  1. Justin Sandercoe is always a great source for song lessons ;
  2. I'm wondering at that comment too... unless you put VERY heavy gauge strings (Like 13's or higher with a heavy .52.on the LOW E.) on a Les Paul which usually has "10's or 11's " (low E 1st string).... The heavier gauge has more string tension and without a neck adjustment could affect the action. The nut slots might be too narrow also.. Sounds like the store really messed up on this one... I wouldn't let them touch anything of mine again if I were you...

    Larry Carlton.jpg

I love the colour of Larry's 335... but like you say... very pricey model. (how much is guitar vs. the cache' of Larry's name? ) The inspiration for one of Larry's most popular songs; Room 335. I've probably said but I love the looks of your D'Angelico but I've just never seen in person. (probably a good thing cause then there might be another NGD)

Thanks Gerard; Wow a whole concert....One of the smoooothest jazz groups of all time... Listening to Larry Carlton and Fourplay (not to forget George Benson) on FM radio is what got me interested in jazz..

    BB King

The internet is an amazing place... really though I just googled their names. Some come from Wikipedia, others from Getty Images, Instagram etc. ... I thought members would like to see some of their guitar heroes . (so far these are mine) :-)

  7. Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo are two of my favorite guitarists, and gentlemen both... check this one out.... Do you think they need the Speed And Agility Fretboard Workout? Flight of the Bumblebees
  8. Welcome to the GG Forum HuNu! I have a Godin Kingpin archtop guitar with a P90 pickup, that has a shallower body than the typical dreadnought. It's a superb instrument, great tone whether plugged in or not, and very comfortable to play. It should not hurt your shoulder to play it at all. It would cost about 500-600 USD . There is a photo in this site Gallery. Hope this helps.
  9. @Wim VD ; you're progress and practice ethic is admirable, and your playing excellent! I read your posts with interest... and hope I'll be at your level in my lifetime. (working on it:-) If only we were on the same continent...
  10. Doing some research into this guitar, I found that the model year is 2004, not 2003 as I was told... Interpreting Gibson Serial Numbers is a bit tricky... Here's some info you might find helpful; Gibson Serial Numbers WHAT A SERIAL NUMBER CAN AND CAN'T TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR GIBSON
  11. Thanks very much everyone!? Now just wondering what strings to put on it.... D'Addario Chrome Flatwounds maybe...

    "The Jazz Trio"

oops i already commented on this ...
  18. "NEW" guitar day! Very chuffed to show my "new" Gibson Memphis ES-137 Classic Heritage Cherry Sunburst! Hand carved Flame Maple top, back and sides, (even the neck) Trapezoid Mother of Pearl in lays with special "C" market at the 12th fret. Gibson 490 R and 498 T pickups..This guitar, a 2004 model is in amazing 9.5/10 condition, and plays superbly! Warm creamy jazz tones all the way to snarly singing blues... and everything in between. It is described by some as being the perfect blend of a Les Paul and and ES -335 ... It is a semi - hollow, BUT, the centre block is mahogany, (not maple) ,to increase sustain and reduce feedback. The centre block does not touch the solid top, which gives this guitar extreme resonance and sustains like crazy! There's a full description; https://goo.gl/fQ3XAo I bought it mostly for the "jazz tones"(ala ES175, CES-4, L-5 etc.) but it's so versatile, any serious player would love it for any style! Will this take #1 spot over my beloved ES-335? We'll see... I spotted this on a 'Blow Out Inventory Sale" at our largest music retailer, Long and McQuade. I lined up at 8:30am on the first day of the sale, to get a number, to get a chance to buy it... I was 14th.. Fortunately, I was the 1st to speak for this guitar and they kindly put it aside for me. When I was "demo'ing" it, a couple of other guys wanted it too and hung around to see it I took it... NO way guys... this ones mine! And the price... well, you wouldn't believe it if I told you! What a gem. Special thanks to Greg Voros and BWillard (our resident Gibson expert and passionate collector) for their valued opinions on this. I was also pleased to pick up a superb deal for my friend EracerTeam_DougH, a beautiful Epiphone Sheraton Natural, with gold hardware, also at a superb price. I 'll let him tell you about that...
  19. Hey Greg; Maybe you could throw in a couple of m7b5's , m11's , m 9ths' or Maj 7th or Maj 6th cords, and really get their heads spinning
  20. While some think of Jazz as "cats on the piano", many modern blues players have very effectively used so-call "jazz chords" in bringing a fresh approach to the Blues. None more so, in my humble opinion, than Robben Ford, a great performer and teacher (as it turns out) who demonstrates here how the addition of 9th's and 13th's to the usual 1 - 4-5 progression adds some much needed interest. Not hard at all... try it!
  21. Now this is old time "Down East" Maritime Fiddle Music. "Don Messers Jubiliee" .. I heard this on the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ) every Saturday night as a kid, just before "Hockey Night In Canada"... with Foster Hewitt "He shoots, He scores!"
  22. I use this method almost every day. It's really great not having to set up the amp, cables etc. Instead of the amPlug, I bought the Vox amPhones https://www.long-mcquade.com/19560/Guitars/Guitar_Effects/Vox/amPhones_Lead_Active_Guitar_Headphone.htm#add-to-wishlist ($139.99 CDN about 25% less in the USA) These are good quality headphones with the amp built right into the headphones, with out having to use the bulky plug in unit on the guitar. They work great! I didn't have a set of headphones at the time so i got 2 units for the price of one. The lead from the phones has a 1/4" jack with an adapter to 1/8 " . so you can use it with all your music players, cell phone, or the small jack on your regular amp. There are several models, with different tones. I got the "Twin" model for the Fender clean tones. My only critique is that the volume, tone, gain and on/off switches are very small. It's powered by 1 AA battery which has a decent life.. just remember to turn it off. You dont need the phones on to use them with a music player. And they're so portable... I take them with me to the cottage, travelling etc. PLUS... I bought a 1/8 male to male lead ($10) so I plug the amPhones (separate jack) into my computer or phone for Lessons, backing or jam tracks and the like. I can practice late at night (as I am want to do ) for hours and not disturb my dear wife. :-) I actually seldom use my "real " amp. (I've been thinking about a different amp, but with these, I don;t really "need" one. Worth every penny.
  23. Another point was raised on chat about how soon the Live Lesson would be available for viewing following the lesson itself. As of this time I couldn't find it.... (I'd like to review it too :-)
  24. I was moderating the The new Guitar Gathering YouTube feed (with DougH). It was crystal clear, great audio, NO lags, skips and totally in sync . A LOT of new - comers there as well , said they tried both and YT was way better bye bye Ustream YouTube will attract huge numbers of new viewers imho.. Steve, the only issue appears to be that we can't post links there... there must be a way.
