  1. @Skip Russell That's a beautiful song and you played and recorded it very well. Thanks for sharing, Wim.
  2. Thanks, @Nutty 1, @pkotof, @Skip Russell, @gotto and @Simira. I appreciate all your nice comments! Wim.
  3. Hey Ron, an early congratulations for finishing session 16! And all the best up there in the dusty area. Wim.
  4. Pleased to meet you, Matt. You made a great composition with a nice flow. Wim.
  5. The song Malaguena is covered in Session 5 of the fingerstyle course which is dedicated to classical guitar. I borrowed the old nylon string guitar of my sister-in-law to give it a try. Malaguena is a Spanish tune and is full of emotion, drama and passion. Thanks Greg - @gotto - for the great challenge theme. Wim.
  6. Greg, this is a great rendition. I like that you recorded the complete song with several instruments and singing. It sounds really good. The song is very catchy. After listening to your recording, it stayed on my mind for the rest of the day 😀. Wim.
  7. That was nice. I never tried mandolin but like to see this monthly challenge expand to include other instruments. I would love to learn the fingerstyle riff of this great song. Wim.
  8. @Randy120, Nice fingerstyle playing, Randy. I love that song. Thanks for sharing, Wim.
  9. @Steve Krenz Steve, could you advise me on how to build and especially maintain a repertoire of songs? I am learning about 2 new songs per month, but soon after recording them, I focus on the next new ones and forget the ones learned previously. So how could I best put the maintenance of repertoire in my weekly practice schedule? Should I have one "repertoire day" per week? Thanks, Wim.
  10. @Strings, @NeilES335, @pkotof, @Simira, Thanks for your very kind words. Learning and playing guitar has become a true passion and learning songs is for me the real goal. It's such a great feeling when after hours and hours of practice, you finally get the feeling to "own" a song. What I have learned as well over the years is to trust the process. I was not good at playing fingerstyle when I started the fingerstyle course back in december last year, and it looked like a huge mountain to climb. But @Steve Krenz Steve's courses are so well made to gradually and steadily grow your skills. I am now confident that if I do the fingerstyle exercises, e.g. the Giuliani drills, for a couple of weeks, it will affect my playing and enable me to finally tackle those difficult moves in some classic Spanish song, that looked daunting in the beginning. This trust in the process helps me each time to overcome my initial frustration when learning something new. So yes, it's about practice, patience and persistence, but these would be useless without a great teacher like Steve with a great method. Wim.
  11. I am learning to keep my thumb going for this fingerstyle blues. Wim.
  12. @gotto That is an inspiring song, Gregg, and you played it well. Thanks for posting, Wim.
  13. Hello Bradley, that sounds great. I did't know this song but it's beautiful. The only recommendation I would make is to record it a bit louder. Thanks for sharing, Wim.
  14. Muy bien, Mandy. Tocas bien la guitarra. No need to apologize, It is very enjoyable and well recorded. Thanks for runnning the challenge! Wim.
  15. Congratulations, @Limatje. I am in session 5 now (classical guitar) and the exercises and songs become gradually more complicated as I move through the course. It's a great course because it contains so many beautiful songs. Playing solo fingerstyle arrangements is very rewarding. Greatings back from Belgium 😀 Wim.
  16. Well played, @Simira. You get a wonderful tone out of your guitar! I love Dolly Parton. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was watching the documentary "Here I am" on Netflix where I learned to story behind the song. She wrote it for Porter Wagoner when they broke up professionally and she went solo. Thanks for sharing.
  17. Kevin, that's a fantastic rendition of a great song. I listened several times with earphones and your harmonies gave me goose bumps. Your guitar playing sounds beautiful and the song is very well recorded. Thanks for sharing. Great job!
  18. Wow Ron, what a magnificent guitar. Enjoy it!
  19. Thanks Mandy, is there a special award for the fastest entry 😀? I had 2 new recordings ready, this one and a fingerstyle blues. I just had to figure out which one I could somehow match to the theme of the month 😎. Wim.
  20. Danny Boy has been performed by many great female artists like Mahalia Jackson, Johan Baez, Judy Garland and Sinead O'Connor, but it is the version of Eva Cassidy, accompanied by acoustic guitar, that is my favorite. The arrangement I learned over the past weeks is from Steve's L&M Fingerstyle course session 4. Thanks for listening, Wim.
