  1. Apparently our Jack Pearson was honored by the Tennessee State Capital. I say "our" because he has been on our Live Lessons and at the Guitar Gathering. I met Jack last year on the Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea Cruise and what a nice, humble man. I got to speak with him for about 15 minutes after one of his workshops. There is a also video of his playing "Tennessee Waltz" at the Tennessee Senate and I'll see if I can find it and post it as well. I got this from Facebook.
  2. Steve, Is there any talk (or thoughts) about Corey Congilio coming back this year?
  3. Everybody remember, or be aware, to be able to watch it on YouTube and Chat, so that you can can pose questions to Steve you must have a Google account. To be clear, you can watch it on YouTube without an account. But you must have a Google account to be able to log in, chat, and pose questions. Most people probably do have a Google account. But in case not, it's a very easy process to sign up. If you need/want to create that account you may want to head over to YT a little bit early to do so.
  4. Neil, I couldn't agree more. When I started reading your post and it talked about blues players using "jazz chords" my mind immediately went to Robben Ford. He is one awesome guitarist. I have his course Blues Revolution. ( I also have Rhythm Revolution and Chord Revolution) It is way above my pay grade at this point. When I finish L&MG, and then L&M Blues, it will be one of the first things I tackle "post Learn and Master". Thanks for posting this.
  5. Studying this, it looks like there are different versions of it: There is a Classic rock version and the Sweetwater description says, " Vox amPlug Classic Rock G2 headphone guitar amplifier, and enjoy some authentic rock 'n' roll guitar tone. " There is a G2 versions which states, " Vox amPlug AC30 G2 headphone guitar amplifier, and enjoy some authentic British Invasion tone. " And there is a Metal version, which states, " Vox amPlug Metal G2 headphone guitar amplifier, and enjoy some authentic metallic grind. " There is also a Bass version. Hmmmm. I'm guessing I'm going with the British tone one. (Maybe I should figure out my looper that I got for Chrsitmas and haven't plugged in yet before getting another toy. Naaa.)
  6. Limatje, I trust you know the rules here! No Pictures? It didn't happen! Let's see pictures!!!! Ps. Congratulations on the new guitar.!
  7. Don, thanks for posting this. Very interesting. I had seen this somewhere but didn't move on it. I'm going to seriously look at it this time.
  8. It doesn't seem to be free any longer but it is only $11.99. Well worth it. It says that price is only good for 3 hours which, of course, is the digital version of late night shopping channels, "Call now!" But I'm signing up at that price. If I had time I could threaten some people around me, friends, wife, etc. with my singing and they would pay it. But I'm just going to sign up
  9. "At this point am I just being too critical of myself?" Probably. You've only been at this barely over a month! Don't worry too much about the chords for the first four lessons. Those chord shapes are there in the early lessons for you to start memorizing the shapes and start to get the chords to ring out clearly. Concentrate on the learning the single notes for these first lessons. You will start studying chords seriously in Session 5. Good luck to you and welcome to Guitar Gathering.
  10. Anyone interested in John Mayer's playing may want to check out last month's issue of Guitar Techniques magazine. I say last month because I just got March's issue in the mail. Since, being a subscriber, I am supposedly to get issue before the newsstand I'm not sure which one will be available on the newsstand. If the February one is gone you can order back issues here. Looks like a pretty good article. About 7 pages of lessons and 10 or so audio files. The lesson is listed as "Moderate" skill level but I always seem to find they rate their lessons fairly conservatively. That is to say I would call their "Moderate" actually "Moderate/Advanced".
  11. Really nice, Mark. Very nice. I distinctly remember a very wise man once telling me, " I reckon only you noticed any flubs. "
  12. Thanks, Maria. Regarding the video, what I see of yours is not a video option but a SoundCloud link. So I am not sure. With YouTube Video I just typed in the actual URL address rather than using the link icon and that way it embeds the actual video rather than providing a link.
