Harry, coincidentally that song was just 'Highly Commended' by the judges in the UK Songwriting Contest. I have to admit that I'm a little cynical about these things (do they stroke your ego so that you enter again next year?), but from googling it does seem to be one of the most well-respected international songwriting competitions out there.
Beautiful song, @IanD. I can only agree with the " Highly Commended" judgement from the songwriter contest. You have developed your own "voice". Very nice.

Wow Ian,
Playing fingerstyle and singing at the same time, that is a lot to handle!
You gave the song a very personal touch and I like it a lot.

@Wim VD1 Awesome! So glad you are our 1st "Open Mic" recording! Excellent playing on this recording. And the vocals melody line was really good also.. Impressive collection of songs on SoundCloud Wim. Keep them coming! PS I really liked "Celestine" and "Hide Away" too.
Thanks for creating this thread and for your nice words, Neil.
Recording has become a fixed element in my learning routine. It also pushes me to work harder on the quality of my playing. Learning of a song is only complete when the recording sounds good enough to my ears.
And most important: it's a lot of fun. I can only recommend it.

On my Blues journey, I am working on a cover of Eric Clapton's version of Freddie King's Tore Down.
I added the fills, but decided not to work out the solo yet.
Unfortunately I can't sing. So I ended up recording the vocal melody line as a separate guitar track. Thanks for listening,
Wim

Thanks, Danny.
It's been 4 months now since I finished LMG and started my blues journey. The fundaments provided by the LMG course are strong and the more I play, the more fun I seem to have. Just like yourself, I can't get enough of playing guitar.

Hey Danny, congratulations on this great achievement!
I agree with you that this LMG course is excellent and that completing it gives even more appetite for taking the next step on the guitar learning journey.
Your recording is beautiful and sounds professional. Great production as well.

That are some beautiful jazzy chords that you are playing, Neil. I also like the combination of bass notes and chords. Makes me think of bossa nova.
Thanks for sharing,
Wim.

Hi Mandy,
I enjoyed your cover a lot. The tone is great. What Garageband amp and effects did you use?
If I may, I would also advise to you to focus on the right timing more , now that you have the notes and the tone right.
Great piece of work.

Well, seeing as this is "What are you working on month" and no-one minds something a little rough around the edges, here's my humble submission (my first on this forum I believe).
This short jazz fingerstyle tune is something I wrote a while back (still a work in progress... Ive since lengthened it ); played unplugged on my Godin archtop. (1 take recorded on my cellphone so I apologize for the low quality)
Thanks for listening.
Hi Neil,
I can't play m4a formats on my iPhone or iPad. I'll try on a Windows PC tomorrow.

It's good to see you posting your work in progress and I hope many will follow your example!
If I may give some feedback on your work: you are playing the right notes, and now the next step is to focus more on the right timing.
Well done,
Wim.

That's interesting. I need to dig deeper into this and try it out.
Thanks for sharing, @Triple-o.

@Texaspackerfan This is really good! You really are a good old boy in the best possible way.
@Wim VD1 Finger pickin' good mash up.
@IanD Nice start Ian. I would add some compression to bring up the soft parts.
Hi Randy,
I was surprised to find out that one of the main riffs from ELP "Peter Gunn Theme" comes straight out of "Hide away". So Freddie King did not only inspire Eric Clapton and SRV, but many more.

That was excellent. Well played my friend. I love playing the blues too, i wish more people here would want to hear a blues band.
Danny
Thanks, Danny.
I would expect some SRV fans in Texas, who want to hear the blues.
Pride and Joy is on my list of next challenges ?.
Take care, and good luck with your new band.

While working on the Blues Course, I am rediscovering the music of the old blues masters. Freddie King is definitely one of my favorites.
This is my version of Hide Away. I tried to stay close to his style, so I got rid of the pick and played with index finger and thumb.
Thanks for listening,
Wim.

Thanks for the video Wim, this guy is a real piece of work. I'm pretty sure I would be doing the job on a work bench and not the floor. (I can't believe he was sawing just over the hardwood floor). The information regarding the procedure seems reasonable enough although I would suggest a few changes. First he used a piece of finger joint pine for the block. This is too soft and has a tendency to split (as evidenced when he cut the block), rather I would use a hardwood. Second, possibly redundant, I would make measurements before and after loosening the trem screws. Overall it was a good video of how to get the job done and he is a funny guy.
Henk
I was hesitating to post the link to this video because it is not really an example of fine craftsmanship ?. But it contained all necessary info for me to make this simple modification.

I'm interested Wim, since I also have a PRS with tremelo. What material did you use? Is it permanent? Is the tuning more stable with the block? Have you noticed any change in sustain? Did the pickups have to be adjusted after fitting the block? Sorry for so many questions, it is something I have thought about but I haven't been able to talk to someone who has actually tried it.
Henk
Henk, I followed the instructions from this old YouTube video from Robert Chapman.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkj8p4Z3Rjg
I took off all strings first, loosened the 2 screws you see on the left in my picture to have less pull from the springs, and then put the white block (very dense type of synthetic material) in place. By putting on the new strings, the white block is being clamped to stay in position.
As for the choice of material, I was looking through my DIY materials and found this hard plastic that had exactly the proper thickness. So the blocked bridge now has the same position as before the modification, and I did not have to adjust the saddles or anything else.
The change is not permanent and can be undone easily.
The modification makes string bends noticeably easier, and that was the prime reason for making this change. I do think the sustain has improved, but that might be partially due to the new strings as well.

@NeilES335, Congrats on finishing 16 and moving to 17!
I found the 3 notes on a string exercises from Session 17 to be complementary to the major scales fredboard workouts and kept them in my practice routine for many months while also working on other lessons in parallel.
You're getting close to L&M graduation. ?

Well done, Mike. Recording yourself is an essential part in the learning process.

Thanks for your useful feedback, @UncleHammy, @NeilES335, @mark_h and @IanD.
I guess I wanted to put too many of my newly learned licks into this improvisation ?.
By learning the blues language and going back to the basics, I now really appreciate and enjoy the pentatonic and blues scale.

I would suggest to work on both in parallel.

Learning all notes on the fredboard is part of Session 17 of the LMG course. So you could want till you are in that session, in case you are following LMG.
I used as complementary materials these video tutorials I found on YouTube:

Good luck,
