It's time for me to move on from lesson 9. Looking at lesson 10 finger style is what I believe is next for me. A couple of issues concern me at this point 1. I will never be able to have longer finger nails 2. From an accident my index finger was cut off just past the nail. Looking on line at various finger picks has me confuse, so many options. Does any one have experience with finger picks or should I forget lesson 10 and move on to lesson 11?

You can manage just fine in session 10 without fingernails. Not everyone who plays fingerstyle uses fingernails to create their tone. Personally, I hate having long nails - when I let them grow them out even a tiny bit - they always break.

I have never tried to use finger picks - however, do use a thumb pick.

Good luck in session 10!

Dont skip s10! Along with the fingerstyle playing are some very important "theory" concepts that must be mastered. Experiment with various thumb and finger picks if thats what will work for you. Its not a "one size fits all". Dont miss out on overcoming a perceived roadblock.  You can do it!

p.s. I'm missing the tip of my indexfinger ... hasnt stopped me.

Thanks for your advice guys, you have helped me make a decision. I will start session 10 and experiment with picks. Finger style really does interest me and perhaps will go beyond beyond session 10. I have become more aware of guitarist playing styles. This past Sunday at church,  a  rhyme guitarist playing with the worship team mixed finger style in with cord playing. I realize this isn't anything new but I haven't really noticed it before, loved what I was hearing.

I see you're from San Antonio - my home town!  Go Spurs Go! (Although this doesn't seem to be that great of year for them.)

I would say, yes, continue to look at Session 10.  Just get a feel for it.  Don't let your one finger injury hold you back - just work around it as best as you can.

Don't worry about nails.  Fingerstyle is more about getting your fingers to cooperate in moving independently.

It's a great style.  Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

Keep up the great work!

- Steve

Thanks Steve for a great guitar course, I can appreciate all that went into making this the best course available. Certainly the guitar communities support has helped so many in so many ways to become the guitarist they always wanted to be.

I was disappointed to miss your guitar session in San Antonio this past summer. We spend summers in Colorado. Hopefully there will be another opportunity in the future.

I started session 10 today, thanks for all the encouragement from everyone.

The Deuce,

I'm sure I'll be back in San Antonio before too long.  I'll get the word out when I get back there.

Keep Learning!
