  1. Dont skip s10! Along with the fingerstyle playing are some very important "theory" concepts that must be mastered. Experiment with various thumb and finger picks if thats what will work for you. Its not a "one size fits all". Dont miss out on overcoming a perceived roadblock. You can do it! p.s. I'm missing the tip of my indexfinger ... hasnt stopped me.
  2. @Dan Brown Thanks for the video report... a very cool product. The way of the future I expect. I wonder why some major guitar manufacturers haven't (to my knowledge) included this feature in their guitars, instead of wonky robot tuners and a confusing array of tone circuits?
  3. Hi @ozy Let me add my welcome to Guitar Gathering and the home of Learn and Master Guitar, as well as Fretboard Workouts! Perhaps you'd like to visit our Welcome Page, introduce yourself (further) and tell us about your guitar learning goals. We're here to help. All the Best! NeilES335 - Moderator
  4. @flobbadob I'm at "about" Session 18 also, and I concur with @Eracer_Team-DougH. I've found that course LMG isnt so "chromatic" in nature at this point, but rather a set of skills to work on. So I venture to other learning tools or resources as well, like Steve's Fretboard Workout Jazz, and Jamie Abersold books, Justin Sandercoe, and Frank Vignolo on Truefire's Jazz Learning Path.
  5. @Amy Greenblatt Beautifully done Amy! I enjoyed that! Timing is spot on and totally error free. (I'm envious;-)... Thank you for sharing with us and we hope to see you post your songs and comments here often. As for video, I dont believe this affects the website storage here, so you can continue to go that route if you wish, (as long as the video is of YOU) . The audio file via SoundCloud is suggested as it creates an account and a place to store all your recorded music in one place, and is easily accessed by those using a variety of devices. (and for those who are video shy or dont have that technology) All the Best NeilES335 - Moderator.
  6. Welcome to Guitar Gathering and the Learn and Master Guitar Fingerstyle course! Perhaps you'd like to introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your guitar and music experience, goals and dreams. You can do so here; Regards; NeilES335 - Moderator
  7. Dave; Thanks a lot for the photos! As co-moderator, it's nice to see the set up on the other side of the camera.
  8. @Old Guy good review.. I kind of liked the tone of the neck pickup... a bit darker as you say. Just a matter of taste I guess. ps you don't look that "old" to me ?
  9. Thanks for the opinion...my intention was and is to go with ProToolsFirst. I figured why learn something else supposed to be easier and then have to learn a better software later.
  10. @RichLich Welcome back Rich! Good to see you join us here... Post often and let us know how you're doing with your guitar journey. All the Best; NeilES335 - Moderator
  11. You're doing great...just stick with it! While Steve has said the "You're ready to move on etc..." is a general guideline, I'd encourage you to be sure you can complete both the Lesson Book and the Bonus Resource book for each session to a point where it exceeds the minimum requirement; so you feel that you are very comfortable with the whole Session. This will pay off later. The Bonus Resource isn't intended to be more difficult, just a bit more thorough. And don't forget to use the play along Jam Tracks too. ps great to see you chime in here... please continue to let us know how you're doing!
  12. Well, my gear arrived today ? Now the fun begins.... wow is there ever a lot of software to download! A word of advice... allow yourself plenty of time to download the included software, ProToolsFirst or Ableton Live Lite.... This can take hours, depending on your download speed. For me ProTools shows it will take 3 hours! More time for the other stuff... READ THE MANUAL! Windows users must download the Drivers too, first. Further note; Well Ive been at the downloading off and on for 3 days now... (my download speed is average) Along with the DAW of your choice you can install about 8 different Plug In suites (all Free included) .Each one requires a new account with a different deveoper, log - in, password verification, installer, download, activation ( throught a ILock Plug in manager app) then activation in the DAW itself. (that bit i havent figured out yet) Fortunately they are all integrated, but without online chat support Id be euchred. SO...dont expect to be recording 1st day with all the toys installed ... then figure out how to use the DAW....(patience Neil...)
  13. @Old Guy Welcome to our Guitar Gathering family! We"re glad you're here! (That was me on Live Lessons..Im the "mod" there too) . Feel free to explore and engage with our community members , Chat Live in the ChatRoom, post in relevant topics and visit our resources area. Being a seasoned player you may wish to post your recordings too. Happy Tunes? NeilES335 - Moderator
  14. Wow... We're approaching the 1st Anniversary of the Guitar Gathering Website! I hope you'll agree that it's been a big success with over 1500 members signed on, and a dedicated group of regulars. I've become aware that there are quite a number of members who read the site but seldom, if ever post. We're glad you're here! If that's you, why not chime in once in a while? If you're a visitor, why not sign up as a member? There is NO COST to join, NO MONTHLY /ANNUAL FEE, ALL FREE! We're not heavily commercial either and won't bug you with endless emails selling stuff. (Very helpful resources are offered from time to time at very reasonable cost). Going forward, Steve Krenz has mentioned to me that he has some more ideas in mind for further improving this site. With this in mind, DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS? PLEASE LET US KNOW, WE'RE HAPPY TO CONSIDER AND IMPLEMENT THEM WHEREVER FEASIBLE. As Steve K says... Thanks for being a part of our great Guitar Gathering Family!
  15. Same as the "Octave Method", just a different name. This has been my "method" for a while, but of course it's not perfect... you have to remember the 1/2 step on the B string. And rather than just knowing the note name in it's given position, you are always referring to the 6th or 5th string. BTW... what a classy guy .. (not). Compare the presentation of this video to Steve Krenz's video's.(No comparison really)
  16. Why bother when we have a far superior site here?!
  17. Great method. Im currently at S17 on LMG so this is very relavant to me. I know the fret board reasonably well as @Plantsman13 says through time and use and using the "octave method " but with a few gaps in the zone above 5th frey on the D,G,&B string. This will help. Thanks @Wim VD1 This will also be handy identifying and or building chords.
  18. Barb; I have not been, but I recall reading the dorm rooms are double (shared). Clean but very simple ...I believe you'd be paired up with another lady if you havent arranged this yourself with another attendee.
  19. Any NEW members that would like to introduce themselves and tell us about your guitar learning journey?
  20. How about it folks? Would anyone else like to vote and /or share your experience with the Learn and Master Guitar Program, before I close the poll?
  21. Sorry I don't have an opinion of these amps per se; but after watching the review of the Voc VT40X it looks pretty complicated to me. Are you a person who likes to fiddle with settings looking for a certain tone? How LOUD do you want it? I learned that the wattage isnt necessarily indicative of volume, nor is digital vs tube or speaker size For home use personally I'd think a 10 " speaker is plenty. There are some small amps with smaller speakers that have great sound. My only advice is; KISS.... (Keep It Simple Silly) Here is Sweetwater's Amp Buying Guide; I hope this helps some; https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/guitar-amp-buying-guide/
