  1. Thanks to @WATSON43 for May's theme: Theme: "Short and Sweet" Description: Any song that's 2 and one-half minutes (2:30) or less. Or if that's too restrictive we could do 3 minutes or less, but let's try to keep it under 2:30. Everyone is encouraged to submit something, regardless of style or skill level! Deadline: 11:59 PM PST May 31st, 2019 ------------------< NOTES >------------------------- SUBMITTING: Soundcloud and Youtube work great, basically anything that will allow me to embed your track in this thread. GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix. GEAR: Just record it with whatever you have available. The goal is to hear you play, not to judge mixing or recording skills. TIME: A recording made at any time before the entry deadline counts, but do not enter a recording in more than one challenge. ONE ENTRY per person or collaboration. But, I doubt anybody will complain if you want to share another on-theme track too. NEXT THEME: The person to choose next month's theme will be chosen randomly from those who complete this challenge. I use the Random Thing Picker to select the "winner". ----------------------------------------------------- Have fun, try something new, and give us something to listen to!
  2. Thanks! That was a good introduction; it's interesting to get input from someone who has been using GB for a long time. I just started using it as a step up from the voice recorder on my phone and I haven't looked for tutorials yet, but it seems that most people move on to fancier DAWs quickly.
  3. Thanks everyone for participating through submissions and comments and keeping this thing going! I keep pushing it back to see if Hammy will come back, I'll make a point to be more punctual with it from now on. The Random thing picker selected @WATSON43 to choosethe theme for May. Let me know so I can get it started!
  4. Welcome aboard @Jusca! I'll post the rhythm asap, unfortunately I wasn't able to do it over the weekend
  5. @Nutty 1 Thank for the reply! I will not change the chord progression, and I'll keep it at 1 chord per bar. There's no need to complicate things for now, it's a nice challenge for me as it is.
  6. @Nutty 1 Perfect thank you, this will be fun! It might be better to keep the questions and discussion here so that others may see the process. 2 things I would like to clarify: 1- The strumming patterns are up to me? 2- The number of chords and bar always match; should I stick to 1 chord per bar or is that up to me?
  7. Many people seem busy right now... it must be a sign that I shouldn't sit this one out and finally take the plunge! I would be happy to volunteer for the rhythm guitar track, I really appreciate the opportunity to learn from you guys. Also I just got a new cable that solved my latency problem in Garage Band, so I'll get to learn more about that too; I have simply been using the voice recorder on my phone. Fair warning: based on my current skills I should probably stick with open chords and 8th notes strumming, although I don't mind stepping out of my comfort zone (reasonably).
  8. Welcome @DianeB and big thanks to the moderators and the whole team behind the site!
  9. Thanks for sharing UZEB, they are great. I didn't know you grew up in Montreal!
  10. Welcome aboard @pkotof and thanks for sharing your story! I play djembe too, although I try to concentrate on the guitar more.
  11. Here's a video I found of Chet Atkins playing it (this video cannot be embedded): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtMpDvOVpVE This got me reading about Elizabeth Cotten, it is a very interesting story. She wrote the song in her teens (some sources say she was 11), gave up guitar for 25 years and was discovered while working as a nanny for the Seeger family. She toured and released records well into her 80s and won a Grammy at 91. The 1956 version is credited as one of the main influences on the rise of skiffle in the UK and was covered by The Quarrymen, although no recording exist. If that's not enough, she toured with Mississippi John Hurt, John Lee Hooker, and Muddy Waters.
  12. Sorry for the delay, here is this month's challenge! This month's theme is courtesy of @Nutty 1. Spring will be here soon (hopefully) so love is in the air! Theme: Love and relationships Description: "Love and relationships" Any type of love or relationship/partnership. Deadline: 11:59 PM PST April 30, 2019 1- @mark_h - Sabor a mi 2- @Wim VD1 - Whatever you want 3- @WATSON43 - Shower the people 4- @Texaspackerfan - Break up in the end ------------------< RULES >------------------------- SUBMITTING: To complete the challenge, record an eligible song and reply to this thread with your your direct-linked or embedded track (Soundcloud's great) before the end of the month. GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix. GEAR: All content must be recorded with your home studio equipment. You may use BIAS or loops as long as you play the majority of the song with your real guitar. This is a guitar playing challenge not a sampling/recording challenge so keep that in mind. ----------------------------------------------------- Have fun, try something new, and give us something to listen to!
  13. Paul's great, I strongly recommend his channel to those who don't know him yet. He recently recently released his own course, I would check it out if I didn't already have enough on my music stand.
  14. Sorry about the delay, I wanted to see if @UncleHammy would take back his thread, then I had no power for a couple of days. I used the Random thing picker and it selected @Nutty 1 to choose April's theme! Please let me know the new theme and I'll create the new thread. Thanks again to all who contributed, listened and commented!
  15. Welcome back to the course @pkotof! Keep us posted of your progress!
