  1. I alway's tought that I was a big Martin Fan but recently I played a Taylor 314 in my local shop and that played so smooth... I only played it without a pick but everything just felt right... I was able to compare it to a Martin 000 15 because they had both. Maybe I liked the sound of the Martin a little bit more but I was surprised that I liked playing on the Taylor more. So the Taylor came out as the winner for fingerpicking. Another brand that I really like and that is not that expensive is the seagull... What's your favorite Brand and why?
  2. Hey Triple o, I liked that movie a lot! Did you learn that song? Is it difficult with just the sheet music and the performance but nobody who really teach it? I Think I will give it a try! Such a nice song 🤩
  3. Wow Wim, nice done!!! if you like Fingerpicking in Merle Travis Style or just delta blues fingerpicking, I would strongly recommend Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop! There are so many courses to follow there: Blues Fingerpicking, Bottleneck... I Started some courses 2 years before I even heard of Learn and master. Until today I follow courses there. Great stuff!!!
  4. Hey Mike, Thanks a lot for the reply. I Think I have found a good routine now and I improve a lot. Like I said before, I work with 2 routines. 1 for every week (I try to practice that routine 4 days a week), and 1 routine that I must finish within a month and where I practice things that I struggled with in the past or that I still want to improve. (I try to work on that list for 2 days in a week) The 7th day is pure for fun... Every course that I follow and every exercise from the beginning of my guitar journey until now has his own code. For example A14B: Learn and master guitar is course A, The session is 14 and the exercise is B. Or Q1C: a bottleneck guitar course that I follow is Q, the session is 1 and the exercise is C. Or G11: G is my repertoire and the song is the 11th song..... That List that I work on at monthly bases is too long to post here but this is my practice routine for this week (2 hours a day is divided into pieces, I never practice more then 30 minutes in 1 take): Oktober 2020/3 Practice Routine: ‘Four Days A week’ (2h) A13E: Soloing In Different Keys Using The Pentatonic Forms With The Blues Notes (Youtube) (10min) ___/___/___/___ A14A: Sliding Riffs On The 5th And The 6th String (Lesson Book) (5min) ___/___/___/___ A14B: Practice The Major Scale Bending Exercise (Lesson Book) (2min) ___/___/___/___ A14I: Jazz Octaves (Lesson Book) (5min) ___/___/___/___ A14J The Funky Mute (Lesson Book) (3min) ___/___/___/___ A14K: Sliding Exercises: Between Two Notes Of The Same Pitch (Bonus Resource) (2min) ___/___/___/___ A14L: Sliding Exercises: Minor 7th Arpeggio (Bonus Resource) (4min) ___/___/___/___ A14M: Sliding Exercises: With Two Notes (Bonus Resource) (1min) ___/___/___/___ A14N: Sliding Exercises: 50’s Riff (Bonus Resource) (2min) ___/___/___/___ A14O: Cmaj7 Arpeggio Ascending With Hammer-Ons & Descending With Pull-Offs (Bonus Resource) (4min) ___/___/___/___ A14P: Dm7 Arpeggio Ascending With Hammer-Ons & Descending With Pull-Offs (Bonus Resource) (4min) ___/___/___/___ C2: Speed and Agility Workout 2 Intermediate (20min) ___/___/___/___ E1A: Choose 5 1Minute Changes1 7: Cm11 - E2 (barre5 - open) (Practice Map) (1min) __-__/__-__/__-__/__-__ E1B: Choose 5 1Minute Changes2 2: G - D/F# (open - open) (Practice Map) (1min) __-__/__-__/__-__/__-__ E1C: Choose 5 1Minute Changes3 3: E7 - Gsus (open - barre6) (Practice Map) (1min) __-__/__-__/__-__/__-__ E1D: Choose 5 1Minute Changes4 6: F2 - C2 (barre4 - open) (Practice Map) (1min) __-__/__-__/__-__/__-__ E1E: Choose 5 1Minute Changes5 5: Bm11 - Bmaj7 (open - barre5) (Practice Map) (1min) __-__/__-__/__-__/__-__ E7: Open Major 7th Chords & Moveable Major 7th Chords (2min) ___/___/___/___ F7: Functional Ear Trainer (Alain Benbassat Method) (5min) ___/___/___/___ G6: Wonderfull Tonight (Six String Fingerpicking) FS (3min) ___/___/___/___ G9: Sound Of Silence (Six String Fingerpicking) FS (3min) ___/___/___/___ G10: East Virginia Blues (Flatpicking Guitar Country Style) FP (3min) ___/___/___/___ G11: Shady grove (Flatpicking Guitar Country Style) FP (3min) ___/___/___/___ G13: Ain’t No Sunshine (Six String Fingerpicking) FS (5min) ___/___/___/___ G14: Is There Anybody Out There (Six String Fingerpicking) FS (5min) ___/___/___/___ Gx3: Hey Hey My My (Youtube) FP (3min) ___/___/___/___ O3A: Blues Lick 1 from Pattern 1 (1min) ___/___/___/___ O3B: Blues Lick 2 from Pattern 1 (1min) ___/___/___/___ O3C: Blues Lick 3 from Pattern 1 (1min) ___/___/___/___ O3D: Blues Lick 4 from Pattern 1 (1min) ___/___/___/___ O3E: Blues Lick 5 from Pattern 1 (1min) ___/___/___/___ Q1C: Single String Exercises 5-8 With Vibrato— Open D (5min) ___/___/___/___ R3: Ten Fingerpicking Exercises 1-2 (11min) ___/___/___/___ Extra: __________________________________________________________________ ___/___/___/___/___/___/___ Extra: __________________________________________________________________ ___/___/___/___/___/___/___ Extra: __________________________________________________________________ ___/___/___/___/___/___/___
  5. Hey everybody, I will start session 14 today. I am very happy that I got there because 5 months ago I was done with guitar playing. It all became too much for me. I will try to explain why: I found myself at the stage where it was simply impossible to practice everything everyday. Chords, songs, technique, sight reading, scales, ear practice, new stuff, maintain older stuff... My daily practice became +- 3 hours and that was not possible. So I begun skipping exercises, did not find a good routine and I constantly had the feeling that I didn't practice enough. The fun was gone and it became a huge task to pick up my guitar... How did you people overcome this problem? I have a core routine now that can change every week and that I practice everyday. This is mostly the new stuff that I learn. This routine is +-90 min. When I have time left I work on my second routine. This is a list of all the stuff that I have learned and want to maintain but are not possible to practice everyday (older songs, older worksheets, some sight reading exercises from the first lessons, some barre chords practice, some fingerpicking exercises etc...) For completing this list I give myself a week. So now I have my core training that I do everyday and all my other exercises that I do once a week... Now I have the feeling that I have a solid practice routine but I was close to quitting the Guitar. I think for many people it will be a problem to organize there practice routine when they come this far so all tips are welcome :) Up to session 14, greetings from Belgium!!!
  6. Hey Amy, thanks... i will continue playing like this
  7. I know the notes on the fretboard very good but i don’t know or my theory knowledge is sufficient... i just followed the first lesson and i see that he goes fast, For example: the bluesform in different keys is easy but in the part of the licks out of the chord form he does not explain what he is doing with his picking hand. So doing what he does is difficult...
  8. Hello everyone, i am following the main course and i am in session 13. Is this a good starting point to begin the blues course or is this to early and is it better to finish the main course first? Grtz
  9. Tomorrow I 'm gonna start session 3. yehaaa It took me several months to get the exercises up to speed, especially the jazz chords but I am finally there! I enjoy the challenges and I wonder if it will take that long again to finish the next session... So goodbye session 2 and session 3... here I come!!! greetings from Belgium
  10. Hi Maria, i have a question for you. The 00-15 is a guitar that i really want for some years now. One day it will be mine when my budget allows me to . You have yours for 4 months now so you are a little experienced with that instrument. How is the playability? And would you recommend it for fingerstyle? Is it as good as i read in many reviews? Greetings from Belgium
  11. Thanks for the answer, i am happy that there are other people playing this way. Like i said, it just feels so much more comfortable. 🙂
  12. If i sit low in my couch then a foot rest isnt necessary but if i sit on a chair then i use the foot rest for my left foot. And yes i can strum very comfortably that way. I hope too that steve see this post and give me an answer 🙂
