So, is anyone out there using an electric amp for an acoustic guitar?   From what I’ve seen online electrics work but may not be as clean as a dedicated acoustic amp.   Opinions?   Suggestions?

I use electric amps on all of my acoustic guitars. Works great and sounds great using a Di box helps with the feed back  . But i dont use it a lot . have no need / three guitar with LR Baggs sound great on all amps  Two guitars with sonic core an arua not so good but the DI fixes it . Just dont play those guitars much . Amp Are fender mustang 20 watts. Fender princton 65 watts plus , Fender vibro champ xd 5 watts , Boss Katana 50 watts. Traynor 45 watts And a Acoustic amp Peavy 20 watt.  all sound great .

The undisputed champ of acoustic amps is the Fishman Loudbox and the Loudbox Mini. They are made to work with acoustic pickup s like the piezzo, and sound much better than an electric guitar amp. If i needed an acoustic amp thats what id buy.Period.

If you wanted something at a lower price range Yamaha do the THR5A, I have one in my practice space, and I like it. It gets pretty good reviews too:

Ditto on the Loudbox. I have a Marshall 50sd that I bought 12 years ago. No comparison and no comparison to any of my electric amps. The state of current technology in my opinion

Thanks for the feedback folks.    Sounds like another excuse to head to the local music stores to play with different amps!

Take a look at the Acoustic Chorus AC-60 made for acoustics with pups. I have a Taylor 712CE and it's a great pairing. Lotsa luck.

I was always somewhat under the impression, based on very unscientific data, that the Fishman amps were the "gold standard" for acoustic amps.

I lo-o-o-ve my Fishman Loudbox Mini, paired with an L R Baggs Anthem pickup in my Guild dreadnought. It has a second channel for a vocal microphone. I'm a chemist, so this is very scientific data, Ron @matonanjin 😉

So....based on the replies it seems Fishman is either the king of acoustic amps - or a lot of Gathering folks own stock in the company!     Kidding aside - I took the time today to go by a couple of music stores here in town and used a couple of their guitars to play on the Fender Acoustasonic 40, a Boss Katana 50 (with the acoustic setting) and the Fishman Loudbox.    I have to agree that the Fishman overall had the most "full" sound and if you are looking to invest in a dedicated acoustic amp it is probably the best choice.    The Boss Katana was pretty close after a little tweaking of the EQ - and offers the flexibility of being able to support electrics.    I'd have to rate the Fender last of the bunch - sounded "thin" to me.     The next step is to take my guitar in with the K&K Pure mini and try them again.   Tough decision - but enjoying the process!

We certainly live in a golden age for acoustic guitar - there are so many choices for acoustic guitars and accessories that it is mind boggling. And great quality can be found in just about every price range.

Good luck with your acoustic amp search - let us know what you find!

Of course, no one would ever question or doubt your methodology, @DianeB😎

I have a Peavey Viper that I use for my acoustics now.

My electrics have graduated to Mesa Engineering and Blackstar amps.

I have used a fender G Dec  they have 3 Acoustic setups and if you use fuse software you can really tweek your settings. As far as feed back use a sound hole cover if posable.

Acoustic amps are superior for acoustic guitar. DI boxes do help.

I have the Fishman Loudbox Mini below. I bought this artist package and it is a great value. The Sennheiser mic goes for around $100 by itself. The sound is rich and you can hook up a mic also.

The Roland AC amps are also very good as stated by @John Wells.
