I know I'm jumping around a bit in Song Hits after ignoring Song Hits add-on course for years.

I guess all my chord work for church the past 4 years is making the chords (and barres) not too bad for these songs. (S7 Day Tripper & S8 Pretty Woman)

were I really fall down is the single note riff's that make these songs 'iconic'..

I've been practicing Pretty Woman a few weeks now and did a 'car practice' recording which I sent to my sister for a listen.. getting better but not gig or record worthy.. maybe by summer.

just tried Song Hits Day Tripper Session  7.. barre chord chorus is the 'easiest' part of the song..

the speed of the riff's .. work in progress..

Keep after it Doug.......I played Pretty Woman for a month before the two riffs fell into the muscle memory mode and it just started working!

I haven't tried those yet!

But I really do need to get back to the Song Hits! Those sound like a fun challenge!

Keep at it! You'll get it! :)

Hey Doug, I am currently working on Day Tripper.  Yes, that riff is iconic and definitely a memory of my youth.  I'm not sure I agree that the riff is harder than the barre chords.  I struggle with, and I'm still struggling after months of working it, going from the riff to the barre chords and keeping in time.

Way back when one of the monthly challenges had a topic that was appropriate for Day Tripper and I told UncleHammy I might actually post a contribution.  I still haven't got it finished up.:$  But I bought a backing track for this and am trying to learn the lead guitar part as well.  Off to work on this some more in a few minutes!

I think Chattachoochee is a hard song to play at full speed quick single notes.

These two songs.. scary part.. I'm starting to remember them without looking at any music. Which is rare for me.

Guess that's what makes each of us play slightly different is how our fingers listen to our brains.

Just need my picking hand not to select wrong string at speed on the riff(s)

Coming out of the chords say E7 on Pretty Woman  back to the riff.

From full strumming on E7. (End of the first verse) Then strumming hand pinky grabs high E as an anchor to try accuratly pick the riff.. oops missed strings again...

Dang! Just listened to Pretty Woman mp3 by Roy O. There is a number of repeats Steve didn't give us. Plus a 3rd verse and 3rd bridge...

Guess I need to edit his off for full song...

ok.. here is a quick recording in my car at lunch.. battery amp on the foot-well floor, a $50 Academy Strat clone and a phone recording it all from on top of the dash.

this is the bridge of Pretty Woman in all barre chords.

I hate fingering Dm in open.. I jump to Dm 5th fret over open chords

jammed in the front seat of the car..

(embarrassment time... )

Nice recording Doug.  Some very nice strumming.  And especially cool you could do that in your car.  I am doubly impressed!

Jay.. I started a few years a go in the van while the wife is shopping and ramped it up 3yrs a go when I first started with the choir I'm in.

To see my car rig. In the first section of the forum there's a post called test post. I posted pictures of my car rig.

I'm not going to post my single note melody and singing recording.

That's rough singing and playing (Work in progress)

Although I've had a thought I should email my daughter's vocal teacher for vocal lessons ...

well I've devoted my summer lunch practice to Day Tripper (Aug/Sept/Oct lunches about 20min run time ).. I've added the Solo in B.. and I play along with the Beatles as my backing track.

(sorry Steve moved on from your video)

you think I would have nailed this by now.. still not record worthy, better than it was.. but still not solid enough. grrr

One day it will suddenly fall in place for you Doug..  Suggestion? Practice the major scale in that key first before playing the song. Your fingers and ears will tell you where to go next.

I have the pattern.. (which is the E scale) and that's why I was able to add the Solo that's in B.

it's just the speed of the riff that I trip up on; so they don't sound like muted staccato notes.

I learned daytripper today, now I gonna practise the song a lot. Some parts like the riffs are already In my musclememory. For me this is the coolest song i have learnd so far! The songbook is getting very interesting... the triplets in heartbreak hotel, the single note mixed with strums in silver bells( very good accurate picking exercise). That 6notes in 4beats in crazy (took me Some time to get the ‘feel’ for it) and now the cool riffs followed by barree chords in daytripper and that playing in the second position... this way I learn lots of stuff that aren’t in the course at my stage in very fun way! This book rocks ?. The only thing i miss is backing tracks like Steve did for the songs in the learn&master course. This would be awesome. Greetings from Belgium
