This was a real fun one to learn and I like the fact that this solo is played all over the neck.
It is my final BGU recording. Now that I have learned all these licks, it is time to work on my blues improvisation skills. Thanks for listening,
Wim
I love it Wim, well done!

@Nutty 1Mandy, that was great! Good consistent strumming that didn’t falter at all with the singing. I love the sparkly red guitar too!

@Texaspackerfan simply superb. Sounds like a pro recording you might hear on the radio. Oh, and you are way too hard on yourself on the singing - sounds good to me!

@Nutty 1 Mandy, yes it is really hard... to start with, but gets easier. This is great, that you've made that start and that you're brave enough to let us see your progress and support you on your journey. Keep at it, and you will get there. It looks like you're really enjoying yourself and that is key.
Yes, there are mistakes here... but also lots of positives, and it really is a great song! As you say, it documents where you are right now. So, keep going, you're doing great.
My main advice would be to choose an easy song that you love... you did that, then practice the strumming without the singing until you can do it almost without thinking, then introduce the singing gradually. Works for me.

Wow, @NeilES335, that's superb! Great job on your first recording. Most people (including me) would tend to go way to heavy on reverb etc when they start out, but you got it tastefully just right. Beautifully played in a way that befits this sublime piece of music. Congratulations, and bring on the next one!

I found this interesting since it contradicted the Taylor restringing video where the Taylor employee recommended boiled linseed oil to use on the fretboard prior to restringing.
Yes, interesting. I wrote to Taylor a few years back to ask what I should use on my Taylor's ebony fretboard and they said boiled linseed oil! I never did though.

@WATSON43 terrific recording Kevin? . Just getting into recording myself so Im finding out how hard it can be to get a "clean, error free" take. Congrats.
Neil,
I watched a fascinating UK TV documentary series recently on the way the music industry has evolved technologically. One episode was on vocal recording. A very well-known and respected female singer (unfortunately, I can't remember who) said one of her biggest lessons was that a perfect single take is almost impossible, only a very few exceptional people in the world can deliver them. As a result, ALL professional recording sessions record multiple takes and compile (comp) them into a great recording. She said she used to put pressure on herself to achieve that one perfect take and it ruined her performance. Now, she accepts that she's very unlikely to achieve it so she simply gives each take her best shot, knowing it won't be perfect, and she trusts the engineer/producer to comp to a great recording. Her studio performances improved dramatically when she took away that pressure.
If you're starting out in recording, ask yourself about the purpose of each recording. If I'm recording myself to assess my ability/progress, say to deliver a song live, then I'll record the whole thing on my portable Zoom recorder (or even on my iPad), listen and review, learn and practice and repeat. If I'm trying to make the best recording that I can of a song, then I'll likely do a multi-track recording in Logic and will comp the best bits of various takes on each track. It's fairly easy to do in Logic when you know how, but I have no experience of Reaper.
Just some thoughts for you to digest.

@WATSON43 An excellent and enjoyable recording - as I've come to expect from you. Really great work, keep 'em coming.

I have my eye on the 12-string he wrote 'Wish You Were Here' on. I'm not bidding a penny over $1000 though. Wish me luck!

Sound a lot like 'I'd Rather Go Blind' by Etta James.

"Green Onions" has been used extensively in television, film and advertising, so I am glad that it fits into the challenge for this month.
I love that song Wim. You did it very well as always, good job!

This is my first attempt to submit a song. The song is Blue Bayou from the movie The Man who Fell to Earth with David Bowie. The song was recorded on my iPhone.
Henk, this is great! Really consistent strumming and a nice even tempo. I'm always amazed how good the recording quality is on an iPhone too.
Congratulations on posting your first recording, I look forward to many more now.

I posted this in a Ukulele post else where but probably deserves to be here.
I've signed up for beginner group ukulele lessons at the local store Jan 27-2019.. and I've rented a Uke for the grand sum of $12 for 3 months.
plinking on it, took a song book out of the library while waiting for the class to start. but I've be volunteered by my wife for a retirement community Hawaiian Party on March 2, to play a couple of songs..
Wife thought a 'standard' is Tiny Bubbles.
so without further ado with out lessons (shows) and 30min practice time.. here is my very first take of Tiny Bubbles on Ukulele.
Well done Doug, I love it!

In LMG session 18, Steve teaches us how to jazz up chord progressions.
That background, together with the Jazz Chords Fretboard Workout, helped me a lot when learning this slow blues.
Thanks for listening,
Wim.
Nice work Wim!

Wow, Kevin that is beautiful! Really well played and sung, a real crowd pleaser. Your voice and your niece's voice work really well together, I enjoyed it so much. Going to go right back and listen again now!

I've registered for the summer event. I've never been. In fact, I've rarely been out of my home studio to play. I've been working through the Learn and Master Guitar course that Steve put together and I'm on the Jazz lesson. I've been working on it for a bit over 2 years. I am really nervous. I still consider myself a beginner, but I think that this conference will help me to get out of my shell....even if I do suck....hahaha!!! I'm pretty excited!
Great news Curtis. There's no need to be nervous, I'm sure there'll be all levels there and the folks will be great and supportive.