  13. So you wouldnt dissuade this way of playing?
  14. i have this question: When I started playing the guitar I got never used to it when the guitar was on my right leg. It was like I couldn't hold it in the same position. It always felt better when it was between my two legs like you see in classical guitar. I hold it almost the same however, the arm is not so high like you see in classical guitar. Now I play like this on acoustic and electric(fingerpicking and flat picking) but I don't see many people play this way. should I continue to play like this or wil it become a disadvantage? For me it feels much more comfortable...
  15. hey, thanks for the reaction but that's not the case :) The 0 stands for open strings so in the example you made there is nothing to fret with the left hand. Most of the exercises and the song house of the rising sun are simple: thumb for the bas and finger 1 "th string finger 2 second string and finger 3 first string... but in the song cannon in D Is that not the case. Steve use his thumb all over the place :)
  16. the tab shows me how to play with the left hand but it don't show the left hand fingering. Sometimes steve plays the second or third string with his thumb, sometimes with his index finger... that's where my problem is. it is hard to follow his picking hand. i wanna practice the song correct but i have to know what to do with my picking hand
  17. Hello, i have a question about canon in D. The fingering for the left hand is very well explained and i have no problem with that but i find it difficult to follow what Steve is doing with his right hand. Is it the intention that i do the exact same fingering with the picking hand or is it the intention to find out what works best for me with those fingers? grtz
  18. Starting session 10 today... All i did was playing finger style (alternating bass deltablues...) before i started this learn and master course so i don't expect a lot of troubles in this session. I started the Learn and Master Fingerstyle course a few weeks ago and i am ready to move on to session 2 in that course. I don't know about you folks but i don't really like the plectrum... Just for improvisation stuff maybe and soloing but i play with it because i wanna follow the L&M course and a I think that every guitar player should have a good basic with the plectrum too. What i reaaaaly like is plucking the strings When i finish the L&M course i will follow the blues course but i think i will always prefer finger style on acoustic.
  19. I learned daytripper today, now I gonna practise the song a lot. Some parts like the riffs are already In my musclememory. For me this is the coolest song i have learnd so far! The songbook is getting very interesting... the triplets in heartbreak hotel, the single note mixed with strums in silver bells( very good accurate picking exercise). That 6notes in 4beats in crazy (took me Some time to get the ‘feel’ for it) and now the cool riffs followed by barree chords in daytripper and that playing in the second position... this way I learn lots of stuff that aren’t in the course at my stage in very fun way! This book rocks ?. The only thing i miss is backing tracks like Steve did for the songs in the learn&master course. This would be awesome. Greetings from Belgium
  20. Hey thanks for the reply. I really like the looks of the 17 serie ‘ black smoke’... but again, it Will be difficult to chose between 000-17, 00-17L and 00-17s. I think the tripple 0 Will be the best for me. From what I heard and read the 17 is a little Brighter than te 15 series but more articulated...but it is still a bluesy sound. I hope I find a store where I can test the 2series. Maybe you are right and its better to put my own rl baggs afterwards and pay a little more for the woods...
  21. Does anyone have played the Martin 00-15e retro? What are your thoughts on that guitar? I sold my blueridge dreadnought because it was to big for me and now I am looking for a new acoustic. The stores nearby dont have that model but when I look at reviews on the internet and the specs of that guitar I think it has everything I wish... I want a good acoustic with electronics for fingerstyle. For The learn and master guitar course I use my electric guitar but I am in stage 7 so the fingerstylestage is nearby ? greetings
  22. I am learning this song for 2 weeks and the most difficult part for me is hitting the right string with my plectrum after a strum... I can play all the songs comfortably untill stage 6. I ended stand by me last week but silver Bells Will take a lot of time to master I think
