Brief Stringjoy article on their top five studio guitarists. I thought there would be more unfamiliar names.

Hmm odd article with nobody new,

sounds like StringJoy ‘phishing’ article

I know StringJoy has been pounding the Les Paul group I’m on on Facebook,

they have a string tree to add to the headstock to an LP claiming it stabilizes tuning issues on Les Paul’s

and today I just saw someone “try” StringJoy” strings on said Facebook group.

wonder if they’ve done this for “free advertising “ 🤔

Doug, I'm not sure what you're saying here nor do I know what you mean by a "phishing" article.

Don't all  companies publish articles such as this for free advertising?

Anyway, to the article they never really said their criteria for inclusion in the article.  They didn't say that it was the comparative number of albums the different guitarists were included on.  So apparently it was some very subjective measurement of playing ability by the authors or Stringjoy executives.  The article did hint at this with "these players are some of the best guitarists of all time", suggesting it was on getting around the fretboard.

Any list like this usually spawns arguments about why 1) someone was included that clearly shouldn't have been or 2) why someone should have been included that wasn't.   Here is my contribution to that😉

I have no idea how many albums, a lot of gold and multi-platinum ones, Tim Pierce has played on.  But he has been on a lot of them.  I don't know if he has a list on his website of if there is a list elsewhere.  But if you watch any of his YT videos, his solo ones or maybe ones with Rhett Shull or Rick Beato he will often casually mention ones that he has been on.  Many that are in our collections that we didn't realize he contributed to.  And if you watch any of those same YT videos he is a phenomenal player.   I'm not saying he should necessarily bump any of the five off the list that are on there.  But certainly Tim should be included in any conversation about great session guitarists.

I was just meaning they put out an article with a title catchy enough you end up on their website

once there you go oh, ok I read this what else does StringJoy do

you may end up thinking oh there’s stuff selling here that you may overlook else where and buy from them

hence phished into their sale site

Any "Greatest" list is bound to generate some energetic discussion.   Just look at the fallout from Rolling Stone's list of 200 Greatest Singers.       I came away from the article with 3 observations.   First - it's great to see any recognition of studio musicians.   We've all heard their music but most of the time never knew their names.    Secondly - Other than Chet Atkins, Nashville studio musicians were woefully under-represented (Where was Brent Mason?)     And finally - someone needs to tell them how to spell "Campbell".
