  1. OMG, @Dave White, If only I had kept my 54 Chevy back!!!!! Mine was a metal flake blues. Your '55, was it a V-8? 1955, as you know, was the first year Chevy had a production V-8. I took the 6 cylinder out of my '54 and replaced it with a 57 V-8, 4 barrel carb and 4 speed. No one ever expected me to have a v-8 and I won a lot of races! The downsize was that the engine comparment was so cramped there was no room for heater ducts and it was cold in the winter!? I tried to convince any cute girls that rode with me that I had a way to warm up. That was rarely successful.? Ah memories.!
  2. Dave, thanks for posting this. These are interesting articles and when I saw them I meant to share them here. And then I spaced it off. Thanks again.
  3. @NeilES335, what a great time that had to be. And an appropriate reward for all the hours of hard work that you have invested in preparation for this opportunity. Your sharing this experience is encouragement for all of the rest of us on here. I sure hope that you can get that video for us to see.
  4. Neil, yes, once again I am hoping that since I've been working some of these techniques, bending, sliding, etc., "on the side", I'll spend a little less time here than I might of. We'll see?
  5. Many of you are probably aware of TrueFire's Back to School sale. And there are quite a few of us on here that have sampled TrueFire Course's. Each day of the TrueFire Back to School Sale has a Daily $5 Download. That download to day is Jeff McErlain's Blues Rock Evolution. I'm not sure what he means by "evolution" but Jeff is an awesome guitarist and well respected educator over at TrueFire. I have several of his courses (of course I do) that I have not, unfortunately started yet. This is one of his courses that I bought some time ago for far more than $5. My link will take you to the full course description and the video introduction. An excerpt: " Five blues rock instrumentals are broken up into four rhythm and four solo lessons. 40 video lessons in all. " It is listed as for intermediate students. What have you got to lose (other than $5)?
  6. Finishing up "Johnny E Blues" today. I'm going to go through it a few more times then moving on. A few days ago I tried it with a little palm muting and I think it sounded a little better than letting the open strings ring. But doing that introduced one more challenge! But I'm working that a little more and then it's behind me.
  7. Hi all. I'm here. Finishing up S13 today or tomorrow but starting this session today.
  8. Mark, thank you for this helpful, informative post. I think any one that is considering, or may consider, playing guitar at weddings will be grateful for this very considered information.
  9. Yes, @zeus7625, well done. Congrats on making it to S6 and keep us posted on your progress.
  10. Greg @gotto) has his band together and played his barbecue gig. @Six String has been sharing with us about his blue rock group. @Eracer_Team-DougH is playing in his church group. It's time to announce that I have my band together! (Maybe my announcement is slightly premature? I had shared earlier this year about my granddaughter, Malene, getting her new guitar for her birthday (thanks to the fabulous repair work of @PatIam.) Shortly after that Malene's brother and sister decided they want to play an instrument. So here is the band! (Yeah, I know. A grandpa posting videos of his grand-kids. Annoying.?? Humor me. Malene on guitar: Trygg on drums: And Torunn on keyboards (Trygg and Torunn are twins)
  11. Neil, this is why it was somewhat bothersome. I have also been working blues materials, including the "shuffle" from some complementary sources. I haven't been working it for years, as you, but long enough that it shoudn't have presented as much of a challenge as it did. As I said, it was that shuffle over the V chord and then to the IV. But I moved up to the "fast" version today and am very close. It was fun. I'll be there soon.
  12. Why haven't I learned by now not to make predictions about how long it will it take to finish some course material? Am I completely incorrigible? ? I got to Johnny E Blues and I don't know why I am struggling so badly with that V -> IV -> I rhythm. If I loop just it and go through it a few times, I got it! But then I go back to then entire song and get to that part and the turnaround and the wheels fall off! How did people learn guitar not being able to loop a section? ? did Clapton and SRV use Guitar Pro 6?? @NeilES335, @Triple-o, did that section in particular challenge you guys? I have Johhny E Blues slow Version about done (at 92%). I'm pretty sure I hope to get the fast version finished in the next couple days. Sheez, there I go again! predicting! @NeilES335, don't leave the light on.
  13. Greg, @gotto I was looking for that CD and realized as I was looking that it wasn't Sultans but Money for Nothing. Which doesn't matter because I am still looking. But as I was looking I came across a CD with a half dozen live recordings of Clapton, Santana, et. al. I have no idea where I got the songs. But one of them is Sultans of Swing with Knopfler and Clapton. I wasn't sure how to get that to you when I decided to look for the concert on YT. I think it's very cool despite the horrible 70's video quality:
  14. Thanks for sharing the great news Randy
  15. @IanD Happy birthday! Enjoy the day
  16. Yeah, Greg, you sounded great. But the real question is, "How was the barbeque?"
  17. I know that Steve will appreciate that gesture for his birthday! @Steve Krenz, my friend, Happy Birthday! Ron
  18. @jumiclads, let me apologize up front for not answering your question. I don't know if it the Boss JS-10 will work for you and your wife practicing together. I would think it would. Is there a better way? I don't know that either. I have the Boss JS-10 and love it. I have posted here and over at our previous home many times recommending the product. But I have never used it with another guitar plugged in. I have taken it to several environments, lessons, jams, etc. thinking that I would use it that way but it never materialized. I even flew to Chicago one time to take a lesson with @Steve Krenz with it but we only plugged my guitar in! As Neil mentioned there are other members are here that have it and hopefully one or more of them will offer you a more helpful response than mine. If you find it will work for you and your wife it is a very useful learning tool. I use it every day. I always have the different learning materials that I am working stored on it. As an example I am finishing up Session 13 right now. The last jam along song is "Johnny's E Blues". I have it set to about 80% speed and I have it looped to about the first 8 or 9 bars. When I get it to where I can play all 12 bars I will start increasing the speed until I get it to 100%. I probably used mine for at least a year before I tried the different modelling amps and effects that it has. I still rarely use it for that. I usually plug in to something else. Any song that I am working goes on it and I have lots of backing tracks on it. It's really compact as Neil also mentioned. Many times it has gone in the overhead in a plane or the back seat of my car. That's when I use it to plug in. good luck to you and let us know what you decide. I'm now logging off and going to go work "Johnny's E Blues" and blues scale with it.
  19. I couldn't agree more, Barb. As I was watching it I thought this is one of the best ones yet. And that I need to review it.
  20. Randy, this is horrible news. Here is hoping you mend quickly.
  21. You are on session 15 after 2 years and consider that "pretty slow"?!?!?!??!?!?!?? Compared to some of us that is breakneck speed!!?? Congratulations on making it to 15. I'll let others address you questions about note reading.
  22. Guitar Tricks has 5 songs that they categorize as Rockabilly. @revster, I can't remember what Guitar Tricks charges per month. You could go a month or two and see what you think. I joined because there were a few songs they had that I was learning for my weekly jam.
