  1. @Triple-o, you didn't know one could do what?  I can't invest 20 minutes right now to watch that video.  Just taking a guess. A lot of people don't realize that Hank Marvin ran two echo (delay) pedals to get his unique sound.  If you dive in, which I did a couple years ago, there is a lot of discussion on different forums about how he set up his two delay pedals and what settings he used.  Quite the "rabbit hole".

  2. In an attempt to answer  my own question, that being the meaning of "Dust My Broom", I started a search.  An interesting fact about this song is the number of times it has been covered.  From a website titled, "Talking Guitar ★ Jas Obrecht's Music Magazine"  and an article (page) titled, "“Dust My Broom”: The Story of a Song" is this:

"The song’s been covered by countless performers – a quick search on YouTube turns up versions by Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, The Yardbirds, Hound Dog Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, Cassandra Wilson, Ike and Tina Turner, Taj Mahal, Freddie King, Junior Brown and Warren Haynes, R.L. Burnside, Duwayne Burnside, ZZ Top, Todd Rundgren, and the list goes on. Along the way, the song’s been adapted to piano, accordion, acoustic guitar, and, most of all, electric guitar."

Keep in mind, all those above, are YouTube covers! I wonder how many covers before YouTube even existed.

  3. I know this is "old blues" music, which I like.  I probably like a little more modern, electric blues better.  But I love all blues.  Kind off topic.

I think "Dust My Broom" has something to do with working in the packing houses.  I remember at some point reading about it but now I don't remember where I read it.  But, at some point, I hope I can learn what "Dust My Broom" means.

  4. My wife and I went to a concert Wednesday night.  A friend of mine is the keyboard player in a band called Daybreak.  They play, what they call, "feel good dance music".  They play, what I call, "geezer music".   I suspect both descriptions are accurate😉

Anyway, one of their songs of the second set is "Sleepwalk".  It is a tradition of my wife and me that we dance to Sleepwalk.  It's been a decade or more since that happened but it did Wednesday night!

  5. I can't remember his name.  A guy that is, as I understand it, a fairly well known harmonica player gave a two day seminar here a couple years ago.  The tuition included a harmonica.  Since then I have purchased a couple more harmonicas but haven't picked one up since the seminar!😡

  6. @Oldjock, I have tackled Apache many times over the years because, like you, "it has been one of my favourite songs since I was a teen."  Every time that I did attempt it I got to that, as you and @Triple-o call it, "galloping portion" and the sheet music, or whatever I was studying from, went back in the desk drawer.

Maybe, after Christmas, it's time to get the music back out?  Thanks to both of you for the reminder. In a way perhaps this will serve as a gauge if I am making any progress.  The difficulty level of the song is listed as “Moderate”.  If that is accurate I should be able to complete it!  I may or may not report back!😡

But now I'm trying to figure out how to say what I want to say while maintaining Moderator hmmmm legality with Member intended helpfulness.

In December of 2013 Guitar Techniques magazine had as their cover article "Apache by the Shadows".  This edition is loooong out of print. So one can no longer purchase it.  But the intellectual rights to that article still do remain with Guitar Techniques. It is illegal to share it.  As a guitarist, and as long time semi-professional photographer, I want to respect any such property rights.

The article included the entire song sheet music, an mp3 of the song intended as a play along and an mp3 backing track of the song. The backing track is a very good one.  Actually, racist comments (“this chart topper from Hank, Bruce, Jet and Tony will rid you of all your reservations”, “Native American style tom-toms) aside, for anyone wanting to learn Apache, this is like all of Guitar Techniques articles, very professionally done.

But, as I said, it is out of print and so old it is no longer for sale as a back issue from Magazines Direct, the publisher of Guitar Techniques.  Let's leave it this way.  If you would like to see the article or play the backing track, contact me by PM.

  7. @dbvirago, you can purchase it from Guitar Center.  Darryl, I would feel comfortable buying it online from Guitar Center and the description says it is "in stock".  Normally, when purchasing online from GC, at least with a guitar, the web page will tell you which store has the item.  I can't get that here.  But I guess that doesn't matter.  It states for me, to Omaha, 3 - 5 business days shipping.

Let us know if you get it!

Hello, found this thread trying to get info on Steve's Fingerstyle Mastery course. I looked through the site and some links were broken, so I wasn't sure if this was still a viable option. And courses on DVDs are a bit dated. Are they able to be downloaded. Is Steve still active.

    Thanks for any help

I would just add to Doug's great answer that, yes, Steve is definitely still active and stops in here routinely to answer any questions that have been posted.   Of course, it is such short notice as to not be practical, but for future planning Steve's two annual retreats always generate rave reviews:  his Fall FingerStyle Retreat and his June Summer Gathering.  The latter was Acoustic Guitar Magazine's Silver Award  Players Choice Award.

But back to your original question, are you gathering pre-purchase information or have you purchased it and wanting to stream it?  If the latter, many of us on here have "ripped" our DVD's so that we can play them on our tablets.  I know some use  HandBrake to do this.  I used a program called WinX DVD Ripper.  Not only to play on my tablet but I like to slow down videos using a program, Video Surgeon.  I use this a lot for slowing down not just Learn and Master but lots of videos.  I need them slower than most!😉  but I digress!

If the former, then as Doug said, "nope DVDs won't stream soon if ever"  This goes beyond the scope of this thread.  But Legacy Learning owns all Learn and Master courses as I understand it.  they have never offered any encouragement about their courses being offered as a stream despite how often the subject has been brought up.

@dbvirago, Welcome and don't hesitate to ask any other questions you may have.

  10. Yeah, I'm sure.  But I misunderstood the email from Joe when I posted.  He wasn't the musical guest, the one that always closes the show.  He joined, sat in with, the band for the show.

Sorry if my post was confusing.  But there is a very good reason for that.  I was confused!

for me, a big hump has always been the opening solo in Metallica’s song One.  Hammer ons, pulls offs, bends, sweeps, all over the fret board from 2nd fret to the 19th. I finally can play it!

thanks for all the encouragement it’s a journey and dedicated practice.

And thank you for sharing your inspirational, encouraging story!

Way to go Ron I know you have been working on this for some time.... now on to the Blues Spotlight course and then Steve's Finger Style course. LOL  I just checked on ebay and you can find them cheap there.

George, thank you.  I actually own the Blues Spotlight course.  (the plastic wrap is still on it!)  I've owned it quite a while and need to start.  I've already proven I have trouble with fingerstyle so I'm not sure I will pursue that more!
