@camper star spoken lyrics never hurt Bob Dylan

you have a broad selection of gear, which should give you choices to work with

might be tough for you to watch/chat in Steve’s Tuesday night Live Lessons but not impossible as we have seen some from Australia online, but Steve’s live lessons are always available on rewind

Actually it will be 10 am Wednesday morning Tokyo time. Good timing really for me. I've watched his live chats in the past and he is truly a man with a kind heart. I enjoy his live streams very much.

Thank you.

@camper star, welcome to you and good luck to you in your guitar learning journey.  You have access here to the best guitar teacher on the planet in Steve Krenz and he is always willing to answer any question you may have.  You also have a very friendly, knowledgeable group of forum members always willing to help.  Don't hesitate to exploit both these resources.

I have been to Quad Cities many time in my professional career.  What has always been interesting to me is it seems no one in the Quad Cities can explain why it is called that when there are actually more than four cities!😏😉.  Shouldn't it be septi Cities if one includes Bettendorf, Silvis and Hampton?

And @camper star all future responses will be from members far more helpful and informative than me and silliness like this😆

Thank you maton for the welcome. I left East Moline in 72 to join the AirForce. The few times I've returned, much has changed. Do you remember Sam's Bowling Alley, the Wells Fargo Lounge? If so, the Japanese girl that worked there was my wife.

Hello, My name if Jeff Dumas. I have played guitar for many years, but, have mostly been a mediocre camp-fire guitarist and have always been sorta self-conscious about playing in front of others. I guess I sorta' have a "I'm not worthy" kind of thing about my playing. I'm an old guy now, but, I've recently decided to actually learn how to play so I'm not embarrassed to play in front of people. I'm going to try to work up some songs and maybe even a set. I used to play in a band and always had other musicians around so I "got away" with a lot of just playing along with others. I'm hoping to become an active participant here and make some friends. I live a pretty quiet life here in Hot Springs Village, AR.

Hello.  My name is Jeremiah and you can call me Abe here.  I posted another thread in this forum section having not seen this thread.

To summarize, I recently got back into guitar playing after a long hiatus.  Did a lot of stretches and exercises to gain back hand and finger strength, and also got some callouses to return.  I'll try to check in often and share some stuff.  I look forward to reading and being part of discussion about music, guitar playing, and the gear we use to do it with.

Thanks for having me.  👋

Hey, I'm Anubhav — a few months back I started a guitar blog, my first post was "Guitar 101: Starting from scratch in a saturated digital world", based on the idea of how guitar players starting somewhat 10-15 years ago had the upper hand due to limited but relevant lessons.

Some other posts from my blog are:

This is Steve's, "Guitar Gathering", website.  This is his medium for promoting his guitar lessons and, to a lessor extent, for getting his name out there for session work and gigs.  But this is primarily his lesson site and its members, like me, are his students and followers.

And to be clear, you are trolling for viewers and lessons on his site?

@matonanjin To everyone: I don't recommend clicking a link from someone who has just joined. Their motives may be innocent but you should be circumspect. @Anubhav Please note, moderators are monitoring this site.

Hello to anyone reading this post. I started wanting to learn guitar in the late 2000s as a teenager. With eyes full of starry optimism, I aimed to become the next heavy metal virtuoso, following the footsteps of the likes of Dave Mustaine, Jeff Hanneman, John Petrucci, and several others. I bugged my parents to buy me an electric guitar, a few picks, an amp, and a case, which they eventually did.... aaaand I realized I was unable to play anything. I realized I needed to learn the basics. I had no access to a guitar teacher at this time. So I researched a bit online and found that Gibson's Learn and Master Guitar was highly recommended by many guitar course reviewers. I bugged my parents yet again to buy me the course (which was only legally available in DVD format at the time), and eventually they did (can't be grateful enough to my parents for this and everything else). And I started learning.... buuut.... I realized that this was much more and I mean MUCH MORE grindy than what I hoped for. Fingers in pain, chords sounding horrible, unable to play simple nursery rhymes in time with a metronome, I almost gave up. I just wanted to shred and play cool riffs man!

But since I had already spent so much of my parents' money I decided to keep grinding, until eventually, I actually started enjoying the process of learning itself. And at that point it didn't matter if I was shredding like Dave Mustaine or Kirk Hammet, I was playing for myself in my bedroom and I liked what I was playing, even if it was classical music or other pop/rock songs I'd usually never listen to . Eventually I even started being able to listen and play to some simple heavy metal riffs without tabs or sheets. I felt super accomplished. I believe I made it to around session 14 in the course.

And then. life happened

A bunch of things changed for me. The most important thing for the purpose of this post is that I basically stopped playing guitar altogether. I went through a decent amount of ups and downs in life. This year, I went through something that particularly wounded me emotionally, and I started looking for outlets. I tried going to the gym, fishing, hiking and other stuff, And while all of that was fun and great, I needed something to express my emotions, even if just to myself. Well, this brought me back to the guitar, almost 16 years later. This time I picked up an acoustic. I brushed off the dust off the L&MG course and started learning again from scratch. And boy oh boy, I started remembering the pain and the frustration, but also the enjoyment and satisfaction.

At the moment, I'm around sessions 7 & 8. I'm aiming to get through this course fully this time. I've also started a subreddit called r/learnandmasterguitar where I would like to start a community perhaps similar to here that is taking the course, but at this point it's more of a personal journal of just me going through the course. Check it out if you're bored (though I will probably be crossposting here in the L&MG section)

@Anon Hi there, and welcome to the forum. You probably noticed that your post required approval. It's a new requirement that Steve had to implement because we were recently inundated with spam from new "members" who signed up for that sole purpose. We regret the inconvenience. Such is the online world these days.

As you settle in and look around, you will find from reading that many of us have shared your experiences. You're not alone in having to start over from scratch. The same work that rewards us, humbles us. Carry on, keep us posted of your progress, and join us for Steve's Live Lessons about every other Tuesday night (7:00 pm Central).

Welcome Anon!

Glad you're here.  I enjoyed reading your learning journey.

Sorry about all of the grinding.  There's usually a fair bit of that with real learning, but I'm glad you're starting to see the payoff.

Honored to be a small part of your learning journey.

Keep working my friend.   Your music matters.

I look forward to getting to know you better.  - Steve
