"Members Recordings" is a forum where Members are encouraged to post their songs, lessons from Learn and Master Guitar courses, Fretboard Workouts, or Whatever you're working on... an " Open Mic" so to speak. No deadlines, no particular subject.

The idea is to gain confidence, and receive CONSTRUCTIVE encouragement and feedback from other members, so we can all improve!

Just 1 rule... it has to be YOU playing guitar. No YouTube videos (unless it's you) or links to other sites please.

And (need I say it?), let's remember to keep it "family friendly" .

We look forward to hearing from you!

PS; By all means continue to participate in @UncleHammy 's "Monthly Recording Challenge" if you wish!  (please don't double post though)

PPS; Please use a music file service like Soundcloud unless your audio file is reasonably small. With Soundclound everyone can hear all your recording there. (its free)

@NeilES335

This is an excellent idea! This site continues to amaze me.  Great leadership and great members, this is hands down the greatest web site for guitar learning and support.

On my Blues journey, I am working on a cover of Eric Clapton's version of Freddie King's Tore Down.
I added the fills, but decided not to work out the solo yet.
Unfortunately I can't sing. So I ended up recording the vocal melody line as a separate guitar track.

Thanks for listening,

Wim

@Wim VD1  Awesome! So glad you are our 1st "Open Mic" recording! Excellent playing on this recording. And the vocals melody line was really good also.. Impressive collection of songs on SoundCloud Wim.  Keep them coming!  PS I really liked "Celestine" and "Hide Away" too.

Thanks for creating this thread and for your nice words, Neil.

Recording has become a fixed element in my learning routine. It also pushes me to work harder on the quality of my playing. Learning of a song is only complete when the recording sounds good enough to my ears.

And most important: it's a lot of fun. I can only recommend it.

Wim.

Love this song, One of the staples in the Blues genre, sure to show up at any open jam. Nice lead work and accompaniment. A great rendition of this classic.  Thanks for sharing

@Wim VD1 Fantastic! You have developed a great blues feel and tone. The timing and interpretation were both great and leave me wanting more.

Hey everyone,

I don't have the ability to play difficult pieces (yet), so spend quite a lot of time trying to play simple pieces well. This song is fairly simple, but I wanted to work on maintaining an even fingerstyle arpeggio tempo (without a 'nome) whilst maintaining a gentle, but controlled vocal. I usually record at least some of my attempts, because I find the instant feedback really helps me to learn and improve (even/especially if it sounds really bad).

Anyway, I was quite pleased with how this session went. This is one, continuous 'live' take (one of about 6, the others were not so good!) that I simply recorded on a Zoom portable recorder and then I uploaded it into Logic just to add a bit of compression and gain to bring the levels up.

Outstanding Ian. My wife's favorite song!  Nice vocals as always and great timing on the instrumentals. Hope someday you can spring across the wide Atlantic and share your talents in Nashville at some future Guitar Gathering. What a treat that would be for all.

I need to break out the recording mic myself again someday....it's been a long time away from it for me.

Wow Ian,

Playing fingerstyle and singing at the same time, that is a lot to handle!

You gave the song a very personal touch and I like it a lot.

Wim.

@IanDSuper job Ian! Your guitar playing fingerstyle was spot  on  and and as @Wim VD1 says your vocal gave it a very personal touch. Well done. You fellows are setting the bar pretty high for me when I get into recording!    (And btw.. the Zoom recording is pretty good too; better than my cell-phone for sure)

Harry, coincidentally that song was just 'Highly Commended' by the judges in the UK Songwriting Contest. I have to admit that I'm a little cynical about these things (do they stroke your ego so that you enter again next year?), but from googling it does seem to be one of the most well-respected international songwriting competitions out there.

Beautiful song, @IanD. I can only agree with the " Highly Commended" judgement from the songwriter contest. You have developed your own "voice". Very nice.

Wim.

Doug, it's a Mac App called Superstring. Available in the App Store at about 50 USD.

Ian,

That's great news, I think you deserve the recognition. There's a beautiful message in the song that maybe someone needs to hear. I know it really inspired me. I've gone back and listened to it many many times.

Congratulations!

From Freddie King to Stevie Ray Vaughan is a logical step ?.

It is still work in progress, but here is my attempt to play Texas shuffle.

Thanks for listening,

Wim.

Fantastic!! Texas Shuffles are not easy to get down cleanly. Palm muting those open strings is HARD. Well done, sir. Sounded great!
