Having seen the Direct TV commercial where the girl is throwing all of the guys stuff out of the second story window, including his guitar, I just have to say poor research was done here.  Who among us would not dive under the guitar so as not to damage our baby???

Good point @rkl312. ?

One thing that I really do not understand is how musicians can bash up their guitars on stage. What is that all about????

I told my wife if she ever did that that I would throw her out the window.

She thought I was joking.

I have also thought about that often.  Like Pete Townshend .  He is such a maestro.   I could never destroy an instrument!  Shock value I guess.

I just watched a documentary about the Who and it showed, of course, him smashing guitars on stage.  To some extent I had forgotten about this.  Were they making so much money it was insignificant to do this?  Do you think he always actually smashed his Strats?  One scene it showed him thrusting the neck of his Strat, like a knife, into the cabinet of his Marshall Stack.

I always thought any guitars and amps that were no longer needed by the musicians in question would have made a very nice amount of money in a charity auction and thereby made lots of people happy! ?

Yeah, I saw that commercial, and winched. When did it become popular for all these gals to become viragos? Remember the song "The Boys Are Back in Town?" Hated it. Lotsa luck

I recall Hendrix poured lighter fluid on his guitar and set it afire as he kneeled before it in homage onstage.  Crazy times indeed.  I do believe a symbolic love/hate relationship can exist between musicians and their instrument during a career.  Kaki King discussed her desire and struggles to separate herself from her guitar at various times in her career, during a live performance.  The listener came away believing it was heartfelt.

I remember reading about one grunge band from the 90s that normally smashed up things at the end of their set, and their tech said they went out for the encore with mexican fenders or squiers that were stocked for this purpose.

I think I would have my ex cooling off in a jail cell. She has got to pay. I of course would have caught the guitar in the first place. But destroying my guitar is too much.

Definitely an "up the ante" moment on the replacement guitar!  Vintage or custom builder with outrageous Brazilian Rosewood with Master-grade tone wood seems like a great place to start looking.   :D

My thoughts exactly - I have owned a few guitars that I wouldn't have bothered to catch :)

Hmmmm.   I can't say that. I think any guitar I own (or owned) I would want to catch.
