What kind of strings did you have when you broke the E string?

That's what I had on it.  NYXL 9's.  I'm using 9's while developing bending.  In the not too distant future I'm sure I'll go back to 10's.  I have 9's on my Strat and PRS Paul's.  10's on everything else.

@matonanjin Yeah, I think you should stick with 10's. The 9's are not going to help you bend 10's; you will have to re-learn your technique when you move back to the thicker string. I have never broken a string. I always stick with the string gauge that came with the guitar.

I think Fender ships with 9's.  At least they used to.

I'm surprised you haven't broken a string.  This is my second.  I remember vividly breaking my first one.  It was years ago not long after starting to learn.  I was so thrilled and proud!  ?

@matonanjin The best way to know is to check your user manual, or the Fender website. I notice they recommend Bullet strings which would exclude pretty much every other string made. I changed strings on my friends Strat and it had no problem with standard 10's. You can use many types and gauges of string, but the guitar may need to be adjusted for different gauges. Almost 10 years now and no string breaks.
