I lightly sand the neck on every guitar I get to take the shine off. I really don't like glossy necks. The amount of material you need to remove is negligible and won't change the neck shape unless you go mad.

Was last night, and I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the Katana 50. Its the first time I've really cranked it up and it easily kept pace with a live drummer and bass in a medium sized bar room. I'm even more impressed with it now than ever. Well worth checking this amp out if you're in the market for a reasonably priced amp that will cope with just about anything. I had an absolute blast I did get some good natured ribbing about my choice of guitar though ...until they actually tried it. I think I managed to change a couple of opinions. It picked up a couple of battle scars along the way which I think would have bothered me had it been an expensive one. I'm going to try my strat for the next one though

I think it must be the camera angle. None of the saddles are at full travel and the intonation is bang on.

I didn't buy a kit, but I did buy a cheap squire Tele from eBay and totally dismantled it, stripped off the paint and refinished it and put it all back together again. I learned a lot about how guitars are put together from doing that. Good Luck

I do like my Variax's. The last one I had though I couldn't get on with the neck which was a very fat 59 LP profile so I let it go. I've been on the lookout for another for quite a while and just now stumbled across one on eBay, almost new and perfect condition for almost half the price of a new one. I couldn't let that slide so I snagged it. These Variax Standards are essentially a Yamaha Pacifica with upgraded hardware and trem and Variax electronics so I know already I'm going to like the feel of it. Can't wait till it gets here

That guitar will last you from complete beginner to pro level. Very versatile and are used from anything from Country to Blues and Rock. I think it would be a great choice for the L&M course.

What I like/try to do is after learning a new concept, be it chords or a scale etc is to put on a backing track from youtube and actually use it for a while. Not only does this get it under your fingers, its also fun and you can start to enjoy what you're playing. I'm quite guilty of enjoying this part so much that I tend to forget going to learn something else.
