David Gilmour’s black strat was retired in 1986. It was on display at a Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas Tx. It was unprotected and apparently anyone could access it. When he got it back in 1990 it was damaged and the only original part was the pickup selector switch. 

When I read that I was rather shocked. It would have become a million dollar guitar. I was also surprised his net worth was only $ 180,000,000.

What’s more surprising is Buddy Guy’s net worth is “only” 2.5 million

I have the book, signed by his guitar tech. Such an interesting read. The Hard Rock Cafe was apparently under the impression that they owned it and Gilmour had quite a battle getting it back.
