    "Black Orpheus' is a classic Bossa Nova "Jazz Standard" tune by guitarist, singer/composer Luiz Bonfá . The tune was played by Steve Krenz on the April 14th /20 broadcast of "Live Lessons" which you can see and hear on our Guitar Gathering YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaKLy681H8BN4DYQkGF_UUw/videos Credit for this version; Frank Vignola, Truefire "Jazz Studio" If you know a your Major, Minor and a few Diminshed / half Diminished chords, you'll find that this song is fairly easy to play. It's all in the rhythm! Enjoy! NeilES335
  2. Just starting out on recording yourself on guitar and/or vocals? Here's a helpful video from Long and McQuade Music Canada that should help you on your way;
  3. Wondering what equipment you're using.... A DSLR camera with video capability? Looks like you have a Focusrite mic (like I do) Is this running into the interface or the camera? A you using a DAW?

  6. @Steve Krenz So true.... You read my mind! I can play scales all day long, (boring) and melodies from my head, but the "soloing" has been elusive for me. Most so-called lessons I've seen say, " go ahead and solo" over this chord of that, but give no idea on HOW to do this. I'll be interested and hopefully, get to actually watch and learn in real time. All the Best! Neil
  7. @CalgaryIanWelcome back Ian! Alway nice to have another Canadian on board. You made it further than most on this course, so with a little refreshing and practice you should be up to speed pretty quickly. Regards Neil
  8. Very nice duo of Godin instruments Dave🎸👌.

  10. @dan0725 You will find this Ditto X2 Looper manual on our website under Gear here
  11. I'd say no. I've been at it for a long time, starting in my teens, followed by about a 30+ hiatus, then more focused learning with Steve's LMG. It has been frustrating at times, but I find now I can get around on the keyboard a bit and can play some fairly complex tunes, I enjoy it more than ever. Do I have more to learn? You bet! The more I learn, the more there is to learn. But, just relaxing on the couch and being able to play a few tunes (rhythm and melody) without the sheet music and hunting for the next chord is a lot of fun. It even (surprise!) sounds a bit like music!
  12. @Joao Peneda Welcome. Thank you for your kind commets and we look forward to hearing more from you, Stay well; @NeilES335 moderator
  13. Congrats Dave on your retierment! Well deserved, I'm sure. Another stage of life begins. Stay Well. N
  14. Been there years ago following a MVA... no fun at all. All the best Greg. wishing you a speedier recovery. N
  15. You might want to try a slightly different playing position with the headstock raised making the fretboard on a 45 degree angle to your body. This puts less strain on your wrist and make fretting barre chords easier.
  16. @colderThats a great list👍On the 'Wes' album's I should have said "Smokin' at the Half Note" .(It is a live recording with the Wynton Kelly Trio, which is a treat in itself) Also recommend any thing by current day virtuoso, Frank Vignola ( my current jazz teacher).
  17. Cant go wrong with Steve's lessons...your son's lucky he has access to them. i'm giving the Fender one a pass...
  18. I liked the Gibson "Arlen Roth" lessons too... Steve produced some excellent lessons there too. It's a shame Gibson took them down and didn't save them. I looked at the Fender website and it says Free Trial, but doesnt say how long.
  19. @colder Thats great you're listening to some jazz lately. May I suggest you check out: Wes Montgomery' s " Boss Guitar" and " Live at the Half Note"; Joe Pass' " Virtuoso" and the all time classic, Miles Davis, " Kinda Blue" . Happy listening; Neil
  20. @matonanjin Generous offer Ron. You may have something here... Perhaps we could start a "Resources Sharing Library" . Somthing like this; A Member posts their unused/seldom used/ unwanted guitar or song instruction for donation. The recipient pays the postage; far less than the cost of the courses or books/cd's. They receive a resouce to study that perhaps they could not afford or were unsure of. The resource doesnt gather dust and donor helps a fellow student on their guitar journey. What do you folks think? Neil
  21. Really . I never paid attention to "heavy metal" . Strongly disliked it. Still do.
  22. he best explain it to me too...
  23. Yes on the Ditto X2 you can Import/export your loops with a USB cable. It also has a 1/2 speed and reverse effect built in (I've never used it) But as Doug says, the main reason I got it vs. the Ditto 1 is the dedicated STOP button. You can avoid doing double clicks all the time. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DittoX2--tc-electronic-ditto-x2-looper-pedal I found it takes a while to get used to using a looper, and I've never really "mastered" it (yet) The main thing I'd use it for would be practice playing the rhythm track of a song then playing the melody over it. Steve has a video on this to help. https://gx169.infusionsoft.app/app/storeFront/showProductDetail?productId=67
