  1. I'm not sure many bands made money on records. The record companies did. But in the past, bands used to tour to promote their records. Nowadays, they use their records to promote their tours.
  2. Fleetwood Mac anybody??! FYI Rick has had a few youtube videos blocked by the record company, Fleetwood Mac's "You Can Go Your Own Way" being one of them. However, it can be seen on https://flatfiv.com New ones on youtube include Rush and Stone Temple Pilots!
  3. Sweet! I bet the tone is heavenly! Enjoy...
  4. Mine came like this, uninstalled in case. Sweet as honey LP, Grog!
  5. The point is to have fun. It doesn't matter if you're strumming three chords or doing sophisticated chord progressions and soloing. I love the journey - the destination doesn't much matter to me. I play/practice before my family wakes up. I combine learning new things, just jamming to my own chord progressions, and also songwriting. Perhaps I jump around these 3 too much, but it keeps it interesting and fun. Best hobby in the world.
  6. Shout out to my Tele brother! I understand the decision. It's tough to compare to what you have already. However, I also love the look of paisleys. Have you ever seen the Nash? I think these are the ones where he found some patterned paper somewhere overseas of the original Fender paisley. https://reverb.com/item/7710095-nash-t-68p-paisley-telecaster-electric-guitar-medium-aging-t68 James Trussart has some beautiful looking ones too. http://www.jamestrussart.com/available.php?id=1 Another option is to just get a custom pick guard. I think I posted this on the other site, or maybe just in chat. Been meaning to order one for my blonde 52 RI: https://www.etsy.com/shop/mkholloway?ref=search_shop_redirect Saw a guy post his on another site and it looked hot.
  7. Friday: This Boss Katana amp does everything I want it to do. Saturday: I bought something else for my tone!
  8. I understand some people wanting to always play through a real amp. They want to be able to feel the sound waves on their chest. Perhaps because I started playing again when I didn't have my own guitar space, I had to use DI and headphones. IMHO, I like the way I can dial up any amp tone in 5 seconds. Furthermore, I can add FX to make myself sound like I'm playing in a huge auditorium or a small studio. If I were wanting to play out, I would definitely look into getting a Fractal Axe, Kemper Amp, Helix, etc. You can play those through headphones as well as hooking them up to an amp/speaker and playing live. The tones you can dial in are fantastic. I have no problem being a DI guy. Frankly, I've never gotten Amplitube to sound really good and it's expensive anyway. If you have a good DAW with amp sims, that'll take you a long way. Add Scruffham SGear for $129, and it's all you really need. By the way, for the files above, all played with my Fender '52 RI Tele. I didn't do any high distortion tones because IMHO those are easy to dial in with just about any software. The files above are 1-Amplitibe, 2-Axe, 3-Scruffham SGear.
  9. About 99% of my electric guitar playing is through headphones. I have an amp (Mesa Boogie Dual Rec) but rarely turn it on. Even when I record, I use Direct Interface (guitar directly to either my Fractal Axe or my interface and then using software). I wanted to post a quick blind shootout of a couple of different things I've used over the past five years. In the chat, I had stated that I haven't been using my Fractal Axe much. The reason why is that I am picking up my guitar constantly throughout the day, and I don't want to have to keep turning it on and off. As a result, I use software most of the time, mainly Scruffham Amps SGear. I have it set up in my DAW at all times, so when I play I just pick up the guitar, put on headphones, and I'm playing immediately. Anyhow, I recorded four riffs on 3 different setups. In alphabetical order: Axe, IK Multimedia Amplitube 4, and Scruffham Amps SGear. It's not a perfect comparison, because I used a couple of other plugins on a couple of riffs. Mainly, when using Scruffham I use a reverb plugin (Fabfilter Pro-R); the Axe has a great sounding reverb itself. Also, using Amplitube, I couldn't find a good delay preset for the 3rd riff, so I did use Soundtoys Echoboy. More info later...
  10. I have 4 brands of electric guitars and about the same for acoustics. As for electrics, it depends on the model and the year. Gibson - although there are stories of recent shoddy workmanship as morale is low right now at the company, my Gibsons (LP, SG, and ES-335) are a few years prior. They are good quality instruments, though you can tell they are mass production models. Fender - I have two Strats and two Teles, with one of the Tele's being a Custom Shop. Frankly, the mass production models seem to be high quality (though people have always said Fender makes their guitars to be workhorses). Interestingly, my Custom Shop Tele does not have the same "custom" feel as my guitars I'll mention below. I think that's because a lot of Fender's CS models are period specific. So they might be more into building guitars that feel like they were made in the 1950's - 1970's. PRS - Workmanship on all three of mine is excellent. PRS guitars are known to be perfectly set up right from the get go. I know Paul is very hands on in the factory, so I feel things could never get out of hand there. My three are US made models (HBII, DGT, & 408), and not the foreign SE models (though I've heard Paul say he visits the overseas factory often). Tom Anderson - TA's are built as custom made guitars. Not needing to be period-specific like Fenders, TA's can focus on putting the best components in their guitars. As a result, I can say it is my highest quality guitar. So in conclusion, PRS is great for production guitars that really compete well against custom builders like TA. Fenders are the workhorses, though their CS models are custom in that they reflect the period-specific vibes, not because they feel like a custom guitar builder. I might be hesitant to buy a newer Gibson, but if you can play a used one and it feels good, it might be a nice production guitar.
  11. Probably should have tuned his guitar before that chord @ 3:42! Some great rock tones in there. Sheesh, I just looked up the price. What a great value, too! Congrats!
  12. Ha - I knew what NUSHGD meant even before opening up the thread! Nice piece of axe you got there! Congrats
  13. On my early early recordings, I used the iRig 2 attachment. Works fine on an electric! Easy to practice with, too.
  14. The Toto "Rosanna" one he just posted is awesome!
  15. This is great!. Rick Beato is putting out new videos "What makes this song great." It's awesome because he plays solo'd instrument tracks so you can hear each instrument by itself. He also might discuss some theory. On the Steeley Dan "Kid Charlemagne" video, he actually hows how to play the entire solo. So far I've watched the Steeley Dan one, Tom Petty, and Police songs. Check it out! Here's a link to the first in the series where you can access the list to all of them (7 so far):
  16. Hi all! Well, having turned into a Tele fanatic, I've really wanted a Fender Custom Shop Tele. One popped up on Reverb, and the seller needed to raise cash quickly for something, so I was able to purchase this! It's a 2015 Custom Shop '63 Journeyman Relic in "faded candy tangerine." I'm not too high on relics, but this is very lightly relic'd. I did a quick recording this morning, the first one being with my '52 RI Tele and then the new CS Tele. This one has a little bit of that Tele twang in it, whereas the first one has a little more warmer tone. Okay, no more purchases for a while, unless I sell a few Gibby's or something.
  17. I still think it's weird that the piezo and non-piezo have different gauges, at least they did back then.
  18. I have a tag from the manufacturer in my case. Does yours still have one?
  19. Interesting. It conflicts with their products page: http://www.prsguitars.com/index.php/electrics/core/hollowbody_ii_2018
  20. Well, the strings PRS puts on in the factory are 11's with Wound G. I think that's what I put on mine, so I don't record any solos with it.
  21. It's like an LP and an SG had a baby, with that all 'hog body!
