  1. Someone over at our previous home, in a similar thread, turned me on to V Picks. I never thought I would like a thick pick. Now I can't use anything but a V Picks Screamer.
  2. Ice, these are all nice ones but that Em one is really cool!
  3. Way to go, Barb. I haven't started Scale Mastery but, like Randy, have them all. I started the Speed and Agility and, like you, got to the intermediate level. I can't remember what speed. 80? 84? Then, like you, got sidetracked. I keep saying I'm going to get back to it and need to. It was definitely helping the speed of my playing. Got to get bacck to it! Good for you getting back to it.
  4. Did you get the picture of the new LP  resized?  Want to send it to me?  We want to see that new axe!!!

    1. Tony cash

Tony, I don't know what you mean.  I'm on your profile page I don't see any new guitar.  I just sent you an email.  Now you have my email address.  Send me the photo by email if you want.  I'll resize it and return it to you.

  5. You adjust the pickup height on all your guitars when you purchase them! I guess that answers my question. Wow. I will take a look at trying this next week. Thank you.
  6. So, Blue Dog I guess I should answer your question. What kind of Blues do I like? I love Chicago. I love Blues. So it follows my favorite Blues should be the Chicago variety, correct? I do really like Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Mike Bloomfield, etc. But my blues taste run towards the Texas variety.
  7. Thanks Blue Dog! How many guys have covered that Albert King classic?!?! But Daniel Castro I have never heard of and he did a great job. I'm going to have to look into some of his other stuff. Gerard, thanks. That show from the Royal Albert Hall when Clapton came up on stage with JB was awesome. Further on up the Road is one of my "Bucket List Songs". Clapton with Robbie Robertson at the Rock and Roll HOF doing this song is another classic but one can't find it on YT. I have it on DVD.
  8. Every month Guitar Techniques magazine has 4 free jam tracks. They are produced by Jacob Quistgaard. He has his backing tracks available on YT. What's interesting about his is that most of them start at about a minute. During that first minute someone is soloing and there is a link to the solo lesson and tabs. Also, it takes a little looking, but most of his backing tracks come with chord charts: Here is his website where he offers his jam tracks for sale. But he has quite a few free ones there: Quistorama Jam Tracks
  9. Steve has often mentioned Coffee Break Grooves Backing Tracks. They are great. I have all their blues albums. They have 5 free ones on YouTube:
  10. Rarely will you question where you stand with John
  11. Thanks, six. I will try that. No, P90's will not fit.
  12. Tony, thanks for the links; I'll check them out. And your guitar sounds great. In addition to it sounding good there had to be a lot of satisfaction in doing this project. Great job.
  13. I use Mobile Metronome Pro. I like it a lot. I'm sure there is a free version. I think mine is called "Pro" because I must have purchased it so no ads. But it was, I'm sure, just a couple bucks.
  14. Very interesting Tony. How did you learn/know how to do this? Do you have a background in electronics related or just picked it up by YT videos, etc. I have a set of Iron Gear pickups (Texas Loco single coils & Steam Hammer humbucker) that I have been going to put in my "beater guitar" for months now. The guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica. The only step that I have completed towards doing that is to buy a soldering gun Your post is motivating me to get going. Thanks for posting this.
  15. Gorgeous guitar, Neil. A single pickup?
  16. ShadowBoxer, thanks for the response. And good point. I failed to mention in my OP that it has mini humbuckers rather than regular humbuckers as in, say, a 335.
  17. Who on here has adjusted the pickup height on your guitar? If so, do you do it routinely? I love playing the Gibson 325 in my profile photo. Love playing it. But the tone on it has always been a little bit "thin" to me. I continually adjust settings on my amp and signal chain (pedals or multi-effects amp) and it's getting better. And maybe I'm just getting to like it better. But I had posted on a different forum about trying different pickups. I still may consider that. But several people suggested before doing that I try adjusting the pickup height. It sounds like a really simple procedure with just a screwdriver. It sounds so simple, in fact, I may be able to do it. Anyone else on here done this? What kind of results have you seen?
  18. Greg and Wim, thanks for participating; getting this rolling. I wish that I could think of a song that I can do.
  19. Neil, I have no excuse for taking so long to thank you for putting together this hugely comprehensive, helpful post.
  20. Just bumping this so everyone remembers the Live Lesson with Greg Voros. And anyone anymore questions for Greg?
  21. Nothing here that is going to make you a better player. And no gear reviews. Just a fun article in Premier Guitar called Rock Rigs by the Decade. As the title would suggest the emblematic rock gear for the different decades starting in 1950. Predictably, the 1950's were represented by Gibson 335; the 60's by the Strat and the 70's by the Les Paul. I'll let you look at the other decades and the amps and pedals that went with. Just a fun read. If that link doesn't take you right to the article (I don't know if it will) then go to page 70.
