"
3. @Randy120 Who'll Stop The Rain

------------------< RULES >-------------------------
SUBMITTING: To complete the challenge, record an eligible song and reply to this thread with your your direct-linked or embedded track (Soundcloud's great) before the end of the month.

GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix.

GEAR: All content must be recorded with your home studio equipment. You may use BIAB or loops as long as you play the majority of the song with your real guitar. This is a guitar playing challenge not a sampling/recording challenge so keep that in mind.

TIME: A recording made at any time before the entry deadline counts, but do not enter a recording in more than one challenge.

ONE ENTRY per person or collaboration. But, I doubt anybody will complain if you want to share another on-theme track too.

NEXT THEME: The person to choose next month's theme will be chosen randomly from those who complete this challenge.
-----------------------------------------------------

Have fun, try something new, and give us something to listen to!

Here's my version of a Sting song in the style of Eva Cassidy.  Sorry about the length -- I toyed with the idea of dropping a verse, but ultimately decided not to.

Wow Kevin @WATSON43, what a wonderful recording. It sounds really beautiful, I couldn't play it just once. I love the harmonies and the fact that the vocal is somehow full, yet very gentle. Superb job!

Fantastic Kevin, great song and a smooth performance. I've always been a fan of Eva Cassidy.

Nicely done Kevin. No need to shorten the song. Well played, nice harmonies, intimate recording makes it like being in the same room.

This month I have been working on some sessions of the L&M Blues Guitar and Blues Licks from Justinguitar. So my entry is not really an existing song but just a blues in Gm with some improvisation. I was looking for an appropriate name, and found out that Celestine is a sky blue mineral.

I am making my first (baby) steps in improvisation, and any comment on my trial is appreciated.

Thanks for listening,

Wim.

Very well done as usual Wim! You're hitting all the chord tones and changes right on. Early on it did sound a bit scale - like but later more melodic. Your slides and bends to pitch are very good. Im not nearly there, but Ive heard suggested a good soloing idea is to pick a central theme like a 3 or 4 note phrase, and work a melody around that. (hope that helps)?.

Well done @Wim VD1 as Neil says, you’re  hitting all the right notes at the right time and your legato playing is excellent. A theme and a little less playing is the next step. Thinking about call and response while you play can help focus on phrasing. ???????????

@Wim VD1 Well done. I'm sure it'll just be a case of practice now; play more of these and the melodic themes and the connectivity will start to flow with ease.

Great playing Randy. We played the CCR version. I hope one day to contribute a song, but for now I can only record on an iPhone in front of the Loudbox.

Thanks for your useful feedback,  @UncleHammy, @NeilES335, @mark_h and @IanD.

I guess I wanted to put too many of my newly learned licks into this improvisation ?

By learning the blues language and going back to the basics, I now really appreciate and enjoy the pentatonic and blues scale.

Wim.

You're very welcome @Wim VD1 you deserve plenty of praise... I admire your effort.

Further to my comments, I think it was George Benson who I heard say something like; " It's more about what you don't play ... "   BB King was  a master of this too.. making beautiful melodies out of only 3 or 4 notes.
