  1. Hi all, im a 37 year old professional photographer living in the United Arab Emirates, and ive always loved all kinds of music. My primary outlet is through DJing (Techno and House). Ive tried playing guitar 2 times before this in my life, once at 18 and once at 30. This is my third attempt! Ive never gotten past being able to bang out a line of an Oasis song or something. Ive never learned an entire song not once. Ive never finger picked, only ever strummed so I am going into the course as a total beginner in terms of playing actual notes. I think ive quit in the past because I had no structure to learning. I would look up a song I like, learn the chords and try to play it only to discover I sucked at it without really knowing why, which killed motivation. I think this course is just the ticket. Im almost done with session 4 at the time of writing and just get more enthusiastic as each practice session passes. Very glad to be here.

  2. "Green Onions" has been used extensively in television, film and advertising, so I am glad that it fits into the challenge for this month. I tried to mimic the organ by plucking chords. It was a real fun one to learn. Wim.

  3. This is my first attempt to submit a song. The song is Blue Bayou from the movie The Man who Fell to Earth with David Bowie. The song was recorded on my iPhone. Henk Blue Bayou.m4a

  4. Over the years Steve Krenz has created some wonderful short video lessons and tips, called Guitar Tips, Guitar Tips of the Pros, and Tip of the Month. Here is a selection of those videos from YouTube; (in no particular order, titles are at the top of each video. Not a comprehensive list, so if you find others, feel free to add any not already inserted here) I hope you find them as useful and enjoyable as I have!

  5. @Funkcanna doing well with Minuet in C.. remember it's a Waltz type of song so it has a bit swing to it 1/4, 1/8-1/8, 1/8-1/8 per measure almost a triplet .. spoken like tr-pl-et,, Well actually, first beat is longer, than the rest; so trp-ll-et as Neil says.. Session 4 is a very good time to break out the metronome .. yeah I rarely use one.. but you'll need it for future recordings once you get the multitrack recordings like the other members put together in the 'Recording Challenge' Section

  6. @Funkcanna Great job with Minuet C! @S Bach I suggest using a metronome and tapping your foot to help with the timing issues, rests etc. Try for a flowing melodic line once you get the tune "down" . Eventually you" ll be playing this from memory.

  7. Looks like Gibson may be closing this link. I did find it again on what may be a spanish site so if you want any of these great lessons I would try to print or download any that look interesting to you. Not really into all of his slide guitar lessons at this time, however there are many other lessons that are pretty good. Many of them like Steve's pro tips that he did for a while. See if this link works. http://espanol.gibson.com/Lessons/Arlen-Roth-Lessons/Search.aspx Kind of worried if it is secure or not, (does't say https)

  8. I agree. I went back to earlier lessons and they were a breeze after session 4 and not even attempting the earlier ones for a while. If anyone is interested ive decided to post vids of the sessions. I know it really helped me seeing people play these on youtube. Its definitely far from perfect obviously but I thnk im happy for being 3 weeks into the course (2 of which have been spent solely on session4!!) 100% open to feedback!

  9. @Ralphonzo - I will leave it to Steve to answer if Johnny will be teaching at the conference. He did play and instruct at one of the main sessions last summer - and it was fantastic. Then he stayed around for about an hour after his session and talked to us and showed off his new guitar (which he let each of us handle and play). He is an awesome guy.
