  1. It's been a good while since I've been able to spend time in person playing music with others, certainly like many others. Last weekend I met a couple of friends in the park outdoors, distanced and we shared a couple hours trading songs on a warm sunny afternoon. It felt great, and we may have talked as much as played but having in-person social contact again with other players was a joy. Sunday my jam group will begin to meet again as well. We take turns leading songs, everything from bluegrass to Pink Floyd, alternating electric and acoustic weeks. Great musicians all, I manage to hang in on most songs well enough. Regardless, a great learning time with plenty of laughs and fun. Lastly, my garage band hopes to gather in 2-3 weeks to begin to prepare for a gig in August, my high school 70th birthday party. Ouch...that is hard for me to grab hold of age-wise. Oh, and July has me flying to Nashville for another Guitar Gathering. Life-on-hold is beginning to unfold again for me. I hope it happens soon for all of us..... Greg,

  2. Good article, thanks Diane. Personally, I really don’t like most of the modern music scene and the songs produced. Nothing memorable. Perhaps I am a creature of the sixties and seventies when music was fantastic and the bands were better, IMHO. Henk

  3. From the Guardian: ... Popular music’s centre of gravity has undeniably moved towards solo artists, at least when it comes to serious commercial success. This paradigm shift has been obvious for a while now (“What happened to all the bands?” asked Rostam Batmanglij after leaving Vampire Weekend in 2016. “Is it just that bands are corny now?”) and has accelerated across genres. ...

  4. Welcome Eduardo! I believe that what you are describing would be a good way to learn the fretboard, but there are as many ways to learn it as there are people :) One of my teachers taught me to make up games, like playing a certain scale on a random part of the neck and reciting the notes out loud as I played them. I think the "3 note on a string" exercises are good ones too, that break you out of the shapes we usually see in our practice. Another thing that's really helpful for me are the triad courses on the Guitar Gathering YouTube channel. There are Major, Minor, and Seventh triad videos with links to worksheets. I have been using these recently and they have definitely helped me know the fretboard better. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

  6. The one amp I wish I had purchased along the gear acquisition way, was the Princeton Reverb. A bandmate has one....very, very versatile , clean or driven. I can certainly empathize with your spinal condition. SRV. I am doing everything I can to prevent, forestall a second surgery and spinal fusion. Best of wishes. Greg

  7. Gonna go check out a Yamaha NTX700 crossover on my next shopping trip to Myrtle Beach. I like the Yamahas. Sound is pretty good and very playable in my experience. And the price is right😁. Don't wanna drop a ton of coin, then let it sit in the corner. Thanks for the responses! https://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha/NTX700-Acoustic-Electric-Classical-Guitar.gc?pdpSearchTerm=yamaha ntx700&tNtt=ntx700&tAt=item&tAv=Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar
