Recently I finally got rid of my boat anchor Les Paul for a Schecter Diamond Series Blackjack hardtail T style with Seymore Duncan HB pickups that kicked that LP in the dirt, but no ashtray. Are you ashtray Tele freaks brain damaged or is it me? I have built over 300 S style guitars and and only one absolutely esthetically beautiful ashtray tele for a country/western whiz kid. When I started that project I went thru 4 different sets of pickups to scrub that BS micro phonic crap off that ashtray. I finally gave up and set the neck with a lipstick and the bridge with a mini HB and split coil. I swore him to never telling anyone where it came from. He loves it. I hate it. How you can be a dedicated guitar player and love telecasters I will never understand. IMHO.

@Dig I don’t own a Tele, but me thinks your ‘humble opinion’ may fall on the minority side of the aisle.  🤣

Plantsman13, I agree which is why I posited the argument as a question.

@Dig despite your claimed position a question, there is little doubt, at least to this observer, your position is one of an opinion.  That little doubt can be the only assumption when your invited conversaants  are "freaks" and simultaneously "brain damaged".  And please don't try feigning sincere exchange of ideas with your offering "or is it me".

We welcome a conversation about gear here.  I actually wish we had more of it.  I don't suspect we will see much more in this thread.

In my opinion, a Tele has a tone that's difficult to replicate with another style of guitar which is why I have one in my arsenal. Mine is great to play and never had any issues with it.

Well I find Tele’s a little “ice picky “ to my ears

but I saw Sue Foley at a concert and she got a great tone for her pink Tele known as Pinky

i may get one eventually

ps my go to Les Paul is 9.03lbs my MIA Strat is 8.34lbs so LP not a lot heavier

Tele brings so many contradictions to my mind.  Brent Mason’s (and Steve’s) alterations make it so versatile.  It seems to be a favorite of K. Richards keeping rhythm for the Stones.  It’s most prominent role to me is Texas twang in country venues.  But the most enlightening genre to me is Jazz musicians who favor it.  Of course one can’t overlook a Tele for those who just WANT a Tele!  🤭
