  1. Thanks to @WATSON43 for May's theme: Theme: "Short and Sweet" Description: Any song that's 2 and one-half minutes (2:30) or less. Or if that's too restrictive we could do 3 minutes or less, but let's try to keep it under 2:30. Everyone is encouraged to submit something, regardless of style or skill level! Deadline: 11:59 PM PST May 31st, 2019 ------------------< NOTES >------------------------- SUBMITTING: Soundcloud and Youtube work great, basically anything that will allow me to embed your track in this thread. GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix. GEAR: Just record it with whatever you have available. The goal is to hear you play, not to judge mixing or recording skills. TIME: A recording made at any time before the entry deadline counts, but do not enter a recording in more than one challenge. ONE ENTRY per person or collaboration. But, I doubt anybody will complain if you want to share another on-theme track too. NEXT THEME: The person to choose next month's theme will be chosen randomly from those who complete this challenge. I use the Random Thing Picker to select the "winner". ----------------------------------------------------- Have fun, try something new, and give us something to listen to!

  2. I found the built in "nome" on the Reaper DAW helpful... Although I seldom use it, and I think I have a pretty good sense of internal timing, it did show me I can be off a bit...Maybe thats what attracts me to jazz "rubato" ... (without time) noun 1. the temporary disregarding of strict tempo to allow an expressive quickening or slackening, usually without altering the overall pace. ) 🙂

  3. I looked hard at that one, but cheaper out. I bought the Peterson unit that plugs into the earphone jack of the metronome and clips on your belt and vibrates. It does a really good job of showing me how bad my timing is.

  4. The action at the nut is relative to the fret height. A generic measurement will not cut it. Hold down each string at the 3rd fret and tap over the first fret. If you have any clearance or gap between the string and the fret, you are good, if you have no gap that would mean the slot is too low and you will likely buzz when the string is played open. There could be a big difference in fret height from guitar to guitar as there are dozens of varying height fret-wire available for luthiers to use; therefore, to make a claim to set it at a certain height as a blanket statement is just inaccurate - when measuring from the board to check nut height. I made mention of this this because some folks do in-fact do it this way. As I read through the notes above I just realized that oldjock made mention of taking that measurement from the first fret. Got it! That can be made to work. However, you can dial it in more precisely than that. I left my commentary in the first paragraph for the sake of making sense. Rock on! I hope this was of help, Greg Voros

  5. You're welcome! If you have any questions along the way, please feel free to DM me. I agree that it seems like many people do move on to other DAWs very quickly, and I really can't understand why. The DAW is really just the tool, and with Garageband, it can get very deep if you want and have the know how. The part where I discuss the sampling rate is where many people get hung up. I am learning that the real industry standard is 48Khz or 96Khz mostly because of the video conversion issue. Garageband is stuck at 44.1Khz and doesn't give the option to change the sampling rate at all. To pay $200 just for the ability to do that doesn't seem reasonable to me. I'm just a home hobbyist, though.