  13. It has been brought to my attention, thank you @bruster, that some members are pinning their exact address/location on the member map. We want to know where members are from. It is fun/interesting to see our membership from around the world. But it is probably good enough to narrow the location down to city and state/country. When I first pinned my location I was asked if I want to use my current location and I answered "Yes". It put the pin right on my house. A couple days later I rethought this and moved the pin to somewhere in Omaha. I'm not even sure where I have it. I hope I'm in a nice neighborhood. The member map is only accessible to members. So perhaps I'm suggesting excess caution. But if you have the pin right on your house you may want to consider moving it. And, obviously, it is entirely your decision how precise you want your pin to be. Should you decide to move it there is an easy option to do so.
  14. And what you should do UncleHammy is have one of the mods close the Monthly Challenge each month so people can't post late . But I have been meaning to contribute something for a long time. Day Tripper by the Beatles. This is definitely "The Old". The band that I played in that I posted the picture of played this. So it really took me back. The "New" is I have been trying to learn this for decades (or what seems like). Started working this in The Song Hits. Steve, of course, gave me the basics, the riff and the rhythm. Then I found a couple of sources for the bridge and solo. The backing track is from Karaoke Version. It is not where I would like it. But I came in from the barn, hence the clothes, and recorded it and I'm moving on. Probably to "Oh, Pretty Woman". The B chord (going from the C# to the B) in the chorus didn't ring clearly. I missed at least one note in the solo and towards the end I really got behind the beat. But here it is. Warts and all. Played with the new PRS, into a POD HD500X (with overdrive and a little chorus) into Fender Blues Jr. The backing track is played on the Boss Eband JS-10.
  15. Very cool new guitar Cap. You and I were shopping at the same time and comparing notes. I'm really glad you got yours home as well. I'm running out the door right now so will also listen when I get home. Congratulations!
  16. Thanks Henk! I don't know that I'm sweat'n it. I probably sound like it. I'll never gig so don't need to stand. I just know that standing is different than sitting and probably, maybe, learning to play both ways might make be better. Maybe that's false logic. And who knows? And, yeah, those Lakota strap I've ordered have been 3" and a huge difference in comfort compared to some of the 2" I had used. Those 2" ones are laying around somewhere never to go on a guitar again. Thanks again.
  17. With each session. Session 1 may not have jam along material; I can't remember. Each session has songs at the end of it to practice the concepts that you have learned in that session. The end of session 2 has "Ode To Joy" and "Jingle Bells". Those are both on CD 1 and "Ode to Joy" is tracks 2, 3 & 4 and "Jingle Bells" is tracks 5, 6, & 7. I'm currently working Session 13, "Playing the Blues" and at the end of it are "Jamming The Blues" and "Johny's E Blues". I am working playing along, frustrating myself , with Jamming The Blues.
  18. Six, I posed your question to Kenny, the owner, and this is the response I received: "Thanks Ron.. sometimes if one of our straps comes from 'belly' leather that might happen.. but no worries.. we offer a lifetime guarantee.. so if you or he ever experiences any sort of issue, it can be exchanged for a brand new one! thanks so much, Kenny" I don't know if this answers your question or not.
  19. Greg, I thought that I had posted my reason for wanting a light guitar but looking at my OP I didn't. After 3 spinal fusions I can't play standing for more than a few minutes with my any guitar that I currently have. I know that I need to play some standing and it's going to be a train wreck when I do it. When I get a strap for the new one it is going to happen. People don't realize even lifting a heavy guitar, like my LP, to my lap to play seated is painful. But I don't know why I'm telling you this! Some I'm loking forward to getting back to practicing standing up. But dreading what it is going to sound like
  20. Six, as you described it they they might be too soft. Any answer that I gave you wouldn't be much help as I haven't had them long enough or use them enough. I don't gig so mine haven't seen that much abuse. @Oldjock's response is much more relevant than anything I might offer. The other thing you could do is contact Lakota Leather's owner. I have found him to be very responsive to queries by email. He is #1 a player himself (I think primarily acoustic) and #2 surely he has users that have had them long enough and abuse them enough to give an objective answer. His phone is 1 (865) 963-9303 or you can go to his page and there is the typical "contact us" form.
  21. Gerard, thanks for this. Anything that will help with theory is appreciated.
