  1. @Skip Russell If I could offer a suggestion... You could work on your phrasing a bit more; smoother with a bit of swing, maybe a slide or two. It would make a big difference.
  2. Yes. Sure wish i could. But I'll see Mom and Dad again someday. And yes; drop what your doing that's so important and call you Mom or Dad now. Even if you don't have anything special to say. Mom's especially just want to hear the sound of your voice. N ps Thank you for remembering Doug.
  3. @Skip Russell Very nice Skip! I see you've been a member for a while.. It's great to see you postig a song here. Also to have another jazz guitar enthusiast too! Well done on the song (I didnt know this one) I hear your rhythm track as well. Recording good and clear. I enjoyed listening... let's hear some more. Happy Tunes; Neil

"Black Orpheus' is a classic Bossa Nova "Jazz Standard" tune by guitarist, singer/composer Luiz Bonfá . The tune was played by Steve Krenz on the April 14th /20 broadcast of "Live Lessons" which you can see and hear on our Guitar Gathering YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaKLy681H8BN4DYQkGF_UUw/videos Credit for this version; Frank Vignola, Truefire "Jazz Studio" If you know a your Major, Minor and a few Diminshed / half Diminished chords, you'll find that this song is fairly easy to play. It's all in the rhythm! Enjoy! NeilES335

  8. Wondering what equipment you're using.... A DSLR camera with video capability? Looks like you have a Focusrite mic (like I do) Is this running into the interface or the camera? A you using a DAW?

  11. @Nutty 1 Very Good! I enjoyed listening to the entire song! All the best ; Neil
  12. @Steve Krenz So true.... You read my mind! I can play scales all day long, (boring) and melodies from my head, but the "soloing" has been elusive for me. Most so-called lessons I've seen say, " go ahead and solo" over this chord of that, but give no idea on HOW to do this. I'll be interested and hopefully, get to actually watch and learn in real time. All the Best! Neil
  13. @CalgaryIanWelcome back Ian! Alway nice to have another Canadian on board. You made it further than most on this course, so with a little refreshing and practice you should be up to speed pretty quickly. Regards Neil
  14. Very nice duo of Godin instruments Dave🎸👌.

  16. @dan0725 You will find this Ditto X2 Looper manual on our website under Gear here
  17. I'd say no. I've been at it for a long time, starting in my teens, followed by about a 30+ hiatus, then more focused learning with Steve's LMG. It has been frustrating at times, but I find now I can get around on the keyboard a bit and can play some fairly complex tunes, I enjoy it more than ever. Do I have more to learn? You bet! The more I learn, the more there is to learn. But, just relaxing on the couch and being able to play a few tunes (rhythm and melody) without the sheet music and hunting for the next chord is a lot of fun. It even (surprise!) sounds a bit like music!
  18. @Joao Peneda Welcome. Thank you for your kind commets and we look forward to hearing more from you, Stay well; @NeilES335 moderator
  19. Congrats Dave on your retierment! Well deserved, I'm sure. Another stage of life begins. Stay Well. N
  20. Been there years ago following a MVA... no fun at all. All the best Greg. wishing you a speedier recovery. N
  21. You might want to try a slightly different playing position with the headstock raised making the fretboard on a 45 degree angle to your body. This puts less strain on your wrist and make fretting barre chords easier.
  22. @colderThats a great list👍On the 'Wes' album's I should have said "Smokin' at the Half Note" .(It is a live recording with the Wynton Kelly Trio, which is a treat in itself) Also recommend any thing by current day virtuoso, Frank Vignola ( my current jazz teacher).
  23. Cant go wrong with Steve's lessons...your son's lucky he has access to them. i'm giving the Fender one a pass...
  24. I liked the Gibson "Arlen Roth" lessons too... Steve produced some excellent lessons there too. It's a shame Gibson took them down and didn't save them. I looked at the Fender website and it says Free Trial, but doesnt say how long.
  25. @colder Thats great you're listening to some jazz lately. May I suggest you check out: Wes Montgomery' s " Boss Guitar" and " Live at the Half Note"; Joe Pass' " Virtuoso" and the all time classic, Miles Davis, " Kinda Blue" . Happy listening; Neil
