Calluses on my fingertips are a cause of unwanted string noise when changing chords. Any advise on dealing with these?

    Wim.

    Hey @Wim VD

What i do for calluses is, when practicing new material they will build up very fast. I like to buff my fingertips and after that i use an alcohol free lotion, and when playing i make sure and use fret ease.  This seems to work for me.

    @Texaspackerfan,

Thanks, Danny. I wanted to record some songs with solo's before ending Session 19 and moving on to the final Session 20. I am working on Fleetwood Mac's Albatross now. Do you have plans to finalize Session 19 soon?

    Wim.

    @Wim VD

I will forever be working on solos. lol! but on a serious note, I'm going to keep working on 19 through the summer along side other supplemental material then move on to 20 this fall.  Ive adding chicken picking and slide guitar so that has slowed me down.

Sweet, great song! never heard it before  but just added it to my iTunes collection. Impressive performance, Danny, and I hear you about lack of recording time. I almost need a vacation from my music commitments as I am dealing with 2 separate musical ensembles learning totally different songs for each, and an evening blues jammers class at a local community college. I don't know how my wife is putting up with it, but she's a sweetheart.

Congrats at a very nice recording. I hope we hear more of them from you.

    Greg

Thanks Greg, and wow you are a busy man. I don't know how you do it! I admire your dedication.

Danny, do I understand this correctly?!?  You did the drums, bass, ryth guitar, lead guitar and backup vocals?  really amazing job.  I really enjoyed this.

    Thank you, Matonanjin.

I did, its hard to get everyone together when i record. I played drums in JR high and High School. I didnt pick up the guitar tell later in life, and when i did playing bass was part of the learning process.

  5. Howdy folks,

Been awhile since i recorded anything, the band thing eats up a lot of time.  We are taking a break from our Sunday gigs so i ll try and use this time for recording, that's a game of its own!

well, this my entry for this month. My buddy did the lead vocal track for me and for my myself on (drums, bass, ryth guitar, lead guitar and backup vocals).

    Danny

This recording is for educational purposes only, i do not own this song, all copyright goes to the Randy Rodger's band.

@Texaspackerfan, how are you doing in Session 19?

    Hello @Wim VD

Its a slow process. The best thing i've been doing is chomp at it little by little.  What is really helping is playing in a real life situation and take what Steve is showing us and use it in live jams.  i've taken what Steve has shown us and tried to put it to use, but there is no substitute for on the spot playing, your brain seems to get things when it is pressured in those situations. you will flop at times but it remembers not to dot it again for some reason, at lest for me.  Try to let go and let your brain just play on its own. I hear licks now and go wow that was neat how can i do that and just let the fingers go searching, for me they just seem to find a path. i have to admit a lot of my solos are from the hip, some work and some don't, but each time i do try i learn more. I guess what im saying is just learn what steve has guide lined to us but dont be mechanical. just let go and make mistakes.  as far as your arpeggios, of chords, my practice was to make chords anywhere possible on the guitar and thats where i tend to go for my leads.

Thank you for reaching out to me, please fill free to anytime. Its nice to see someone come this far as well.

oh, ive been playing at a local tavern here with a few guys and its been a wonderful experience.

    good luck,

Great job on this everyone! Really coming together.

I have 2 questions im hoping someone can answer.

    1. Have you found a way to play the mp3 tracks in the browser without having to download them? I know you asked about that earlier

    2. I downloaded a couple of the tracks so i could try playing the rhythm along with the drum and bass track, but when i tried to import them into my daw (Studio 1) it says not compatible file? What type of file should it be im wondering? And how would you convert it if you need to? Will the daw program do that?

Im just newb to Studio One and lots there to figure out for sure.

    Any help appreciated,  thanks.....Paul

    Hi Paul, @AcousticM

I use studio one as well. If you have itunes you can use it to convert your mp3 to a wav file, studio one only uses a wav file format. If you have itune, click the file header and go to convert, but make sure you select the file first. If you need more help just let me know.

This is great!.  Rick Beato is putting out new videos "What makes this song great."  It's awesome because he plays solo'd instrument tracks so you can hear each instrument by itself.  He also might discuss some theory.  On the Steeley Dan "Kid Charlemagne" video, he actually hows how to play the entire solo.  So far I've watched the Steeley Dan one, Tom Petty, and Police songs.

Check it out!  Here's a link to the first in the series where you can access the list to all of them (7 so far):

That's good stuff cap. I've seen several of his videos.

I'm having a heck of a time adding vocals to the songs I am practicing.  I get my strumming pattern down and then when I try to add the vocal my strumming hand wants to mirror the inflections of the vocal, throwing the whole thing off.  Has anyone else experienced and overcame this?

    Robert

    HI Robert,

What i do is, get the timing and strumming down and then i just listen to the song over and over and over.....i guess you see my point. You will find over time it will take less time to get both working together. (for most songs) I still have trouble with one song i do at our gigs and i've heard the song a thousand times, it is Pure Prairie League- Amie.
