  1. This month's theme comes to us from @WATSON43 Theme: Unplugged Description: Any song of any style played on an acoustic guitar. (If you want to post something with an electric guitar we would love to listen to it, but it will not be considered in picking the next months' theme.) 2. Nice guitar @CapM. Really cool tone. It takes a good ear (or at least a good speaker) to hear the difference between them, but the CS sounds a little poppier to me.
  3. This has been a great month for the Monthly Recording Challenge, we have had submission from 7 members including one first time submission for a total of 9 songs. We have had well over 1000 views on the thread and 80+ comments. I am so glad that everyone chose to participate this month, I think the switch to the new forum had a lot to do with it as everyone has been very excited with the new forum. I hope we can continue to have this level of participation and general interest and I hope that more people will take the opportunity to post whatever they are working on for the rest of us to enjoy. This thread will always be a safe space for everyone to share, enjoy and encourage each other. Thank you all for your support and keep those recordings coming.
  4. Thank you @IanD and @Nutty1 that was a lot of fun playing that song at the Gathering, it was only the 2nd time I had played in front of people. (The first was the year before at the Gathering.) Nervous? Maybe a little but it is a great audience, everyone if very supportive and genuinely happy to see you play no matter your skill level.
  5. Well this isn't the song that I planned to post this month but I am running out of time and when I tried to record that song today it is nowhere near ready. So I decided to post this instead. This was me playing in the student showcase at the 2016 Guitar Gathering. Steve gave me a very long intro including a plug for this thread. I actually start playing about, 4:30. Paul Opitz (@Opie) recorded and posted it. I hope everyone can open the link. The audio isn't great and I made a flub, but I really wanted to get something posted this month. Hope you enjoy it.
  6. Was this a Skiffle band? It certainly looks like it could be. Very cool picture.
  7. Sorry @Randy120 I just realized that I put your stuff on the first page but didn't leave you a comment on your songs. The new amp sounds great. Really nice grooves both of them. Well done and thanks for posting.
  8. Well if we are going to open up the time capsule here is one from 1985 when I was 18 years old. I am the one with the bass in the blue shirt. The others are my brother-in-law John and my ex-sister-in-law Nancy.
  9. Really nice @Tony cash enjoy your new friend.
  10. Yes that is exactly what he said.
  11. "If I make a mistake playing guitar, nobody dies." - Will McFarland at the 2015 Guitar Gathering.
  12. I am not sure how how you classify him (I would guess Chicago Blues) but I like Robert Cray. He is from Tacoma, WA so maybe it is Washington Blues. His bio says this "If you define 'blues' by the rigid categories of structure rather than the flexible language of feeling allusion, Robert Cray... Larry Garner, Joe Louis Walker and James Armstrong are a new and uncategorizable breed, their music blues-like rather than blues, each of them blending ideas and devices from a variety of sources – soul, rock, jazz, gospel – with a sophistication beyond the reach of their forerunners"
  13. Really nice Ron. How does the weight compare to the Gibson 335 or 339's?
  14. I like Jim Dunlop Nylon picks. I use .38 or .46 mm for strumming and .73 mm for picking. Great picks last forever and have a nice grip. They aren't pretty. The lighter the color the lighter the pick. The black picks are the thickest and white is thinnest.
  15. Your guitars have a website?!? Mine don't even know how to use the internet!
  16. Gotta go with classic Delta Blues on this one. Not only for the music itself, but also because if forms that basis for most Classic Rock like Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and countless others.
  17. Nice @sleepingangel it was very soothing and very pretty. Thank you for sharing it with us.
  18. Get them started early!!! I wish I had started playing when I was her age.
  19. Awesome @WATSON43 it is always great to have a new poster. Welcome to the Forum and thanks for posting in the Monthly Recording Challenge thread. I hope you will become a regular. Oh and BTW great job.
  20. Grog my wife would certainly agree with your assessment of my hard headedness...
  21. Great job Ian. Sounds great! I really like the mix. The vocals are crystal clear, nicely done.
  22. Just what I need Dave, more resources that I can't get to. Could you find a website that could give me more practice time? That would be really useful. I am currently working on osmosis, if I keep buying resources surely some of them will be absorbed just from proximity, right???
