It's the day after Christmas.  It's time to share what Santa brought you.  When you got up yesterday morning what did you find under the tree.  We are, of course, interested in what guitar or music related items you found.

I will start.  I have had my eye on the Positive Grid Spark 40 amp since it was released.  I know they had their shipping difficulties and alienated a lot of customers.  But the start up problems aside, all the feature reports I heard were rave.  Seemingly such a great practice tool.  Santa actually let me play it a few days before Christmas and all the reports are true.  what a great practice tool and FUN!

  1. Smart Jam
  2. Auto Chords
  3. Unlimited Modelling
  4. USB Audio Interface
  5. Play to any track on your phone or computer
  6. 40 Watts.  This thing is loud!
  7. Light to carry to any gig or jam

So what did you snag for Christmas?

Hi Ron, what a coincidence. Santa brought me a Spark amp as well.

It's time for me to start playing electric again after 3 years of acoustic guitar.

Ron,

I treated myself to an ‘all hog 00’ this year that covers Xmas for the next year or so.  I did get a new coffee mill to improve my online guitar surfing each morning…does that count?  🤣

I hit one of those major milestone birthdays a couple of weeks before Christmas, so I suppose this can be considered a combination Birthday/Christmas gift to myself.     I happened upon a very lightly used PRS Silver Sky SE in my local music store - it still had the hang tags and not a scratch on it.     Since they appear to be constantly on backorder on Sweetwater, I snapped it up (with my wife's encouragement and approval).      When I first met Steve, I asked him what guitar he would recommend for a first electric.   His response was immediate - get a Strat.    Well, several guitars later, I finally took his advice!

Wim, it's a fun little amp and shockingly loud when you need it.  Great sound for its size.  There is a bit of a learning curve.  figuring out how to download and upload tones, etc.  The nice thing aabout it is if you are getting baack to playing you can just plug in and play.  But when you start designing your pedal board you may want to know what each of the amps and pedals represent.  For obvious legal reasons each of the amps and pedals are described as "inspired by". 😉  There are 30 different amps available and I have no idea how many effects pedals.  And they have a video describing each.  But I'm putting together a list of all of them and I'll share it with you when I finish it.  In the mean time there are great tutorials by Spark Amp Tutorials to help you get started.

Bryan,

Of course that counts!  That morning coffee is critical to successful practicing!

Everybody needs a Strat!  I've heard nothing but raves about the Silver Sky.  Enjoy it a long time!

My friend gave me his 70’s Alvarez Yairi DY68 12-string as a gift.  Never had a 12 string.  Sounds great.

A 12 string.  That is something missing from my stable that a person should probably have.  I hope we hear something from you with it.  Enjoy!

@matonanjin it’d be way too loud for my wife, thinks acoustics are loud enough (too loud) . Doesn’t understand you need a certain volume to equal certain tone,

I need a a battery powered amp, that’s loud enough for a large picnic but doesn’t weigh 30lbs like my Traynor TVM50 lead acid battery 10” speaker amp

It's always nice to have one or two :) My partner plays too so we have 17 guitars between us and now two basses. I must admit I do enjoy playing bass now and then for a change.

@Ice9, my granddaughter just announced at our Christmas family gathering that she decided to take guitar lessons.  Well, of course, Papa (me) was all in for that.  I contacted the place where I took some lessons and she had contacted about scheduling.  I paid for a month of weekly lessons.  And loaned her one of my acoustic guitars which she took with.

PSA PBA (papa bragging announcement 😉) My granddaughter is working on her doctorate right now so I don't know where she will find the time.  But I'm sure she will do well with it.

She just stopped a few days ago and returned the guitar.  She announced that she is not going to learn six string but instead she is going to play bass.  And she just bought a bass guitar.  I think she got a mexican made Fender.  I don't know if Fender calls them Squire in the bass line?

But @Ice9 maybe if she has a question she bounce it off you?

Of course, I'd be happy to help if I can though I'm no expert. These are my two basses. The Yamaha long scale and a cheap (but lots of fun) short scale bass. The short scale bass feels very much like a six string in your hands and is (for me) easier to play so I would suggest she tries both to see which she prefers.
