My Traveler Guitar is headless. Each string runs over a small wheel (like a pulley) and the tuning system is incorporated into the back of the body. The tuning is very stable.

@Wim VD1 Nicely done! The F5 fits you well, looking forward to future renditions.
BryanHi Bryan, I would love to hear or see you play some of the F5 tunes as well 🙂

This is my rendition of the old Blues Standard “Trouble In Mind” in an arrangement from D. Hamburger.

@Wim VD1. I like it. Your skills are definitely growing. Your bass lines and rhythm are on an upswing. My only criticism would be of the sensual nature…Ulysses and the siren’s call is still missing. To me, that’s the real deal.
But all that aside, that’s one fine piece!By sensual, I’m thinking heart and soul…
Perhaps Bob Minner’s Solo album epitomizes what I’m trying to convey
Your fingerstyle playing is some of your best efforts!
Thanks for your feedback Bryan,
I used the metronome at half speed again for this one to improve the groove. I will continue to work on bringing in some more soul in my next recordings.
Today I joined David Hamburger's Fingerstyle 5 (membership costs $20,- per month). The lessons there are song-based, but go beyond just learning songs and also focus on embellishment, improvisation and arranging. I expect to learn a lot there.
I gave Bob Minner's Solo album a listen. His music is nice but a bit too sweet for my taste.

For my November recording, I combined 2 Chet Atkins inspired tunes (from ActiveMelody) with lead guitar added in the second half.

For me, the melancholic nature of your song suits the autumn theme perfectly.
Congrats on reaching session 6. It's great that you combine working on the L&M materials with learning the songs you love.
Well done, I enjoyed listening.

@Wim VD1 I like what you've done with this song. I can hear an improved groove and 'thump' in the baseline. If my foot counts, it wanted to move while I played this for my wife. She agrees with my assessment as well. Keep going, the work effort is definitely paying off. Well done! My only criticism would be to elevate your attack to get more volume and showcase your confidence.
Bryan
Hi Bryan,
I have found that my attack also depends on the length of the fingernails of my picking hand. Even though I play with flesh, I need enough nail to support it. The nails are now a little longer and the difference is really audible in the melody.

This one is not really related to the changing weather, so I take the "any other song" option here.
It's another David Hamburger tune from a TrueFire course.
@Plantsman13, following your advice for this recording, I have used the metronome at half speed focusing on the 2 & 4 to maximize groove. Let me know if you notice any difference 🙂

The Summer Challenge has been won by @Eracer_Team-DougH
For the Autumn Challenge, Dough suggested doing something about Changing to Cooler Weather.
He said: "The "jazz" group (like @NeilES335) could do something like Autumn Leaves.. the 'pop' people could do something like California Dream'n (all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey...)etc."
As for the summer challenge, the number of entries allowed per participant is not limited to 1. You may submit as many songs as you like.
We will still draw 1 winner per challenge, who gets to pick the theme for the next challenge. Everyone is free to follow this suggested theme, but you may also submit any song of your own choice.
Looking forward to hearing you play,
Wim.

@Wim VD1 D. Hamburger and Eric Skye have posted You Tube presentations, in the past, focusing on using a metronome focusing on the 2 & 4 to maximize groove. E. Skye's was in a 30 Day Challenge format (very casual and chock full of great ideas each day) and D. Hamburger was in a Fretboard Confidential presentation. Both sources are free.
Bryan
Bryan,
I retrieved both video's. Here are the links for all who are interested:

Just tried to play "Right or Ronk" focusing on the 2&4 using the metronome at half speed. Not easy to start, but it works once I'm locked in.
I'll practice some more days and record it again.
Thanks for this great info. I definitely learned something today 🙂

@Wim VD1 Great job. Very clean and well played. Don't take this wrong, but I would love to hear you inject some of 'your soul' into it to develop a groove with dynamics, not just a lot of well played notes.
@Plantsman13, thanks. It is this kind of feedback that pushes me to improve.
Maybe I should not record this kind of solo arrangements to a click/metronome any longer. I have the feeling that this takes away some of the natural groove.

This is my last recording for this summer challenge.
It's another David Hamburger tune who dedicated it to Dave Van Ronk.

Here's my latest Jazz Studio collaboration; "That's All". This time featuring two fine Canadian jazz guitarists, JP Cousineau (Montreal Quebec), Dan Kozar (Windsor, Ontario) and myself. What a treat to play with these gentlemen. We hope you enjoy listening!
That's another nice sounding collaboration, Neil. Are the 3 parts recorded simultaneously?
I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

I am still used to the monthly cycle of learning and recording a song. So this is some more playing on the porch of another dead thumb solo arrangement (composed by D. Hamburger).

Worked on Cold cold heart by Hank Williams from the Song Hits session 5 this month. Still working at the strumming accuracy but so far so fun.
@Nairon, I enjoyed listening to your rendition of this classic Hank Williams song. You are progressing well in your learning!

Wim, really nice recording. I enjoyed it a lot. David has some very good blues courses on TrueFire. And I don't know if you are on his mail list or not. If you are, you know his writing is right up there with his blues teaching, always fun and entertaining.
Yes, Ron, I am on his mailing list. He teaches the style of rootsy blues I want to be able to play. I am working my way through his TrueFire courses, which will keep me busy for many months.

Rosedale Blues is a slow steady thumb blues in E from David Hamburger's Fingerstyle Blues Factory course on TrueFire.

Dear guitar friends,
I'd like to try out a new format for our recording challenge. So far it has been monthly, but lately we have usually had only a few submissions per month.
Therefore, I would like to change the interval to quarterly. So from now on there will be a summer (July-September), fall (October-December), winter (January-March) and spring (April-June) recording challenge.
The number of entries allowed per participant is no longer limited to 1. You may submit as many songs as you like.
We will still draw 1 winner per challenge, who gets to pick the theme for the next challenge. Everyone is free to follow this suggested theme, but you may also submit any song of your own choice.
For this summer, we will start with the theme "Blues...or any other song you like".
Looking forward to hearing you play,
Wim.

Congrats, @matonanjin.
I just bought a full Mahogany parlor guitar and for blues fingerpicking I like it more than my Spruce - Rosewood guitar.

Thanks, @NeilES335 and @Strings. It was also one of the first tunes I tried to learn some decades ago, probably after learning Smoke On The Water 😃

@Wlm Van Damme Great job, the mandolin at end was a nice touch. My only suggestion would be a little more damping on the base line to separate the melody...but again, that's everyone's own taste. Enjoyed listening.
The guitar sounds nice too. 😎
Bryan
Thanks for the useful feedback, Bryan.
Yes, I will experiment a bit more with the damping and make sure I also mute the D string better.

In pre-covid times, I travelled a lot for work. Because of the headless design, this guitar fitted in my suitcase and I hardly made a business trip without it.
