  1. Thanks all, I'm very pleased with it
  2. Its pretty much done A coat of black paint and the Velcro applied. All I need to do now is arrange the pedals I want and tidy the cables. All in all I'm pretty pleased with it. Total cost around £7 ($10)
  3. Thanks only one of the shelves used so I can make another if I want to. So far the total cost is £2.50 ($3.5) plus some paint I had in the shed anyway.
  4. I thought this was a great demo of what you can do with a looper
  5. Boards cut to length and reattached to the side pieces and a coat of primer
  6. I only have one guitar that's too valuable to work on myself. I get way more pleasure from turning a cheap instrument into something very personal and playable. Good luck with your strat
  7. Might be that the neck needs shimming in the pocket. I did a similar thing on a cheap Ibanez I have and its perfect now. Could also be that the frets need levelling. I bought some good levelling tools a while ago and learned to level and dress my own frets, which has proved invaluable. A cheap fret rocker from ebay would probably reveal the culprit.
  8. I know what you mean lol. I have an Epi Special that I've spent way more on than the guitar is worth. Still, I love tinkering with stuff, its half the fun for me
  9. As I have a few pedals laying around and having just bought a new one, I thought I'd make up a pedal board. A quick check online showed me how expensive pedal boards are, even the most basic ones are around £30 ($42). After a bit of surfing around, I came across something that is apparently a "thing" in the UK, even amongst the pro's. Known as the "Gorm" or "Hejne" pedal board, its made from a pair of shelves from Ikea costing £5 ($7) and some Velcro strips. Total less than £10 ($14) , so I ordered them. The main benefit, apart from being inexpensive is that you can make it to exactly the size you want. I'll let you know how I get on over the next few days
  10. I'm looking forward to trying it out. As I'm using an amp again, and I have a few pedals lying around, I thought I might as well make myself a pedal board. Probably a bad idea as I remember how addictive pedal shopping can be lol. Still, its all good fun right?
  11. Its a slippery slope lol I'm just going to call it a treat for the Katana as its been so good all week
  12. The power of advertising! ah well ...I'll let you know how I get on with it.
  13. I'm a Bob for sure and tend to be very impulsive with guitars, not always with good results. I'm a Ben when it comes to amps though.
  14. I remember buying lay it on the line as a teenager for the b side ...suitcase blues I believe. Happy memories
  15. I think you're going to enjoy it. The more I play mine the more impressed I get. I would recommend that you download the Boss Tone studio app and have a look at some of the presets in the library there as they make a great starting point for tweaking to your liking.
  16. I reckon it would be perfect for that.
  17. After spending a lot longer trying it out I continue to be very impressed with it. The tones are extraordinary for a solid state amp. It really does feel and sound like it has tubes in it. I'll see if I can get a small video done over the next few days. The amp does have limitations. On this 50w version you can only store 4 "patches" on board at one time and there's a limit to only 3 effects at any one time out of the 55 built in boss effects. This is fine for me as I tend to stick with just a few sounds but it might prove limiting for some. According to Andertons, it does however take pedals very well so that would be a way around this restriction. The built in effects, being BOSS are excellent of course. Also as Blue Dog mentioned, the acoustic amp is great so it would be a great choice for someone that wants an amp that does more or less everything. For the price I can't see how anything can beat this at the moment. I'll update more when I get more used to it.
  18. First impressions after 3 hours are excellent. It has 3 power settings, 50w, 25w and 0.5w which will easily cover anything I might need it for. The 0.5w is perfect for living room playing. It sounds and feels like a tube amp and is very versatile with options for anything between acoustic and metal. I'm particularly enjoying the blues sounds and it does a mean Angus Young too This is way better than my little Blackstar in my opinion and most certainly a keeper. I'm not quite sure if it will totally replace my beloved PODxt yet but it might
  19. Don't you love it when new gear arrives?
  20. I use drones quite a lot ...including that one
  21. I do all my own fret work these days including levelling and dressing and to take the frets down to nothing says to me that the guy you took the lp to didn't really understand what he was trying to achieve. In your case a simple truss rod tweak would have been all that was needed. I'm sorry that happened to you. As others have said, Mr voros's maintenance DVD would be a wise investment and afterwards you will be able to make these small tweaks yourself with confidence and understand why you are doing them.
  22. I've found it depends on the neck of your guitar and how big the change in guage is. If you're just going up or down one guage you should be fine but if you do need to have anything adjusted, it should be quite obvious straight away with buzzing strings etc.
