  1. This is, in essence, how I eventually want to play. I just love the style. I realize there are two guitars but even when Tommy plays alone it sounds like two guitars!
  2. Just started trying to use this for fingerpicking. It's hard to get used to.
  3. Tpettygirl I know the frustration of trying to learn the open chords. Mandy's advice is spot on. I particularly struggled with C and G7 at the beginning. I just kept muting the other strings terribly. All I can say is keep trying. Even when you are having a terrible practice keep making the chords and switching between. For me it seems like progress was made after nearly wanting to give up. Like the next day was always a little better. And soon you will see growth and this was very rewarding for me. Play along to the tracks provided. It makes it fun.
  4. I always play with my right heel up in the air from the ball of my foot to get a little lift on the guitar. This can become quite uncomfortable during long practices. So I ordered this from Amazon and tonight is my first time using it. It is amazingly comfortable. I recommend to anyone who likes their right leg a little higher than the left.
  5. That's pretty funny! All forms of music has its fans. Pretty good stereotype of the genres.
  6. OK I've come up with some lyric ideas. Let me know what you think... All the leaves are brown And the sky is grey... Just kidding. Working on it though. Harder to do than expected.
  7. Lovely guitar. Congratulations. Enjoy. It really is a beautiful instrument. You should post a little sample of how it sounds.
  8. "One of the secrets to my sound is almost beyond explanation. My battered old Martin guitar, Trigger, has the greatest tone I’ve ever heard from a guitar — and I’ve played a lot of guitars, including a lot of other Martins that were the exact same model as Trigger.A lot of guys in the band have been with me for decades, but Trigger has outlasted every musician I’ve played with, and after all these years, I have come to believe we were fated for each other. The two of us even look alike. My musician pals haven’t carved and written their names on me the way they have on Trigger, but we’re both pretty bruised and battered. The holes I’ve worn in Trigger are from my pick zinging up and down a million times on the face of an acoustic guitar that’s not supposed to be played with a pick, but at this point those holes are part of what makes Trigger sound exactly right.”- -Willie Nelson
  9. That was really something! Maybe a stupid question but did you record the rhythm first then record on top of that? Its beautiful.
  10. Thank you for the encouragement Steve. I am inching closer to completing the intermediate workout. When I was starting on this I would do the workout and wonder how in the world is this going to make me any better? But doing the exercises has "leaked" into other areas of my work. Like hand strength and improved finger stretching. And accuracy of picking and pinky use. It's funny, I want to complete and do well so I find myself practicing for practice. Meaning I work on the moves so that when the clock is running I have a better chance of improving my speed and accuracy.
  11. It took me a while to get through all of this fascinating info but I'm glad I took the time. That was very interesting. Thank you for the great research!
  12. I don't play electric guitar but if I did I would want to play like this guy. Very interesting video but pretty much over my head.
  13. I like the Yamaha CGX122MCC. https://www.sweetwater.com/c987--Classical_and_Nylon_String_Guitars
  14. Dave those look like really nice guitars. How did you like it? Thank you for posting.
  15. I have the Yamaha FG800 and I love it. I recommend you go play this if you are in the market.
  16. I ordered one of those foot stools to help with this. I'll let you know if it helps.
  17. I've watched that TedX video a couple of times and I'm just amazed at the man's talent. Also if you watch his interviews he is so down to earth and humble. One of the best players I've seen for sure.
  18. Thank you! I really like it. Amazing how much better it sounds when you play it!
  19. Very nicely done. I'm trying to play and sing at the same time but so far my brain can only focus on one or the other. Thanks for the song!
  20. My goodness that is my dream. Very beautiful. That is the style I love. Ok more practice!!
  21. I played it using the basic strum pattern for 4/4 time. I'm unclear what the dots mean and the a and e on the 1st and 3rd beats. So if someone wants to post how it should sound I would be grateful!
