  1. It has been brought to my attention, thank you @bruster, that some members are pinning their exact address/location on the member map.  We want to know where members are from.  It is fun/interesting to see our membership from around the world.  But it is probably good enough to narrow the location down to city and state/country.

When I first pinned my location I was asked if I want to use my current location and I answered "Yes".  It put the pin right on my house.  A couple days later I rethought this and moved the pin to somewhere in Omaha.  I'm not even sure where I have it.  I hope I'm in a nice neighborhood.

The member map is only accessible to members.  So perhaps I'm suggesting excess caution.  But if you have the pin right on your house you may want to consider moving it.  And, obviously, it is entirely your decision how precise you want your pin to be.

Should you decide to move it there is an easy option to do so.

  2. And what you should do UncleHammy is have one of the mods close the Monthly Challenge each month so people can't post late  facepalm.gif. But I have been meaning to contribute something for a long time.

Day Tripper by the Beatles. This is definitely "The Old".  The band that I played in that I posted the picture of played this.  So it really took me back.  The "New" is I have  been trying to learn this for decades (or what seems like).  Started working this in The Song Hits.  Steve, of course, gave me the basics, the riff and the rhythm.  Then I found a couple of sources for the bridge and solo.  The backing track is from Karaoke Version.

It is not where I would like it.  But I came in from the barn, hence the clothes, and recorded it and I'm moving on.  Probably to "Oh, Pretty Woman".

The B chord (going from the C# to the B)  in the chorus didn't ring clearly. I missed at least one note in the solo and towards the end I really got  behind the beat.  But here it is. Warts and all.

Played with the new PRS, into a POD HD500X (with overdrive and a little chorus) into Fender Blues Jr.  The backing track is played on the Boss Eband JS-10.

Not sure why you are sweat'n it Ron. There always seems to be this stigma with guitarists that the best will only play standing and from memory. Long ago I decided that I will play and perform in a manner which suits me. During a 10 song set I will sit on a stool for 8 of them, only standing when I  share a mic with another player. Play for yourself first, and go slowly, trust your own skills.

One extra thought since we were talking about straps in another link. I have noticed that an extra width strap of 3" is much more comfortable. After using the 3" strap, the 2" feels like it is digging in.

    Henk

Thanks Henk!  I don't know that I'm sweat'n it.  I probably sound like it.  I'll never gig so don't need  to stand.  I just know that standing is different than sitting and probably, maybe, learning to play both ways might make be better.  Maybe that's false logic.  And who knows?  And, yeah, those Lakota strap I've ordered have been 3" and a huge difference in comfort compared to some of the 2" I had used.  Those 2" ones are laying around somewhere never to go on a guitar again.

    Thanks again.

  4. With each session.  Session 1 may not have jam along material; I can't remember.  Each session has songs  at the end of it to practice the concepts that you have learned in that session.  The end of session 2 has "Ode To Joy" and "Jingle Bells".  Those are both on CD 1 and "Ode to Joy" is tracks 2, 3 & 4 and "Jingle Bells" is tracks 5, 6, & 7.    I'm currently working Session 13, "Playing the Blues" and at the end of it are "Jamming The Blues" and "Johny's E Blues".  I am working playing along, frustrating myself ;), with Jamming The Blues.

I might be in the market for a strap, but the reason is one of the straps I bought a few years ago proved to be a bit too supple/soft.

It still work's fine, but the slots for the tail have sort of stretched out since the leather is so soft, and it looks kind of crappy.  I have a couple of much stiffer straps that are fine comfort wise so I'm fine with a bit stiffer leather so long as it retains its shape.

So my question is, exactly how "soft" are they and how do they behave over time?

    Six,

I posed your question to Kenny, the owner, and this is the response I received:

"Thanks Ron.. sometimes if one of our straps comes from 'belly' leather that might happen.. but no worries.. we offer a lifetime guarantee.. so if you or he ever experiences any sort of issue, it can be exchanged for a brand new one! thanks so much, Kenny"

I don't know if this answers your question or not.

