  1. Imagine how good Hank had to be to write all those songs with only four strings!!
  2. Hank Williams' S.S. Stewart archtop is now available at Carter Vintage Guitars. Wow - if this guitar could talk... Nice appreciation for a guitar purchased for $14 in 1946. If one of you buys this, please bring it to the summer conference. 🙂
  3. I have used Reverb a couple times and both were good experiences. I decided to return one of the purchases (the guitar needed a lot of work that was not described in the listing) and the seller took it back with no problems.
  4. Very nice Ben - you need to open a Gibson museum. ?
  5. Those are nice guitars @Magnit - I can see why you are gassing for one! I have owned a Composite Acoustics for a number of years and it is a great guitar to take on trips. I hate traveling with a wood guitar and worrying if it is getting too hot (or cold) if left in the car. Someday, someone is going to figure out how to tweak carbon fiber guitars to sound like any wood guitar. Want your carbon fiber guitar to sound like a prewar Martin, a '30s Gibson, etc. - no problem. They are not there yet (my Composite Acoustics is built like a tank, and very heavy) - but it will happen some day. They are already making significant progress with violins.
  6. Awesome - what a great visit to Gruhn's!
  7. Several of us met and talked with Jonathan a few years ago during our Guitar Gathering conference (he was the featured artist for a Collings seminar at Artisan Guitars). He is a great talent and a good guy.
  8. Hi Peggy - glad you will be joining us. I believe that Steve is traveling to Boston this week. The list above is updated manually by Steve when he visits the site. If you have registered and paid on Steve's site you are good. He will update the list eventually. Dave
  9. Thanks for the handout Steve! That was an awesome live lesson!
  10. I use a similar product with my Composite Acoustics guitar - it slides all over the place without the pad. @NeilES335 - do you want to be able to remove the pad occasionally - or do you want to glue it on permanently?
  11. Welcome Bruce! I agree with what Diane said above. It is nice to have an acoustic and electric available. For example - the electric will come in handy when you are starting barre chords. My current guitar instructor is working me through some barre chord lessons (some of them are 32 bars long) that include chords all over the neck. Even though I have been playing for 5+ years, I simply can't do an hour of these exercises on my acoustic (despite the fact that it is set up with fairly low action). However, I still play my acoustic regularly so my hands won't get lazy.
  12. Questions for Greg: What is the most common repair job that comes into the shop? What is the wildest repair job that you have ever had?
  13. @Ralphonzo - I will leave it to Steve to answer if Johnny will be teaching at the conference. He did play and instruct at one of the main sessions last summer - and it was fantastic. Then he stayed around for about an hour after his session and talked to us and showed off his new guitar (which he let each of us handle and play). He is an awesome guy.
  14. 'Sweet Home Alabama' Stratocaster at Carter Vintage Guitars. Just think, it could be yours!
  15. From Popular Mechanics Personally, I like red ones ?
  16. Here is a brief video of some of Ed King's (Lynyrd Skynyrd) equipment that is currently at Carter Vintage Guitars. They were filming some of this when I visited Nashville last month.
