  2. Hi everyone So my husband took off from work on my day off two weeks ago. He wanted to surprise me with a trip to the Martin Guitar Factory. A little back story. This past March the month before my dad died. My husband and I went to the Martin Factory. I was just beginning to play guitar again. When my husband saw this one hanging on the wall he asked me to play it. He offered to buy it right then and there. I said No. I got all practical on him ..you know (I don't need another guitar yada yada yada) so we didn't get it....fast forward to now. Ever since we didn't buy it I was sorry. I didn't know my dad would die the next month and now I regret that I didn't get to play it for him....so when my husband said "You know Maria if you were like a normal woman and liked jewelry no one would have a problem if I bought you another piece of jewelry but because it's a guitar SOMEONE always has a comment" "WHAT do you need another guitar for?" I'm sure you all have heard that if you own several guitars. So that day I said YES! i loved what he said and I didn't want that moment to pass again. AND as he put it how many people can say that they got a Martin Guitar right from the factory? It was a magical day! Ever since I brought it home I'm playing even more guitar. I told my husband that I feel like I'm playing better with this guitar and he said "I never heard you play like this period." Isn't that crazy? SO here is my new baby...and she smells sooooo good!! Maria ps thanks for letting me share my joy

  3. @Wim VD1 Fabulous Wim! I also love the way you manage to creatively stretch the theme to fit your songs, a bit like they do on X-Factor 😆 Ian

  4. Topic: Learning a Jazz Standard Ever wanted to learn Jazz but weren't sure where to start? Jazz has a standard repertoire, or group of songs, called "standards". This lesson shows you how to learn a Jazz standard - starting with the melody, the chords to use, and then how to approach soloing. I'll show you the exact process I go through when I'm learning a new song. We will be using the standard "All the Things You Are" as our sample tune. You can download that here... 6. Danny Boy has been performed by many great female artists like Mahalia Jackson, Johan Baez, Judy Garland and Sinead O'Connor, but it is the version of Eva Cassidy, accompanied by acoustic guitar, that is my favorite. The arrangement I learned over the past weeks is from Steve's L&M Fingerstyle course session 4. Thanks for listening, Wim.

  7. Hi all, here is my recording of Hey Jude mistakes included. I wish I had more time to practice but like the rest of the world I've been busy preparing for eventual lockdown. This arrangement is from Hal Leonard's 'Fingerpicking Beatles'. Keep Safe everyone.

  8. It's amazing what the Beatles could do with two chords and a riff. They performed this song in the key of G but that's too high for me to sing, so I did it in E. I'm not entirely happy with the vocal mix but I couldn't spend any more time on it. Thanks for listening.
