This month's theme comes to us from @UncleHammy The last couple of months have been a bit light on participation so I hope this month will gin up some interest.

Theme:  Free For All

Description:  Any song, any genre, any style, any lyrics, any thing goes.  The only rule is you have to play at least one track of the song on guitar.

Deadline: 11:59 PM PST  August 31, 2018

1.  @WATSON43 "Homeward Bound"

2. @Randy120 - Hallelujah

3.  @Nutty1 - "The Piece That Doesn't Fit"

------------------< RULES >-------------------------
SUBMITTING: To complete the challenge, record an eligible song and reply to this thread with your your direct-linked or embedded track (Soundcloud's great) before the end of the month.

GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix.

GEAR: All content must be recorded with your home studio equipment. You may use BIAB or loops as long as you play the majority of the song with your real guitar. This is a guitar playing challenge not a sampling/recording challenge so keep that in mind.

TIME: A recording made at any time before the entry deadline counts, but do not enter a recording in more than one challenge.

ONE ENTRY per person or collaboration. But, I doubt anybody will complain if you want to share another on-theme track too.

NEXT THEME: The person to choose next month's theme will be chosen randomly from those who complete this challenge.
-----------------------------------------------------

Have fun, try something new, and give us something to listen to!

I thought I'd try something different this month. Many years ago I recorded the guitar and lead vocal for this song on cassette tape. Recently I was able to convert the analog recording to digital, so I imported it to my DAW (Studio One) and added harmonies. Since the original was on tape there's a little bit of background hum, but I don't think it hurts things too much.

Thanks for listening.

This is my first week of playing in a month after fracturing my ring finger on my fretting hand. Guitar is my physical therapy.

I am playing my Taylor Nylon string through my new Boss Chorus Ensemble CE-5, and Flashback Delay pedals recorded direct to the audio interface.

@WATSON43 Well done, you really did justice to this fabulous song (which was allegedly written at Widnes railway station, about 15 miles from where I live). The harmonies were sublime, the guitar was great and the whole thing just worked.

Bravo!

Ian

Well done Randy. To be honest, it's just great to hear you back playing again. I did miss your vocal though, that's not broken too is it ?.

No the voice isn't broken, but I can't play that song and sing it too with all the guitar playing. ?

I appreciate the kind words from everyone regarding my cover of “Homeward Bound”.

@Randy120, what a beautiful rendition. You really nailed it. Best of luck on your physical therapy.

@Nutty1 contacted me via direct message to let me know she was having problems getting her song to post and asked me to post it for her.

Here it is "The Piece That Doesn't Fit"

Hey everyone, I am sorry that I could not post my song myself (thank you to UncleHammy for doing it for me) because I had a technical problem where I could not reply to threads or see the Chatbox. With Steve K's help I am up and running again with a new user account so I am no longer Nutty1.

Thank you @UncleHammy, @Oldjock and @Randy120 for your kind comments. I am glad that you like the harmonica, it is an instrument that I have just started learning and I am really enjoying it. I realise that the mix that I first did of this song was pretty terrible, in fact i find it quite uncomfortable to listen to ?so I have done another where I softened the vocals and reduced the volume a bit. Sorry about that guys, it is testimony to the theory that if you work on something for too long it starts sounding good when it is not.?

I hope that this one is better! By the way it is an original, based on a blues in A (because I can still play that on guitar!).

I am still having a problem with my hands, my fingers are still difficult to bend and the joint locking is still present but not so violent or as frequent now. I am continuing with the physiotherapy and occasional use of a topical anti-inflammatory. Hence my learning harmonica now.

@Nutty 2 Learning to mix is a whole new skill set. The remix sounds good. Hopefully your hands will loosen up.

Wow, amazing recordings, all. Kevin, your rendition of one of my all time favorites may be one of the best covers I have ever heard of Homeward Bound. Simply awesome instrumentally and fantastic vocals. Very professional sounding. You need to be out performing on the road.?

Randy, excellent guitar playing on  a very challenging instrumental piece. Again, one of my favorite songs that I wish I could play as well as you. Very well done.

Mandy, love your originals, and this is a cool blues number. Nice to hear you are on the mend and now you have added another instrument to your arsenal. Sweet!