Wow, nice find. I love playing my PRS II hollowbody, and yes it is ultra-light. For those of us who have had back surgery as myself, a wonder to behold....or should I say , just to hold. Love it and yours is a stunner!. Enjoy and congrats.

Greg, I thought that I had posted my reason for wanting a light guitar but looking at my OP I didn't.   After 3 spinal fusions I can't play standing for more than a few minutes with my any guitar that I currently have.  I know that I need to play some standing and it's going to be a train wreck when I do it.    When I get a strap for the new one it is going to happen.

People don't realize even lifting a heavy guitar, like my LP,  to my lap to play seated is painful.  But I don't know why I'm telling you this!

Some I'm loking forward to getting back to practicing standing up.  But dreading what it is going to sound like:o:(

Six, as you described it they they might be too soft.  Any answer that I gave you wouldn't be much help as I haven't had them long enough or use them enough.  I don't gig so mine haven't seen that much abuse.  @Oldjock's response is much more relevant than anything I might offer.  The other thing you could do is contact Lakota Leather's owner.  I have found him to be very responsive to queries by email.  He is #1 a player himself (I think primarily acoustic) and #2 surely he has users that have had them long enough and abuse them enough to give an objective answer.  His phone is 1 (865) 963-9303 or you can go to his page and there is the typical "contact us" form.

I finally got to record me Peavey Classic 30. Here is a couple samples from my Sound Check.

The first is just a simple rock rhythm I came up with last night. Maybe someday it will be a song, but for now it is what it is...

The second track adds the Flashback Delay pedal. I am just improvising for the fun of it!!!

Nice Randy.  I really like the rock rhythm especially.

I have a tag from the manufacturer in my case.  Does yours still have one?

Sheez.  Why didn't I think of that?  (Please don't answer that.)  It came with 10's, as @V7#5b9 suggested it might.  I think it sounds good and so I'll keep them on for a while.  When I need to replace them I might try some wound ones, wound G, that type just as an educational experience.  I'll keep 9s on the Strat and Pauls to work bending.

    Thanks all.

  10. There have been a couple posts on here recently asking direction on purchasing an acoustic guitar.  I don't think those posts were actually asking about beginner guitars.  But I saw this article and thought it might be of interest to some that are considering a "starter/beginner" acoustic guitar.

And if you look at that story there is also a link to "How To Choose the Best Acoustic Guitar For You"

  11. I am ordering a strap for my new guitar when it occurred to me that there may be some new members on here that haven't heard of Lakota Guitar Straps (Lakota Leathers).

I have three of them now and they are unbelievably comfortable.  All are made from buffalo and should last forever.  They do come with a lifetime warranty.  There are several other members on here that also use them and have commented favorably about their experience with these straps.

Possibly most importantly, all straps are made by members of the Lakota Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.  The Pine Ridge "Rez" is the poorest county in the United States.  Any purchase will, in a small way, help people in desperate need of economic stimulation.  If you are, or will be, looking for a new strap(s) at least look at their product/website.

Now all I have to do is decide which color will go best with Whale Blue!9_9

(I have absolutely no connection to Lakota Leathers other than I like their product.)

Well if we are going to open up the time capsule .......

If we are going to open up a time capsule!!!!   This is from about 1964.  I'm the guy with the bass, far left (stage far right.)   I don't remember the circumstances that I had this Hofner Bass for the photograph because I actually played a Fender Bass.  I just vaguely remember borrowing it for the photo.

  13. I have no idea what strings are on my new PRS Hollowbody.  I don't remember where, not here, someone was talking about using heavier strings on a hollowbody for the tone.   You hollowbody guys @NeilES335 and especially PRS hollowbody guys,  @CapM @gotto, what strings do you use?  Heavier than what you would use on a solid body?

I'm really curious because on my Strat and PRS Pauls I have gone to 9's at least temporarily.  While working on bending I wanted to have something a little lighter while developing the skill and finger strength.

  14. Why are you wanting a parlor guitar?  The guitar that I had posted about getting my granddaughter was a parlor guitar.  A really nice beginner guitar but I felt it probably would have been a little small for me.  And I'm a smaller guy.

And it's always difficult for people to make suggestions without having some idea what your budget, roughly, is.
