  1. Great performance Diane and yes the vouchers do make you a pro. Everyone sure looked like they were having fun and isn't this what it is all about. Henk
  2. Good job Greg. It would have been to easy to say, "the hell with it" but you hung in there to make it work. Kudo's to you to for giving your neighbors an entertaining evening. Henk
  3. Great job Watson43, that was very good. You even sound like Neil. I'm not sure but I think this car was an old hearse. Henk
  4. I would like to suggest finding a friend to practice with, be it daily, weekly or monthly. Most of the time I practice alone and I enjoy that, but practicing with others brings in another element of the learning process. Together you exchange different ideas, improve timing and strumming styles. Henk

    Face in the Mirror

Really enjoyed your experience Diane. I play two gigs a year with the guys I jam with and always get the butterflies. Why is it that we all suffer a lack of confidence at the start but after a song we are in our glory. ... I've got seven women on my mind... Henk
  6. Ron, mine is the PRS SE Santana. I wish for the Signature or Retro but this is my first electric guitar. Before committing a lot of $$$ I wanted to be sure the electric would be a direction I could enjoy. For the money this is a beautiful sounding guitar with a short scale. I am playing it more than my acoustics. After reading about your experience with the semi-hollow, I am getting twinges of gas. Henk
  7. After reading the comments about the NYXL strings for the past few months I took the plunge and installed a set of NYXL balanced tension 10 - 46 strings on my PRS Santana. I had been using the Ernie Ball Paradigm strings (9's) which were at the end of their life. First impression, like that of many other users was, "Wow, these strings are bright" but not an overly harsh brightness. I found that much of the brightness could be controlled with the guitar's tone controls (Knob or pickups) or with the amp settings. The notes ring very clear with what appears to me to be slightly more sustain. As for the balanced tension, the D'Addario promo states, " ... differences in string tension can contribute to players altering their techniques, consciously or subconsciously, to compensate for these variances." So far my fingertips cannot sense the difference between these and normal tension strings. My fingertips really like the 10's which are not as loosey goosey as the 9's were. It has only been a few days but colour me impressed. Time will tell. Henk
  8. Get well soon Maria, you're a real trooper. You play better with one hand than I do with two. Henk
  9. Thanks for the link Ron. Just looking at the prices makes me feel faint. Winning bids seem to be approx. five times the estimates. As much as I would like to have one of these guitars, reality strikes in. I doubt very much that a $10,000 dollar PRS will make me a better player. Thanks for the opportunity to drool for a few minutes. Henk
  10. I agree, I've been watching Marty's tutorials for the past year. Not only Jazz but many popular songs. He keeps it simple and I like that. Henk
  11. I tried them on my PRS Santana. The sound was bright enough but I didn't think that they were any better than some of the lower priced strings. I do remember reading that they contribute to a higher rate of fret wear but I can't confirm that. A subjective issue, I am still looking for that certain sound to my damaged ears. Presently using GHS Boomers (9) but looking to try the NYXL balanced 10's. Henk
  12. Very nice Dave. I always prefer to see wood grain rather than painted metal. For me it adds "warmth" to the room. Henk
  13. I am a big fan of the VOX AC30 with headphones. It's cheap and gets the job done. Henk

  15. I would love to be in the crowd for that show. Been waiting for years for Santana to bring a concert to our area. Finally he came mid March this year, but I missed it. The reason: Trekking through Disney World with the kids and Grand-kids. Ah well, we all have our priorities. Henk
  16. I'm in Grimsby, which I like to say, "..is the nerve centre of the Niagara Peninsula". This is a great idea and do you think this could be combined with craft beer tasting? Henk
  17. I have the LoudBox Mini and love it. I agree with the Blue Dog that this would be a grounding issue. If you move it to another room and the buzz stops then something in the first room is causing the interference. If it continues to buzz in the second room you have now narrowed it down to the Mini or the home's electrical ground which may have leakage. Take the Mini to another house and try it again. Still buzzing then it has to be the Mini. Good Luck. Henk
  18. Sadly, today I learned of the passing of Nokie Edwards, the lead/bass for the Ventures. The Ventures were one of my favourite bands in the sixties. Telestar, Pipeline and especially Apache were my favourite songs. Henk
  19. Matonajin is bang on. The guys I play with are accomplished guitarists and when I blow it during a song, they continue. Afterwards, they help me to correct my mistake and we replay the song. My playing is improving immensely because my jams are disguised lessons. Henk
  20. Thanks for the review Randy. I’ve been having some doubts about my GHS boomers lately. I think I will give them a try.
  21. Thank you Steve and also to all of the members who gave of their time to make this site as great as it is. This is a wonderful site for the education of guitar players. Personally, I started this journey late in life. I have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons, information on various gear, but most of all I feel like part of an online family. We are linked by the common goal of becoming better guitar players and everyone is trying to help each other to reach that goal. For me that is tops. Henk
