  1. Congratulations!! I have a JTV-69 HSS. It's fun to play with . Enjoy.
  2. Hello Tpettygirl, I was just listening to this podcast. He gives some suggestions on how to get past the plateaus. You are being too hard on yourself. I have been playing for a few years and when I am learning new chords they always start off very rough. But with time and practice they do get better. How I practice chords is I will play the chord shape on the neck and try to get it to sound as clean as possible. I'll then put my fretting hand down on my leg and then try to make the shape with my fingers first and then place them on the neck of the guitar. I'll do this several times per sitting and eventually I am able to include the new chord shape in my playing. Be patient, you'll get there. But don't give up. Best of luck to you and welcome.
  3. I used the NYXLs for a couple of years, I've since changed to the Ernie Ball Paradigm strings.
  4. I remember Steve Vai saying he spent hours in front of a mirror practicing. He wanted to make sure everything he did with his hands not only sounded good but looked good as well.
  5. Definately a Ben. I have the spread sheets on maker, seller, price, etc, etc etc to prove it too. It takes me months to make a decision on what to buy and where lol.
  6. I tried these. The raised pattern seemed to get gummed up and lost their efficiency too fast. That's why I switched to the Snarling Dog Brain Picks. The grips stays effective a lot longer for me.
  7. I use the Jim Dunlop Nylon picks in .48 for strumming. For picking I like the Snarling Dogs Brain Picks in .88. I like the raised grips on these the best.
  8. I have several loaded on my phone. Drum Beats+ DrumJam Metrodrummer Mobile Metronome Rhythmic Metronome I also have a BeatBuddy pedal
  9. Unfortunately I don't have Showtime. I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.
  10. Or you could damp 5 and 6, catch the B on the D string at the 9th fret and omit the 7th (A). Playing B(1), D#(3), F#(5), and C(9).
  11. Could you play it with your thumb wrapped around to hit the B on the low E string at the 7th fret, damp the A string. Then catch the D string at the 7th fret with your index finger (A), the G string at the 8th fret with your ring finger (D#), the B string at the 7th fret with your middle finger (F#), and the E string at the 8th fret with your pinky (C). I suppose you could let the A string ring open, but that would make it sound too muddy.
  12. I am in the process of trying to learn slide. I am currently using this book. Slide Guitar In Standard Tuning by Greg Koch. Okay so maybe I'm a little biased because Greg is from Milwaukee, WI too.
  13. TrueFire also has a lot of resources for different styles of music.
  14. Call me a prude if you want, I don't think there is a need for that kind of language here.
  15. I am also in the process of reading Garage Band Music Theory. It is also pretty good. Some others I have been working on as well: Make It Stick Musicophilia Guitar Zero Amongst others.
  16. There is also Music Student 101 which is good too. They are at Music Student 101.
