Here's my latest Jazz Studio collaboration; "That's All". This time featuring two fine Canadian jazz guitarists, JP Cousineau (Montreal Quebec), Dan Kozar (Windsor, Ontario) and myself. What a treat to play with these gentlemen. We hope you enjoy listening!

That's another nice sounding collaboration, Neil. Are the 3 parts recorded simultaneously?

I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Wim; It was I think, our best one yet 🙂 .  I'm glad you enjoyed it! All three parts, audio and video were recorded in separate locations, and later mixed to produce the video.

Doug;  Thanks Doug😊 JP Cousineau plays  a vintage Washburn, similar to a Gibson ES175.. He told me it's a hand made instrument made in Japan.

Thank you all for your kind comments. It certainly helps to play with excellent players. I've participated in several now, but this was my first as a Trio, and having the melody lead as well. They are fun to do, once you get the hang of it. I am looking forward to the next one 😉 .  For the past year or so I've concentrated on learning jazz standards, both rhythm and melodies, and also learning the fretboard even better. I'm also working on a course for solo guitar on Chord Melody style arrangements (playing chords and melody simultaneously) . Lots of new chord shapes and harmonizations!

Never stop learning😉 Cheers; Neil

Hey everyone,

Seasons greetings. Not sure if this thread is still active but I just thought I'd share a short clip from Elvis' Heartbreak hotel I was learning recently from The Song Hits, songbook.

Thanks man. I'll definitely look to make some more lengthy tracks as I progress through the lessons.

Yes this was fun. Honestly, its hard to play the chords to that song without hearing Elvis singing it in your head. I ended up checking out a lot of his videos online while learning it.

Well it was a tricky one on Fingerstyle and yes there's enough glitches in it and then the "solo" didn't come off quite like I wanted and got a bit "improvised" at least I ended it on the C which is the key

I do have a 'vocal' version as well.. but I'll save your guitar ears

I had the privilege recently to participate in a virtual collaboration with 8 other players from 5 countries in a  jam of "Little Wing" ( Jimi Hendriks)  These great players and I  are all members of Frank Vignola's Jazz Studio on Truefire.  We where all given the freedom to create our own solos, using acoustic flat top guitars I hope you enjoy it! It was fun to do 🙂

I’m definitely not the best guitarist on this forum.
many of my strum n sing songs may use “simple “ open chords most of the time, my solos are very simple, and my hearing makes vocals a struggle

I listened to Bill Withers and Buddy Guy’s version on this song

Buddy does a killer duet and lead guitar

I present my version

I'm mostly a story teller that plays a bit of guitar. Wish I could sing, but I enjoy the part of songwriting.

This song is dedicated to my father.

I haven't posted anything in quite awhile, but I completed a cover of Bob Seger's Against The Wind that I think came out really well. It was an opportunity to try out some new features in Logic Pro, specifically the chord progression feature and updated virtual musicians (almost like playing in a band!). Just for fun, I added a guitar solo instead of trying to replicate the piano solo. I'm playing the rhythm guitar as well on acoustic. I also swapped out an organ for strings which I thought worked really well. Most of the songs I do are played a little slower than the original. Here is the link to the file in my Dropbox account:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/r3t9r4rqpf0gri6x3gory/Against-The-Wind.mp3?rlkey=k7qy1kvmi1ygso6pdpkxxuhw4&st=yb157jwf&dl=0

Please feel free to comment.

@dan0725 hey I just grabbed a listen

sounds pretty good

as musicians and eventually music producers we make choices as we go along

“If it was me mixing “ I would pull the orchestra back a tad, thus giving a bit more room for the guitar part. And I’d leave room for the vocals to be more on top of that

but that’s just my personal choices

A little more guitar-centric song. Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown (one of my dad’s favorites).
