    That is very helpful. I just have a hard time getting into it. Making pretty sounds on my guitar=heaven. Memorizing stuff=drudgery. I know this is a bad outlook and I'm trying to change it and get excited about it.

    As far as the index finger coming off the first string I try and get my thumb right under the Barre allowing for even pressure. It took me a long time to ring the chords and now my battle is changing chords in time. Complete muscle memory issue that I am working on.

    I haven't had elbow pain mainly pain to the outer wrist and the Big muscle on my outer hand. I learn best by watching so maybe find some you tube videos of a good teacher, like Justine Sandercore or just watch Steve and note their mechanics and try to duplicate. Of course every human is different so watch a bunch and see if you can find something that works for you. Good luck. I'm struggling with this too but we can get this!!

    Fred I am by no means a Barre chord expert seeing as how I've been on lessons 7 and 8 since last July. Based on my experience the way to not mute strings is to bend your wrist as much as you can so as to try and get straight up and down on the Barre chord. The wrist will bend more and more if you challenge your comfort level daily. And as to your other question, I find it helpful to touch the 6th string on 5th string Barre chords because it mutes it and your strum doesn't have to be perfect. Hope that helps. Probably not!     I have been looking forward to session 10 since I started the course. However I have been stuck in session 7 and 8 for embarrassing 7 months! Fingerstyle is my goal. But I know I need to get my chords crystal clear beforehand. I watched Steve's Christmas live lesson and the beauty of his playing is all I want. I purchased L&M Fingerstyle Guitar for myself as a Christmas present. But I have a ways to go before my talent level meets this. But this is my guitar new years resolution.

    Does anyone have any suggestions for sight reading exercises? I mean besides playing songs from songbooks.

    Got through the basic workout for the first time tonight. I replayed the 120 BBM section three times. Needs polish but finally able to do it. Kinda.

    I'm concentrating very hard on hitting the frets and strings with the beat. I'm listening to Steve tell me to keep my fingers close to the strings. And at the same time I'm looking at my fingers fly up off the fretboard after each note! Looking forward to more and more practice to improve my economy of motion!
