I will volunteer to do the bass track and have a go at the mixing. I would really appreciate it if you guys could give me an opinion on my mix at the end as I am a real beginner at this!

Great rhythm track Fretless. This is exactly the kind of example that I needed to hear to get me out of my beginner strumming! How did you do the verses, did you use muting?

OK folks I have had an idea. ? I have volunteered to do task number 1 which is to decide on the key, song structure, tempo and which chords will be used. This means that I can work with anyone who wants to have a go at doing the rhythm guitar and tailor it to meet their needs (i.e. you can choose the tempo and what chords you are able to play). ?All we need now is a volunteer to do the rhythm guitar. Come and join in with the fun!?

??Let's work together to write and record another song. It will be another team effort and anyone at any level is encouraged to join in. ?? Please volunteer to do the tasks below shown in black. I will pick up any tasks that do not get volunteered for and I will help anyone who wants to join in. ? One of the great things about working with others in this way is that we end up with a song that has been crafted by a pool of ideas. I always find it a useful and fun learning experience! ? The production tasks: 1) Nutty1 will Choose a tempo (bpm), time signature (eg 4/4), key (eg. C major) and a song structure (eg. intro, verse, chorus, bridge outro) with bars and chords. 2)Fretless will Record a rhythm guitar track. 3) Gotto will Record a drum track. 4) Nutty1 Record a bass guitar track. 5) Fretless will Write some lyrics and choose a title for the song. 6) Fretless and Nutty1 will Record the vocals. 7) Nutty1 will Record a lead guitar track (solos, fills). ?Nutty 1 will Mix and master the song, this includes providing intermediate mixes for collaborators who want a specific mix in order to or record their parts. Please note: Please record your track in 24 bit and, if you can, at 44.1kHz, saving your track as a wave (WAV) file. If you cannot do that then do the best quality you can. If you do not have any recording software you can use Audacity, it is free to download and free to use. Audacity is available for Windows, GNU/Linux and Mac. We have a shared online space for uploading and sharing the audio files, I will send a PM with the link to new contributors. If you have already done a particular audio task (ie. drums, bass, guitar, vocals) in the previous collaboration then you are welcome to do so again but do please let others have a chance to choose first. Please do not negatively criticise others' contributions P.s.? If anyone wants to play rhythm guitar but is worried that the chord structure and tempo may be too difficult for them, then please reply to this thread or send me a private message. I wholeheartedly encourage beginners and anyone who is new to home recording. We need all experience levels in these collaborations. Hello Steve, this feels like a big lightbulb moment. ? I now realise that this has been in my head for months. The thing I really really want is a workout series that will help me to improve my timekeeping for strumming. One of the things that I love about your fretboard workouts is that you "sit with us" and actually do the workout with us. I find that is much better for me than just being told how to do it as it makes me actually do it! I can envisage it split into different levels with a beginner one using easy to do open chords and easy strumming patterns starting slow and getting a bit faster. Perhaps an intermediate workout with more difficult patterns. Anyway, these are only ideas. ???

A lot of people will use their spare time to sit in front of a television and watch someting just because it is on. Most of the time they do not enjoy the program and it achieves nothing. It does not feed their soul or activate their brain or give them any sense of purpose. I am battling with osteoarthritis in both of my hands and I also have trigger finger to cope with, this means that I am now unable to do things on the guitar that I could a year ago. But I am never going to give up. I am finding different ways of doing things. Yes I will never be a great guitarist BUT I am a guitarist and it feels good, it feeds my soul and my brain in a way that television never could.

I would also like to thank you Steve for this wonderful forum and for all of the superb learning resources that you have produced. I know that I would not be a guitar player without you!??? I also think that something along the lines of the "Gibson's skills house" would be great. I like the fact that the fretboard workouts are bought as a one off payment and will still be mine in a years time as opposed to a subscription running out while my arthritis is playing up or if life gets in the way of guitar playing. I think the original L&M course still stands strong and it would be a shame to re-write it (who would want to re-paint the Monalisa?) or to spoil a good relationship with L&M. Perhaps L&M would be amenable to putting a link to this site in their guitar web pages to route more people here, as this site does advertise and provide support for the L&M course? They could freeze the existing guitar forums and say that the course is supported by a new forum with the same wonderful teacher. My learning curve at the moment is figuring out how to get rhythm guitar and lead guitar to fit into a song. What makes a good rhythm guitar part and how should it interact with the drums and bass parts? How do you put riffs into a song? What makes a good chord progression for a song, how do you make the verse, chorus and bridge sound different bur similar enough to fit together? How do you build momentum in a song? You may have answered these in your live lessons already but as I am in the UK I am always asleep at 1am. ?
