    Well done, Mandy.

You could play the song in the key of D and play the D5 and A5 power chords in the open position. The other 2 chords are Bm and G then.

This is the link to the song lesson on Justinguitar. The muting is also explained there.

    Let there be rock 😎.

    Wim.

Thank you Wim, I will watch the video and work at it.

Playing rock is heaps of fun and I want to join in! 🤩

Woohoo, the Summer of 69!  I graduated from high school in 1969, so this song has always had an extra special meaning for me.  It is a song I also thought of for this months challenge.  Fun stuff Mandy and I loved it. A rocker lives inside of Nutty! I was head banging😎

Thank you Greg, I am looking forward to hearing your version of it. It is a great song.

  3. Here is my entry. This was quite a challenge for me as this video has a few things that I have not done in a one take song before. The first is the power chords themselves and the second is playing while standing up. I find I have a tendency to bend my wrist too much when sitting down playing power chords so I did it standing to hopefully protect my arthritic wrist. The other challenge was the palm muting. Any tips to help me improve my technique would be great.

My apologies Mr Addams or Mr Scott for murdering their song "Summer of 69".

I would so love to be able to ROCK!

p.s. my wrist still looks very bent in the video

The challenge of this month gave me a good reason to finalize a little project of last year. Back then, I learned and recorded a solo "in the style of" Angus Young when doing the Classic Rock Guitar Unleashed course. Now was the right time to work out the intro and the rhythm part.

Wow Wim, that is absolutely amazing, it sounds so professional. Great playing and great tone. As @NeilES335 said it is awesome!😎👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  5. This months topic was chosen by @ak0693 He said "I was thinking, a challenge based on the recent power chords live lesson. Making progressions using those chords or rock songs, something like that on based off on the recent lesson"

😎So lets post songs/music using power chords.🎯🎸This is a great opportunity to put Steve's lessons into practice.

Or..........If you are not a power chord player then you can post a non power chord version of a song (like an acoustic version or jazzy version etc of a rock song).

The winner will be chosen by a random picker and will get to choose the next months theme. This is not about being the best it is all about recording and sharing.

    1. Wim VD1 playing "You shook me"

    2. Nutty1 playing "Summer of 69"

  6. @NeilES335 I enter the names of those who have posted a song into an online Random Picker I use this one  Random Picker.

I have just done it for the May Challenge and have sent a message to the winner. The prize is exactly as @Wim VD1 says INSTANT FAME plus............... the winner gets to choose the theme for the next Challenge.

So now we wait to find out what theme will be chosen. Drum roll please 🥁!!

Neil, please post the song even if it does not exactly fit, I am not all that strict really.🎸😁

I can not detect anything wrong at all. We are all our own worst critics.

That is excellent, beautifully done!  Thank you for sharing it with us.😎👏👏👏

  8. Hello @Jogarman, I remember my first few goes at singing and playing at the same time. It was really difficult.

The first song I did was "Mull of Kintyre", the chords are really easy for this song and they do not change every bar. I did all downward strums, 1 strum per beat.

Keep going with your first simple song and it will start to feel natural after a while. After that try some more simple ones, then when you have them down you can try adding your favourite strumming pattern (i.e. a strumming pattern that you can do on auto-pilot).

For the singing a big part of it is picking a song that is in your vocal range, there are plenty of songs that I have started on and realised that there is no way that I can sing them as my voice will not go that high (yet😁). For songs that are too low you can use a capo. I found a great little course on Udemy which I always come back to, it is great as a warm up and the warm up exercises also act as vocal training. https://www.udemy.com/course/bettersinger/

If you want to go deeper then the singing simplified series is good, here is the first one https://www.udemy.com/course/vocal-workouts-1/ but I must admit that being lazy I mostly use the bettersinger course!

Be sure to record yourself as you practice and then you can identify the areas that you may need to work on.

Most of all keep at it, you can do it!

    Hey Mandy,

That's a sad song. Singing and playing at the same time, I envy you for that 🎤🎸. Well done,

    Wim.

It is very kind of you to say that. I only do simple stuff, not complicated things like you and the others who post here. 😎

I have been slowly incorporating some very basic fingerstyle into my performances,  my goal is to do more fancy stuff but I am limited by my arthritis and trigger fingers and the fact that I have a terrible memory.🤣🤣🤣

  10. Hello All,

I hope you are keeping as well as you can, if you are on lockdown at home or have any free time please join in with our May Recording Challenge.

    🤩🙃😲Emotions😭😎🤣

This Months Recording Challenge was chosen by gotto he said "I think “Emotions “ is a pretty broad theme for musical play. Love, sadness, hope, happiness, loneliness, passion, fears, stress, joy. " Or any others

Participants and other listeners are invited to give some supportive and constructive feedback on the submissions because that is how we learn and grow.

🎸Here is how the Challenge works. The challenge is to record a song which fits the subject (although you are free to post any song even if it does not fit the subject). The names of people who post a song that fits the Challenge subject are put into "Random Picker" and the person which the picker chooses will be contacted by me and asked if they would like to pick the topic for the next Challenge. It is not about being the best it is about joining in and getting your playing heard.

  11. @gotto this is an excellent recording Greg and it is great to have you back posting in the challenge. Beautifully played and sang, you did a superb job.

When I saw the title of the song I thought "this is going to be something weird that the younger generation like" but as you started to sing I recognised it. That is a great song born of a terrible time.

  12. @Magnit Congratulations on your successful guitar learning 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Most of us take years to complete the course and many of us have not yet completed it, myself included! I believe Steve Krenz later regretted putting the time frames on.

The course is available to purchase outright on Udemy but they made a separate course for the jam tracks and seem to have hidden it, hopefully  that situation will be resolved soon.

  13. Welcome @FTB23. What a great way to make use of the Lock Down! The L&M course is probably still the best beginner course on the market that you can own outright. I am so glad that I purchased it and followed it. There were times when I was frustrated because I felt like I was not making progress but now I see that by continuing to do it I was making progress. Keep your end goal in your head, go steady and you will get there. 🎸
