Rk, can you post the lyrics?

    Greg

I know that now my heart can be happy

I know that all indications are good

I see it now my future before me

    Like sand in the hourglass

    Its flowing so good

    Don't look back

    Don"t loose your freedom

    Its all up to you

    Figure it out

    Face the day

    You don't need a reason

    It all makes sense

    When you conquer your doubt

Now that I know my heart can be happy

I see the world from a new point of view

Never afraid of the things that await me

I know that I'm not a product of you

Yes now I'm free my heart can be happy

It took awhile but I clearly see

All that you've done and all of the heartbreak

Is a mirror of you and not one of me.

  2. Steve I just want to say thank you for all you've done.  Some people have vision and make things happen for the benefit of the rest of us.  You are that kind of person.  Someday at some function I hope to meet you in person, shake your hand and say thank you.

  3. Lenny Breau is one of the true geniuses of the guitar. I suppose he is a musician's musician. His knowledge of the instrument and the music is so vast, and I think that's what knocks people out about him. But he's such a tasty player too. I think if Chopin had played guitar, he would have sounded like Lenny Breau.

I learned a lot from this series. I just finished video 4. It is good to see Joe struggled through what all guitar players do to learn.

Randy I just finished video 4.  What a wonderful gem.  I never knew how much I don't know!  Anyway I'm working on restructuring my practice time to, in a small way, try and learn more about music.  Thanks again for sharing.

Don’t feel like practicing? That’s acceptable every once in a while. (For our purposes, “once in a while” is defined as “once every fifty years”.) If you’ve already used up your 100-year allowance, as I have, try these. The time frames are merely my suggestions. Tip: add a book to your Amazon Wish List, then later search for it at your local library.

For beginners or first year students:

First, Learn to Practice, by Tom Heany

The Little Book of Talent, by Daniel Coyle

The War of Art, by Richard Pressman

    Grit, by Angela Duckworth

    For second year students:

The Practice of Practice, by Jonathan Harnum

The Talent Code, by Daniel Coyle

    Mastery, by George Leonard

    Turning Pro, by Richard Pressman

For third year students and beyond:

The Practicing Mind, by Thomas Sterner

The Musician’s Way, by Gerald Klickstein

Do the Work, by Richard Pressman

Peak: Secrets from the News Science of Expertise, by Anders Ericsson and Robert Pool

Edly's Music Theory for Practical People, by Ed Roseman

Two other resources I have completed and recommend to anyone who is new to music theory and principles:

The Vaughn Cube for Music Theory

Understanding the Fundamentals of Music, by Prof. Robert Greenberg for The Great Courses

@DianeB I just ordered the Edly book.  Thanks for the recommendation!

  6. I just talked to the Yamaha dealer here today and he is getting some of the Yamaha CGX122's in stock soon.  I'm so glad I talked to him because i was about to pull the trigger on Sweetwater.com without playing.  He is getting both the cedar and spruce tops which is good because I wasn't sure which way to go.  Now I can see for myself what I prefer.

  7. @rkl312 It's a joy helping you out. And, learning is a real encouragement to your soul.

Quote from Steve Krenz tonight in the chat room.  He is so right. What is your soul?  Your soul is your journey to follow your dreams.

TE is definitely the entertainer with a guitar (and phenomenal live); but Eric Skye gets my "smooth, in the groove" vote.  From fiddle tunes, Miles Davis blues, to Herbie Hancock...he gets it done on an acoustic guitar.  Here's a tribute to the late Glenn Campbell..enjoy.

@Plantsman13 this is the first time I've had the pleasure of seeing this artist.  I love his playing.  Thanks for posting.

Here's my contribution for this month. The song is 'Angel' by Sarah McLachlan. I recorded a single, live take direct to mp3 via a Zoom H2n recorder that was standing on the desk in front of me. I then uploaded it into Logic Pro and tweaked the gain and EQ and added bit of reverb and compression. (p.s. when I say 'single, live take' it was by no means the first :-) )

    Beautifully done Ian.

Hey rkl312, I've been wanting a foot rest, but I dabble in wood working and would like to build one.  I have some oak left over from a Christmas project that would work great.  I have a question though, I know the ones like you bought are adjustable, mine will be fixed.  What is a comfortable height?  I'm right at 6' if that helps.  I was going to try different objects until I found a comfortable height, but you may cut some of the R&D time with a close measurement LOL.  Anyway, that question might be a stretch, but figured I would throw it out there anyway.

    Thanks

@KYSLOWFINGERS I am 5 9 and I have it on the lowest setting, about 6 inches.  I havent played around with the height much.  It's comfortable for me where it is.  Maybe get some books and stack them at different heights to see where your comfort level is.

Here is an interim mix with the rhythm guitar tracks added exactly as Fretless suggested (I hope).

Wow, it sounds so much better than how I was thinking about doing it. Listen with stereo headphones to get the full effect folks.

I have learnt something really valuable here about mixing. Thank you @Fretless.

I have uploaded the rhythm guitar tracks and 2 versions of the Rhythm Mix (.M4a and .Mp3) to Box.

@rkl312 please let me know if you need any other type of file to practice/record with.

    GG1 Rhythm Mix.mp3

    Great job Mandy.

I would use BrightandClean and SurfinInStereo. There is just enough delay used on one (or both) that panning one half way to the left and the other half way to the right they have a nice stereo separation, slightly jangly, reminding of The Byrds, and that would leave the centre free for rkl312's vocal to sit unhindered.

    Uh, feel free to hinder.

  13. I'm having a heck of a time adding vocals to the songs I am practicing.  I get my strumming pattern down and then when I try to add the vocal my strumming hand wants to mirror the inflections of the vocal, throwing the whole thing off.  Has anyone else experienced and overcame this?
