  1. Each one hand built in New York City; JOHN MONTELEONE There are very few names that consistently top the list of archtop luthiers and John Monteleone is among them. His instruments are breathtaking and awe-inspiring. John was born in Manhattan in 1947 to a family of craftsmen that traces their roots to Palermo. Monteleone’s father was a skilled artist and sculptor. John also learned woodworking from his father as well as the ability to understand a variety of materials and designs. As did so many of his present-day peers John’s introduction to lutherie was through the repair and restoration of vintage high quality archtops and his early instruments reflected those experiences. Although influenced by the great luthiers of the day, he responded to the need for a more advanced approach to designing the sound, look and feel of his archtops. His designs are at the pinnacle of archtop lutherie. John has introduced many innovations, both acoustic and aesthetic. His work continues to evolve, expanding the boundaries of archtop instrument making. His four seasons archtops instruments were showcased along with those of John D’Angelico and James D’Aquisto as part of the “Legendary Craftsmen from Italy to New York” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Recently, the museum purchased the collection from John.
  2. I found the built in "nome" on the Reaper DAW helpful... Although I seldom use it, and I think I have a pretty good sense of internal timing, it did show me I can be off a bit...Maybe thats what attracts me to jazz "rubato" ... (without time) noun 1. the temporary disregarding of strict tempo to allow an expressive quickening or slackening, usually without altering the overall pace. ) 🙂
  3. Glad to hear your guitar is now playing well. I was wondering... for such a good quality instrument , why such a "defect" would lèave the factory or why you'd have to pay someone to fix something the maker should willingly do for $ nothing.
  4. Congrats Ben... Certainly not your 'average' Gibson. Maybe you could start a subcollection of unusual and/rare Gibson models. How many now is that? 15, 25...50?🎸😉

    Finished home-built

Very unique... looks like you did a great job!
  6. You're very welcome @John Wells (re desk... that being so I must be really sick upstairs😂)
  7. Dear Fellow Members; As many will know, its been my privilege to serve here in the moderator chair since the inception of this Guitar Gathering site in January 2018. Im proud to say Ive helped it grow from Zero to nearly 1700 members, and hope that I've been able to make some worthwhile contribution. To be run well it requires regular (daily) attention. I find now, that due to other commitments, it is necessary, for me to share the duties with another eminently qualified member. Please join me in welcoming @DianeB as co-moderator!
  8. When I was looking to buy my first electric guitar I wanted a classic that could play virtually any style of music, one that I would be happy with for a lifetime and would retain or appreciate in value. After much research (and saving) I settled on the ES335. It was and is still all of those things. Surprisingly I dont play it all the time, but when I do, it never disappoints. When I put it down , I always end up saying to myself " thats a great guitar".
  9. Indeed.. Steve K reported that while filming (videoing?) Live Lessons with Robben Ford, the tone was excellent, but his volume incredibly LOUD. So loud that the sound man / producers had too much to handle balancing the mic's , and amps which unfortunately resulted in much of the audio being "inaudible" . Too much of a good thing... (huh... eh? what didja say?
  10. @Mike Hoodenpyle. That was beautifully done Mike. I really enjoy this hymn and your playing. ( I did hear a bit of Steve's influence in there) 🎸👍👍
  11. As most of you are likely aware, this upgrade has been completed, and all forums, chat etc appear to be functioning normally. If you experience any issues with the site, you can send me a PM and I'll pass them along to Steve, who does the "behind the scenes" work.
  12. Congrats good progress @S Bach. You're seeing how well crafted the LMG course is, building new skills upon a solid foundation, 1 at a time.
  13. Well done! A nice cheerful little piece for Spring. 🙂
  14. DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES WITH YOUTUBE LIVE, TONIGHT'S LIVE LESSON WILL BE RECORDED AND POSTED ON OUR CHANNEL IN A COUPLE OF DAYS...
  15. insane... Ps. I dont doubt his skill one iota. I does make me wonder though. With all this modifying the guitar signal, is this really guitar music or electronica?
  16. @S Bach I suggest you go with the Ditto x2. I have one. Its veru well made and works perfectly every time. It does taje a little while to get the hang of it but its a great practice tool. Get Steve's vide too.
  17. @JackEBlue Im not sure if you are referring to a brief black out period during the show.. Unfortunately there were some technical challeges (one of the crew tripped on a camera cable and Robbens mic was pulling out of place causing muffled audio). If you missed the show a editted version will be available on our YouTube channel in a few days.
  18. That 's really well done @Texaspackerfan Danny! Could you tell us a bit about your recording process? Did you use a drum machine or plugin on a DAW? Did you mic an amp for the guitar parts or play direct into a DAW (which one?) and what plug in in. Thanks and congrats. Neil
  19. Gear question for Robben; I ve noticed Robben playing several different styles / types / makes of guitars, from Tele's , Les Paul's to ES335's etc.. Does he have a favorite for blues / jazz or does he choose according to the sound he wants to get for a particular song?
  20. Well Done @CliffMcCartney Good clear notes, good timing. And your recording is good too. This will hold you in good stead. You should progress very well! Happy Tunes; Neil
  21. NOTE: Please bear with us while the site software undergoes a huge upgrade! Temporary disruptions may result. Just trying to make this the best discussion board on the planet!
  22. As @Triple-o says, dont worry too much about other strings ringing out for now... just work on getting a good clean note, and playing smoothly ("legato" ) from one note to the next, to avoid that " awkward split second" . It will make the tune sound so much better. All the Best! Neil
  23. @guitarben Thanks for taking the initiative and keeping this popular forum going. Regards; Neil
